Obama Begins (Taxpayer Funded) Bus Tour

From Tiger Beat Magazine. – No, wait, it’s actually the Associated Press:

Obama ditching DC to mingle with voters

By ERICA WERNER – Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) — Over the next few days the country will get a glimpse of a President Barack Obama rarely seen in recent months — the one who engages with voters, not lawmakers, and kicks back in Midwestern diners, not just the Oval Office.

The president sets out Monday for a three-day bus tour through Minnesota, Iowa and Illinois that will give him a chance to hear directly from the public in a region that helped launch him to the White House in 2008, and where Republican presidential hopefuls are now battling it out.

As if Mr. Obama will not be surrounded by his usual protective cocoon. In fact, he will only "hear directly" from the hand picked party activists who have been selected to speak.

It comes after the president spent much of the summer holed up in the nation’s capital enmeshed in bitterly partisan negotiations on the debt crisis that cratered his approval ratings and those of Congress amid a faltering economy and high unemployment.

You see, it was the "bitterly partisan negotiations on the debt crisis" that "cratered his approval ratings." Not the faltering economy or high unemployment. Or even the country’s first credit rating downgrade.

The president will get a chance to absorb the public’s anger and try his best to respond as he holds five town hall events in three days. In between he’ll drive long stretches on farmland and rural highways, likely making unscheduled stops here and there at local eateries and other gathering places.

Sure, there will be lots and lots of "unscheduled stops." There will also be unplanned outpourings of hatred for the Tea Party and Republicans, and of course, President Bush.

It begins midmorning Monday when he arrives in Minneapolis before heading by bus about 40 miles south to Cannon Falls, Minn., for his first town hall event.

It’s an official White House tour, not a campaign swing, but it’s also the first bus trip Obama has embarked on since he toured the country seeking the presidency

Of course it isn’t a campaign swing. Then the Obama campaign would have to pay for it. And we don’t want Obama to have to pay for this out of his billion dollar campaign fund. It is much better for the taxpayer to foot the bills.

Besides, Mr. Obama wouldn’t be campaigning with the elections still fifteen months away.

The bus tour itinerary takes Obama through three states he won in 2008 but where he now needs to shore up his standing. In Iowa, Obama returns to a state that handed him a key victory over Democratic rival Hillary Rodham Clinton in 2008 but where Republicans have now been blanketing the state in preparation for its first-in-the-nation caucuses, attacking the president at every turn

But it’s not a campaign tour. (And damn those Republicans for attacking our President like that.)

Obama made a similar outing last year, traveling the Midwest in a two-day, three-state tour in April 2010 that took him to Iowa, Illinois and Missouri. There was no bus, but the president’s motorcade made hours-long drives through rural areas, passing school children waving American flags and seniors sitting on lawn chairs.

In what was clearly a spontaneous outpouring of affection for our ‘dear leader.’

The trip gave the president a chance to engage in some of the grassroots politicking he perfected in 2008 during weeks spent campaigning in the small towns that would help carry him to victory in places like Iowa. Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on his way back to Washington, Obama said the trip reminded him of his early days in politics.

"It was a reminder that sometimes there’s a mismatch between the way politics are portrayed in Washington and how people are feeling," the president said at the time. "I think it’s a less toxic atmosphere."

Mr. Obama’s "early days in politics" were spent helping ACORN stuff the ballot boxes get out the vote for Carol Moseley Braun in Chicago.

What could be more toxic than that?

How about the noxious fumes emenating from every speech he gives? I’m talking about that stuff he spews that Bess Truman spent 30 years tryiing to get Harry to call fertilizer, every time he opens his mouth.

And another thing. Why is his logo on that bus instead of the Presidential Seal. This arrogant bastard holds the heartland in contempt even as he works the rubes for their votes. He really does believe we are that stupid.

You want a name for this dog-and-pony show? How about “The Run-Amok Spending Schmuck Traveling Revue”.

I wonder how many people these buses will have to run over as he tries to deflect criticism for the economic faliure of his great excretment er experiment. Maybe we should call it the “Highway to Hell” tour.

  7. Mithrandir says:

    GET BACK TO WORK!

If the Republicans ever found a descent marketing guy, they would beat him over the head with this slogan.
    ~No more golf trips.
    ~No more vacations.
~No more campaigns disguised as official duties.
~No more money-raising $50,000 a plate dinners on our dime.

Every time this guy pokes his head out of the White House, there should be signs and campaigns screaming, “Nooooo, get your lazy *** back to work!” –Where in the heck do you think you’re going in this economy you created? Another vacation? GET BACK TO WORK!

But Republicans actually having a winning argument? Or re-taking an argument away from the Dems? -HA! That’ll be the day…..

Where to begin…I like most of the Tour Bus Slogans. But am partial to “The Magical Misery Tour” and “Change you can Relieve on.”

BHO is heading my way. He will be making a stop just a few miles from where I now work and live.

Just as an update for those non-regular readers, I’ve been unemployed since just before Our Dear Leader took office. It took a ton of hard work to land a job…any job, but finally found one, in Iowa. I moved myself and young child here and we are trying to make the best of it.

One of the stranger things I discovered on arriving at this job is that over 80% of “the folks” that are employed here by the company I work for are also in the same predicament as I am. Moved to another state because this is the only job available. Most of them are trying to wait this economy out and see if they can transfer closer to home (or get a job near their house once it improves) because they cannot sell their home. So their spouse is staying put. While it means a slight increase living expenses, most of the monies are sent home and people try to get by as cheaply as possible because they can’t afford to spend money on two homes. Sharing apartments is common to reduce expenses. It’s just one sad story after the other. While we are all happy to be finally employed. We would have preferred to find something that was commutable. The lucky ones can visit their spouses over the weekends. Many others are forced to make visits monthly or less depending on their circumstances.

I would love to be able to take a vacation day and ask the President – where are the jobs? Why has he jeopardized my daughters future? When does the buck stop with him? and a million other more pointed questions that he would never really answer – he instead will have long term fellow socialists to lob him softball questions to him to answer.

Like Pro, “my capacity for outrage hasn’t diminished” either. I hold him and his cronies responsible for the sad state this economy is in. God help us all.

      heykev,

great news on the new job and congrats on your courage to move your family. Aren’t you a new pharmacist? If so, you have a good profession to see you through hard times or good.

      Cheers.

ps: “Rolling Blunder” tickled by sides

Thanks John, I truly respect you and all the other people who post here regularly. I try to think carefully and hope to actually add something to the astute, funny and wise commentary that I read here. heykev, you speak for many Americans, I pray the day will come that things will get better for you and all honest hard working people in this country and the sooner we get the thieves out of Washington the sooner it could happen, in the mean time our hearts are with you.
