Obama: Al Qaeda Behind Xmas Attack

From his secretaries at the Associated Press:

Obama cites apparent al-Qaida link in bomb plot

HONOLULU – An al-Qaida affiliate in Yemen apparently ordered the Christmas Day plot against a U.S. airliner, training and arming the 23-year-old Nigerian man accused in the failed bombing, President Barack Obama said Saturday…

In his most direct public language to date, Obama described the path through Yemen of Abdulmutallab. He also emphasized that the United States would continue its partnerships with friendly countries — citing Yemen, in particular — to fight terrorists and extremist groups…

"We know that he traveled to Yemen, a country grappling with crushing poverty and deadly insurgencies. It appears that he joined an affiliate of al-Qaida, and that this group — al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula — trained him, equipped him with those explosives and directed him to attack that plane headed for America," the president said in his weekly radio and Internet address. It was released by the White House during Obama’s vacation in Hawaii.

Officials have said Abdulmutallab’s father warned the U.S. Embassy in Nigeria that his son had drifted into extremism in the al-Qaida hotbed of Yemen. Abdulmutallab’s threat was only partially digested by the U.S. security apparatus and not linked with a visa history showing the young man could fly to the United States.

Obama has ordered a thorough look at the shortcomings that permitted the plot, which failed not because of U.S. actions but because the would-be attacker was unable to ignite an explosive device. He has summoned homeland security officials to meet with him in the White House Situation Room on Tuesday.

Only a week late. And several billion dollars short.

But what’s the rush?

After all, not many people fly around Christmas and New Years.

    On the one hand :

“That’s why I refocused this fight, bringing to a responsible end the war in Iraq, which has nothing to do with the 9-11 attacks, and dramatically increasing our resources in the region where al Qaeda is actually based, in Afghanistan and Pakistan . . . .”

And on the other hand :

“Instead of succumbing to partisanship and division, let’s summon the unity that this moment demands. Let’s work together with a seriousness of purpose . . . .”

In George Orwell’s novel “1984” this is how Winston Smith describes doublethink :

“To know and not to know, to be conscious of complete truthfulness while telling carefully constructed lies, to hold simultaneously two opinions which cancelled out, knowing them to be contradictory and believing in both of them, to use logic against logic, to repudiate morality while laying claim to it, . . . to forget whatever it was necessary to forget, then to draw it back into memory again at the moment when it was needed, and then promptly to forget it again . . . .”

Pro – you’re not following the game plan. Who’s on first. What’s on second, Idunno’s on third. I forget, we gotta a short stop?

Oh, was the big O on TV again? Hadn’t noticed. There was a screeching sound though coming from the approximate location of the television. Maybe that’s what it was.

What happened to the isolated incident routine? Just one poor misguided soul acting out repressed feelings?
Say it isn’t so. Kind of explains why this administration has had such an effect on the arms and ammunition industry here in the states. Talk about your personal investments. Loaded brass will be the hottest trading commodity for the next three to eight years among wise investors.

    • Petronius says:

Without doubt ammo and reloading products is the strongest sector of the economy right now.

Petronius, It’ not bad for a free republic either.

I hope this didn’t upset his vacation.
It must be a beach having to drop your golf game
    to take care of business.
Wonder if this will make the high light reels?

Obama would not allow it. News said he took off for the gym, then golf. Had a huge staff around him (and of course his personal film crew and back presidential back props in case they were needed), then later he and wife in formal attire met with Marines for half-hour, and all smiles and joking. I don’t think he’s funny at all.

Maybe Obama will finally solve who killed Nicole Simpson & Ron Goldman. What a brilliant mind. We’re in good hands.

  9. AcornsRNuts says:

This would be hilarious if it were not so frightening. In 1984, the party members could shut off their viewscreens, while the proles and party employees could not. I recommend you exercise that freedom now while you still can. This vapid moron has nothing to say that I need to hear.

Oh, Obama was hiding his sun-burn for as along as he could.
