Obama Backpedals On GZ Mosque Support

From a desperately spinning Washington Post:

Obama: Backing Muslims’ right to build NYC mosque is not an endorsement

By Karen Tumulty and Michael D. Shear

One day after President Obama defended the freedom of Muslims to build an Islamic complex near New York’s Ground Zero, he offered a less forceful version of that position on Saturday: Yes, Muslims have that right, Obama said — but that doesn’t mean he believes it is the right thing for them to do.

Speaking to reporters during a family vacation visit to Panama City, Fla., Obama reiterated the stand he took Friday night at a White House dinner observing the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. "In this country we treat everybody equally and in accordance with the law, regardless of race, regardless of religion," Obama said.

But he went on to explain that he was not endorsing the construction of the Islamic center. "I was not commenting and I will not comment on the wisdom of making the decision to put a mosque there," he said. "I was commenting very specifically on the right people have that dates back to our founding."

You see, if Mr. Obama had not reminded us, we would have never remembered that our country believes in the freedom of religion.

Obama’s speech Friday brought down an avalanche of criticism from the right — as the White House surely expected it would.

"The decision to build this mosque so close to Ground Zero is deeply troubling, as is the president’s decision to endorse it," said House Minority Leader John A. Boehner (R-Ohio). "This is not an issue of law, whether religious freedom or local zoning. This is a basic issue of respect for a tragic moment in our history."

Former Alaska governor Sarah Palin mocked Obama from her Twitter feed Saturday, saying: "We all know that they have the right to do it, but should they? This is not above your pay grade." She also compared building the facility to building a Serbian church on the Srebrenica killing fields.

Do note how Mr. Obama’s latest remarks have incorporated Mr. Boehner’s and Ms. Palin’s criticism.

But Obama’s remarks also unsettled many of his fellow Democrats, who would have preferred that he not embroil himself, and them, in a controversy that the White House had previously deemed to be a local matter…

Their concern is not that Obama’s comments will feed the myths about his citizenship, his religion and his allegiances that have taken root in the far reaches of the right; those voters are cemented in place against the Democrats already.

Well, even if we accept that he is an American born citizen (which we do), what do we know about Mr. Obama’s religion or his allegiances?

The only church he has ever regularly attended was Reverend Wright’s. And his every act since becoming President has shown little or no allegiance to the United States.

Rather, they fear that taking a stand on the issue of building a mosque so close to the spot where thousands of Americans lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001, could further alienate swing voters. A CNN poll this month found that 68 percent of those surveyed oppose the idea; among independents, 70 percent were against it.

Hence, today’s retraction. Obviously, the White House thought they could slip Mr. Obama’s remarks into this iftar dinner remarks and nobody would notice. But when they did, they had this walk back ready to go.

White House officials said the president’s comments Saturday were not at odds with what he had said the night before — and they insisted they should not be seen as Obama backing down because of political pressure. He was merely clarifying his position, they said

Which is why these White House official prefer to remain anonymous. Even they are ashamed at having to shovel such obvious bovine excrement.

White House aides said the timing of Obama’s decision to weigh in on the debate was driven by his desire to wait for local zoning officials to finish their deliberations.

Huh? We suspect it has more to do with the revelation that Con Edison owns half of the building in question. And that Mr. Obama wanted to give them a clear signal that he wanted them to cooperate — or face stiffer carbon emission taxes.

Obama, who is a constitutional law professor by training, had been eager to voice his opinion on the broader principle at issue, aides said, but felt restrained by the idea that local officials should not feel pressure from the White House.

As we have often noted, Mr. Obama was only a lecturer. He was never a “professor.” And while he did pretend to teach Constitutional law, in reality, all he taught was ‘race and gender grievance law’ – and of course, Saul Alinsky.

But we can’t expect the Washington Post to be aware of such bothersome details.

The president also worried that the issue could prove to be a distraction for a White House already struggling to keep to its message about the economic recovery, aides said

You would think the White House would welcome any “distraction” that would keep them from having to talk about “the economic recovery.”

In any case, we should probably just let him eat his waffle.

Time and again. It’s not what he says, it’s what he does. More often than not his actions are opposite his words. Wait for all the behind the curtain help to surface in trying to get this mosque built near ground zero from Barry.

In the military we used to call it “arm around your shoulder/knife in your side”. One can easily see how well he’s adapted by chicago politics and how to strrongarm any situation and influence.

He’s a pig. But what is always the source of pleasure for me, as it has been with all people I’ve ever seen of his type, he broadcasts his real intentions, cannot hide who he really is and yet thinks no one will notice. Eventually even the most ardent admirers of the boy will have to change their position one way or another. The drooling lackeys will find themselves with zero viewership soon enough.

And for those drooling lackeys, I will tell them what a teacher once said to me, “If you cannot recognize a lie when it is told, you are likely to be telling them yourself”.

He!!, let’s invite the Japanese to build a monument to the spirit of the Banzai warrior right on the wreck of the USS Arizona. Any other places of historical importance to the freedom of this country should be discarded as well – Liberty Bell, don’t need it anymore, the One will keep us free. The Constitution and Bill of Rights – burn them, they might put weird ideas into citizens heads.

At the rate we’re going, we’ll need all of the mosques we can build – after we have all be converted to Islamofashisim.

  4. wardmama4 says:

I do not have time – a bad start to the day which is just getting increasingly worse – so here is what I wrote earlier on this very subject:

Now, that’s not to say that religion is without controversy. Recently, attention has been focused on the construction of mosques in certain communities — particularly New York. Now, we must all recognize and respect the sensitivities surrounding the development of Lower Manhattan. The 9/11 attacks were a deeply traumatic event for our country. And the pain and the experience of suffering by those who lost loved ones is just unimaginable. So I understand the emotions that this issue engenders. And Ground Zero is, indeed, hallowed ground.

But let me be clear. As a citizen, and as President, I believe that Muslims have the same right to practice their religion as everyone else in this country. And that includes the right to build a place of worship and a community center on private property in Lower Manhattan, in accordance with local laws and ordinances. This is America. And our commitment to religious freedom must be unshakeable. The principle that people of all faiths are welcome in this country and that they will not be treated differently by their government is essential to who we are.

Ok – President Obama – Explain to me exactly how these words are NOT ““I was not commenting and I will not comment on the wisdom of making the decision to put a mosque there” ? At all. Ever. In truth, in reality, You were endorsing a mosque at Ground Zero to muslims and like a good muslim turning around an lying to all American citizens.

GOD HELP AMERICA and help We The People get rid of this muslim who lied and cheated his way into our White House.

Funny, isn’t it…when conservatives expose leftists for who they really are, they claim to be victims of a scurvy attack!! When they accidentally expose THEMSELVES, they claim to be MISUNDERSTOOD!! It appears that leftists are only happy when they are able to lie shrewdly enough to get away with it.

    • fallingpianos says:

Leftists are never happy. And they can’t lie shrewdly. The only reason why they’re able to get away with anything is due to the fact that the propaganda arm of the Democratic-Communist party (formerly known as “the media”) is constantly covering for them.

Unless they happen to be a leftist that is either no longer useful to The Party, or in danger of exposing them. Then it’s under the bus they go.

I am looking forward to seeing more of Boehner when he becomes Speaker of the House.

Obama is practicing muslim religion they do not believe in equal rights.
Obama is worshiping & showing biases towards a religion that does not believe in religious freedom.
Obama is bias towards a muslim religion that will kill rather than allow freedom of the press or speech.
Obama has spent more time & support for his muslim religion that does not believe in civil rights or the U.S. constitution.
Obama favors & is biased towards the most inhumane, cruel, mutilating, sexist, terrorist religion on the planet of the earth.
Obama wrote his 2006 book lace throughout it’s chapters laced with anti-Christian beliefs, the problems with Christianity when it comes to politics, race, humanity. He disses all white churches that they do not treat the whole person like the “black” churches do. Everywhere in the book he is critical of the Christian religion. When has he every said what is wrong with the muslim religion.
And what do we see with our own eyes? He still prefers gathering & praying with muslims, just as he did his entire life. He comes back from Indonesia, and became a muslim in high school, defending it to his friends, and keeping it secret because of their ridicule towards muslim because it was an intolerant, superstitious, overly strict religion that denies every freedom in the U.S. that was sacrificed and fought for.

  9. Natural Born Citizen says:

The GZM is bad enough but why do our CIA, FBI, Military, and State dept have “moderate” Muslims as advisors who are actually terrorist sympathizers? Why are we paying this Imam to represent us in the Middle East? This administration will not even admit we are in a war of terror yet surrounds itself with Muslim advisors who secretly support the Muslim Brotherhoods agenda of subjugating Western Civilization to Sharia law.

    • Liberals Demise says:

Because the “Puppet Masters” (that swarm around dingleBarrys’ dingleberries) can not have another picture of the their houseboy bowing before Kings and other such trash.
That would give the impression that ‘We the People’ aren’t really seeing what we are seeing.
      Of course………he stumbled!

  10. canary says:

White House deputy press secretary Bill Burton said…

“It is not his role as president to pass judgment on every local project,” Burton said in an e-mailed statement. “But it is his responsibility to stand up for the constitutional principle of religious freedom and equal treatment for all Americans.”

Obama is deeply involved in local voting, and stalling local security for the borders as in filing suit against
    Arizona denying them their freedom.

His responsibility then would be to speak out to muslims on how uncivil & unconstitutional the muslim religion is as it is a national & world project, that Obama is prioritizing our tax-paying money.
Obama has spent a fortune in visiting muslims & telling them how great they are. Birds of a feather flock together.

  11. beautyofreason says:

Let’s see, in the past 48 hours he has gone from implying:

    1. I support the mosque

    2. people who don’t like the 9/11 mosque hate the first amendment

    3. naysayers are no different from people who restricted synagogues and churches in the past (he means Americans, not the Saudis).

    1. He neither supports nor does not support the mosque.

    2. No comment.

Oh, did someone finally notice the 70% opposition? Can’t go both ways, Barry. Reminds me of the 9/11 imam who says he neither supports nor condemns Hamas. Yeah right!

“I was not commenting and I will not comment on the wisdom of making the decision to put a mosque there,”

Notice his phrase “the wisdom” before he mentions the mosque. Subtle language placement adds a positive connotation to his description.

Break down Obama’s personal speeches (not the ones written by another person) and you will see glimpses into his attitude and behavior. Remove the platitudes and get to the grit of the matter. Obama may think he can use words to spin circles around the electorate but Americans are catching on.

A guy who won’t stick up for Americans or the people who died at ground zero is not a guy we want as president come election way.

  12. BobonStatenIsland says:

I guess some weekend polling came out and he had to quickly appear to be back-peddling. As I stated earlier, this is just fodder for the Republicans as November approaches. Every Democrat needs to be asked his view on this subject in a very public forum. This will sink them (along with the economy, taxes, healthcare, Gitmo [remember Gitmo?], Iran Nukes, North Korea, Homosexual Marriage, illegal alians…).

I can picture it now. Greg Gutfeld’s gay bar on one side, and this pork plant on the other…Think of all the “unclean” pork products soiling the sidewalk in front of the mosque.

If only it would be true….dreaming…..

  19. artboyusa says:

It’s ABU ‘N’ TARIQ, the angry Muslim Brothers, fussing and bickering their way through another adventure with … “MANHATTEN MELODRAMA!” (a tip of the Artboy beret to anyone who gets that reference)

“Abu! Abu! Quick! Get out here!” cried Tariq, hammering furiously on the bathroom door.

“Don’t tell me what to do, importuning oaf! I’m busy”.

    “But this is important!”

    “So is what I’m doing”.

“And what exactly are you doing in there, anyway? You’ve been ages”.

“I’m, uh, certainly not masturbating during the holy month of Ramadan – that’s what I’m not, ah, doing. No way. That stuff’s strictly haram so I’m definitely, um, not doing it”.

“Praise Allah! Such self restraint! Truly the One Faith burns within your heart like a radiant flame! And try not to leave a big mess this time, okay?”

“Are there any flames which are not radiant, o fool? Now leave me in peace so that I may continue, er, with my, um, devotions…”

“But brother, this is important! President Obama is on the television!”

“So? He is never OFF the television. What is so urgent that you must intrude upon my, um, time of personal reflection?”

“Because he’s talking about our Ground Zero provocation, I mean our holy mosque and community center, that’s why!”

The door flew open and Abu shot out like a rocket – a good rocket I mean, not one of those wobbly homemade ones that Hamas uses. The fevered Islamist raced across the cluttered apartment and skidded to a sudden halt before the flickering television. In his wake, a few sheets of Kleenex fluttered slowly to the floor.

“What does he say? What does he say?” panted Abu. Tariq shushed him with a brotherly elbow in the gut. “Close your kebab chute and listen, self polluting dog!” snapped Tariq.

On the screen President Obama was doing his “leadership” thing; sticking his chin out like he’s Mussolini and narrowing his eyes to gaze thoughtfully into what is really the far wall of the White House Press Room but which on TV looks like “destiny” or “a hopeful future”. The in-way-over-his-depth son of Hawaii (so he says) was using his resonant “They call me Mr President” voice (not his campaign rally “street” voice or his exclusive interview “I’m really a reasonable man” voice and he was bullshitting like nobody’s business.

“As a citizen and as president” intoned Obama “I believe that Muslims have the same right to practice their religion as everyone else in this country”. No one was suggesting that it was going to be taken away from them but Obama carried on anyway.

“That includes the right to build a place of worship and a community center on private property in lower Manhattan, in accordance with local laws and ordinances. This is America, and our commitment to religious freedom must be unshakable” commanded the self-mythologizing two time Grammy Award winner (no, seriously. He really won. Twice).

“Beautiful” grinned Tariq. “Nothing about OUR commitment to religious freedom. Just beautiful”.

“Honeyed words” breathed Abu. “As sweet as the sweetest fruits of the fruit trees of Paradise”.

“They don’t have fruit trees in Paradise, you ill informed infidel you”.

“Who says they don’t? They have sweet fruit don’t they?”

“Yes, of course. But it must come in cans or something, otherwise someone would have to pick it off the trees, would they not? And that is work, is it not? And in Paradise, no work is ever done by the Faithful”.

“Not much work is done on Earth by the Faithful either”.

“Oh? And is driving a cab not work? The point is that there are no fruit trees in Paradise because we don’t pick fruit in Paradise, so who picks it if not us?”

“Can’t we just hire some of those Filipina slave women we use to clean our houses and do our laundry? They can pick the fruit”.

“But that means letting pork eating, dog owning, Jesus worshipping infidels into our Paradise, you soft brained imbecile. Yuck! How do you square that with Islam’s tradition of tolerance and understanding?”

“What tradition of tolerance and understanding?”

“The tradition of tolerance where we tolerantly push and push and push until we get what we want and then we tolerantly keep pushing some more and the infidels keep tolerantly giving in to us until eventually the point is reached where they are politically and culturally subsumed and they finally understand that from now on we are going t stop tolerating them, that tradition”.

    “Oh, you mean Plan A”.

“Truly! Its some plan, that Plan A. It’s working great in Europe and its working here too…”

“Time and again” President Obama boomed “the American people have demonstrated that we can work through these issues and stay true to our core values and emerge stronger for it” which is a fatuous platitude with no basis in history whatsoever –as all the exiled Cherokees, Jim Crowed blacks, imprisoned Nisei and all the dachsunds kicked to death during WWI could have told him – but hey, he’s a former community activist not some guy off the History Channel, for crying out loud, so he kept on blabbing.

“So it must be and will be today” Obama concluded, like he was reading from the Bible or something and Abu and Tariq fell about laughing and nudging each other.

Ironic that Obama’s downfall is his ignoring his hero, Abe Lincoln’s greatest caution: “You can please some of the people some of the time all of the people some of the time some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time?”

The man just doesn’t do unpopular well. Never will.

  22. proreason says:

At last, we have a metric to measure when Republicans might finally come to grips with the danger that our country is in.

When they describe Obamy’s proclamations with the word that really describes him.

    Not a flip-flopper.
    Not post-American.
    Not incoherant.
    Not obtuse.
    Not nuanced.
    Not wrong.
    Not misguided.
    Not liberal.
    Not progressive.

    Stupid. The word is: stupid.
