Obama Plans To Spoil Republican Convention

From The Hill:

Team Obama breaks precedent to try to spoil Romney’s convention

By Mike Lillis | Thurs August 23, 2012

Bucking protocol, President Obama and the Democrats are planning a full-scale assault on Republicans next week during their convention.

Presidential candidates have traditionally kept a low profile during their opponent’s nominating celebration, but Democrats are throwing those rules out the window in an attempt to spoil Mitt Romney’s coronation as the GOP nominee.

President Obama, Vice President Biden and leading congressional Democrats have all scheduled high-profile events next week to counter-program the Republican gathering in Tampa.

Even first lady Michelle Obama is in on the act, scheduling an appearance on the “David Letterman Show” smack in the middle of Romney’s nominating bash.

Political historians say the high stakes of this year’s elections — combined with the rise of today’s 24/7 media culture — has forced leaders on both sides of the aisle to get more aggressive.

"Traditionally, there was a kind of courtesy extended to the party having the convention — the [other] party would basically stay out of the public eye," said Ross Baker, political scientist at Rutgers University. But that "gentleman’s agreement," has been largely abandoned as "a consequence of the polarization of American politics." He characterized the old tradition as a "quaint code of etiquette" destined to become a "remnant of the 20th century."

You see? Obama doesn’t want to resort to low tactics like this. But the media culture has forced him into it.

Still, you have to wonder why sending Code Pink (dressed as vaginas) and the Occupy anarchists and union thugs isn’t enough to make their point?

Democrats have made clear that they don’t intend to fade into the background as the GOP’s message machine cranks away in Tampa…

The most aggressive attack was left for Biden, who is heading behind enemy lines for campaign events in Tampa on Monday and Tuesday. Leading congressional Democrats, including Reps. James Clyburn (S.C.) and Debbie Wasserman Schultz (Fla.), will be joining the vice president to help crash the party…

it’s good to see that the Democrats are putting their best foot forward and sending in their ‘A Team.’

Still, you have to wonder why sending in Code Pink (dressed as vaginas) and the Occupy anarchists and union goons wouldn’t be enough to make their point.

The purpose of the Democratic blitz is clear: With Romney and the Republicans scrambling to defend Romney’s tax history and undo the damage from Rep. Todd Akin’s (R-Mo.) recent comments on rape and abortion, Obama and the Democrats don’t want to give the GOP a week-long opening to shift the discussion back to jobs and the economy — Obama’s chief vulnerability heading into November’s elections…

Everything they do is okay, since their intentions are so noble.

The Republicans’ convention messaging will be thrown off, Baker said, "If Joe Biden goes to Tampa and says, ‘Where’s Todd Akin?’" …

This is the elevated political discourse that Obama promised us.

Looking forward to the attendance & Nielson comparo’s Mr. Axelrod!

The Hill untruthful on this part ” has forced leaders on both sides of the aisle to get more aggressive’

No backing up the statement, which of course would be pages showing the aggression from Obama and supporters.

David Letterman makes me want to puke even without celebrity Michelle. Hopefully, they’ll talk about what reality show or cooking show she will do if Obama loses.

These people are power hungry and will do ANYTHING to get elected, which makes them vulnerable. If a majority of the American people realize this and vote, they’ll be done for. No thinking person trusts a desperate and amoral politician.

This is great. Republican National Convention, with Joe “Plugs” Biden, Debbie “Blabbermouth” Schultz, and James “The Race Baiter” Clyburn. Dinner and a show!

Just stand up and say “These people represent the other side. Do you want 4 more years of them?” Romney landslide.

If the “A Team” shows up, I can’t think of anything they can say or do that won’t hurt Obama.

The first time Joe opens his mouth, he’ll say something outrageously stupid. You can count on Joe.

The Blabbermouth will read her talking points ad nauseum… word for word… over and over again… no matter how she in engaged… it’s her only defense. Like a pillbug rolling up into a ball. “Hi Debbie”. “Romney is shredding medicare”. Debbie how’s your week going?” “Romney is shredding medicare”. After a few seconds, she begins to sound like Charlie Brown’s mother. Plus, I think the mayonnaise hair treatments are continuing to progressively (HA) damage her brain.

Clyburn is a joke without ever opening his mouth. And when he does start muttering incomprehensively, the only words you’ll recognize will be RACIST and WHITEY. We couldn’t ask for a more demonstrably insane group to vividly and accurately represent the truth of the Democrap party.

Sounds like a great opportunity for an army of fans with cams to take pictures, get video clips and infamous quotes—-especially from “Plugs” Biden.

In the 2008 campaign Obama could have worked this somewhat, with his teleprompter and a controlled surrounding with a fully complicit media. But Biden? He only got this far because the media chose to ignore him.

The only bad I can see from this is if they have a plant in the crowd to pull something racist/biased/whatever–I really wouldn’t put it past them. Otherwise, hey why turn down free advertising and campaign material?

    • Rusty Shackleford says:

As has been the case with all “plants” the socialists place in the midst, they get found out. Then the media goes silent. Once the perp is jailed and then examined, and found to belong to one of the myriad of socialist organizations, all communique’s go unanswered.

I have to borrow from one poster’s words at another blog: “Truth has no purchase in the liberal mind”.

I also think that over the last four years, their lies have been getting bigger and louder and they have underestimated the intelligence of the American people. Rush said yesterday that he thinks that the Obama camp is now specifically targeting the “stupid vote” because it’s so obvious. Biden out there saying stupid sh**, the really dumb ads, the even dumber lies (“I’ve created 4.5 million jobs” and “We tried it their way and we tried it our way and it worked!).

This is electioneering on a whole new scale of bad. Up here you have the Romney campaign, talking about the valid issues of the moment; The economy and jobs while down here you have the sophomores, bleating about Romney’s tax returns, something stupid that Akin said, the right’s “war on women” and so forth. If one considers their campaign of intentional obfuscation in 2008 to have been brilliant, this one for 2012 is of the same magnitude in buffoonery.

I didn’t consider their campaign brilliant, just to be clear. I considered it an attempted coup and that the media had wet themselves over the new shiny. They continue to do so but look more foolish every day and the people are seeing these supposedly intelligent people step in it almost by the hour now. Maddow, Schulz, the usual twits on the networks, etc. are showing that they don’t know anything at all except how to be party officers and try to hang with the “cool kids” once again. But I always used to ask myself when I was in high school, “So…if I actually was one of the cool kids….how would I feel to be actually like them?”. And then go throw up.

To oh-so-many, perception is reality. The truly “cool” are the ones like Sherlock Holmes who, by definition is a geek, but understands the depths as well as the shallowness of humanity. He has no time for frivolities, no desire to swap platitudes, though is capable of it in order to maintain civility. Nope. He pursues his own interests independently and thinks independently. Granted, he is fictional. But I like to think of myself as being able to at least imitate some of his defiant independence while being able to get along in the world.

I’m glad I don’t have to attend ridiculous parties with company people or try to climb the social ladder by having an ever more expensive car or send my kids to a certain school, etc. That type of thing is anathema to decency to me. It also broadcasts weakness.

A-team? Hmmmm. A-team. Let me think a moment here. What could that ‘A’ possibly stand for?

    Abomination? Abortion? Anonymous? Anti-American?

    Wait! I’ve got it……………..A$$hole. ;-)
