Obama Says: Bush Is The Socialist, Not Me

From his number ‘won’ fans at the New York Times:

The President Is on the Line to Follow Up on Socialism

WASHINGTON — Less than 90 minutes after Air Force One landed, the telephone rang. President Obama was on the line, wanting to add one more point to a response he gave during an interview with The New York Times.

On a flight from Ohio to Washington on Friday, Mr. Obama was asked whether his domestic policies suggested that he was a socialist, as some conservatives have implied.

“The answer would be no,” he said, laughing for a moment before defending his administration for “making some very tough choices” on the budget.

As the interview progressed, Mr. Obama never returned to the question. When he called, he said he had been thinking about it as he boarded the helicopter taking him back to the White House.

“It was hard for me to believe that you were entirely serious about that socialist question,” Mr. Obama said from the Oval Office.

He then dismissed the criticism, saying the large-scale government intervention in the markets and the expansion of social welfare programs had begun under his Republican predecessor, George W. Bush.

“It wasn’t under me that we started buying a bunch of shares of banks,” Mr. Obama said. “And it wasn’t on my watch that we passed a massive new entitlement, the prescription drug plan, without a source of funding.”

He added, “We’ve actually been operating in a way that has been entirely consistent with free-market principles, and some of the same folks who are throwing the word socialist around can’t say the same.” …

Mr. Obama pushed back against that characterization in the phone call and, in the process, issued one of the sharpest critiques that he has directed toward the Bush administration.

“By the time we got here, there already had been an enormous infusion of taxpayer money into the financial system,” he said, adding, “The fact that we’ve had to take these extraordinary measures and intervene is not an indication of my ideological preference, but an indication of the degree to which lax regulation and extravagant risk taking has precipitated a crisis.”

With that, the call from the president ended.

Mr. Obama seems to be becoming increasing bizarre.

And, of course, he always was a liar.

For once, The Moron is right. He’s not a Socialist.

Socialism is just the current tool his handlers are using to consolidate power and destroy Capitalism….which is the biggest threat to the power grab.

They could care friggin less what the tool is. If they thought Zoroastrism would work, they would use that.

It’s all about creating a 2-class society. A few thousand of them, living like emporers. And the rest of us living like serfs in The Moron’s old “neighborhoods” in Chicago.

Severe disconnect with this dude. Scary thing though is that he believes his own crap!

He really can’t/doesn’t think well on his feet .. “After an interview with the New York Times on board Air Force One, President Barack Obama was apparently unhappy with his answer to a question about whether he was a socialist. So he telephoned the reporters to have another go.”
“Just one thing I was thinking about as I was getting on the ‘copter. It was hard for me to believe that you were entirely serious about that socialist question.”

How many takes and re-takes does this guy need??? Hard to believe you were serious??? Do they make portable teleprompters???

Obviously he wasn’t wearing his magical earpiece that provides him with all of the “correct” answers.

Here’s my interpretation of his responses:

    Q. The first six weeks have given people a glimpse of your spending priorities. Are you a socialist as some people have suggested?

    A. Sidestep, just talk about the budget, maybe he’ll lose interest.

    Q. Is there anything wrong with saying yes?

    A. What is it with this guy? Just keep talking about the budget. Yeah, deflect. Talk about how those rich people didn’t complain about high taxes back when Reagan was in office, just hope he doesn’t point out the economy was doing well back then. I kept my promises, yeah, just keep focusing on that.

    Q. So to people who suggested that you are more liberal than you suggested on the campaign, you say, what?

    A. What the? Give it up already! Yeah, yeah, they say I’m “liberal,” well I am going to end the war in Iraq….

    Q. In terms of spending.

    A. Shoot! This one’s too smart. Back to campaign promises, how well we’re making life for the poor people……WHERE’S MY TELEPROMPTER!…..keep going back to all the good I’m doing, yeah…..

    Q. Is there one word name for your philosophy? If you’re not a socialist, are you a liberal? Are you progressive? One word?

    A. Just fuggedaboutit!

Obama thinks about, checks with his advisors/teleprompter, and decide he should have used the old ‘accuse others of what you do’ shtick.

You know Bush, he was a Socialist…

  8. proreason says:

Am Thinker must-read article compares The Moron’s shenanigans to Britain in 1945.

“The agenda of the American Left bears an uncomfortable similarity to that of the Fabian Society intellectuals that reshaped British society. If this agenda is successfully implemented by Barack Obama, the election of 2008 in the United States will be a watershed event, much like the British election of 1945.

But this analogy is not an optimistic one. If one wants to know what the United States will look like fifty years after Obama, one need only look at the fall of Britain from its imperial height in 1945 to the Britain of today — a second-rate, secularized “nanny state” whose disarmed citizens are monitored by thousands of police cameras and whose police actively prosecute “hate crimes” and offenses against “multiculturalism.”

Like Britain, the United States will almost certainly remain an important financial center and regional power several decades from now, but the center of global gravity will long since have shifted to the Chinese as the United States abandons it global dominance and becomes preoccupied with a liberal, postmodern, domestic agenda. It does not have to be this way — the United States can still assert itself as global hegemon if it has the will to do so – but the successful implementation of the Obama agenda will assure that it does not.

If Obama achieves the goals articulated in his campaign, his presidency will surely mark the end of “the American Century” just as the election of 1945 signaled the end of Victorian and Edwardian British global dominance.”

    The paralles are striking……….and ominous.

Well we can say that Bush did indeed play the socialist card to our collective great expense…

I mean let’s face it, Bush didn’t dump any of the Great Society programs or the FDR Ponzi scheme…

Bush did push the, “leave no parasitic juvenile deliquent behind” and that other ultra expensive nugget called, Medicare Part B also…

Having said all that George W at least had some idea of how a business ran, how the military worked, and some grasp of basic economics

    • oldswimcoach says:

In fairness on the prescription drug thing, drug therapies that eliminate surgical options are usually (but not always) cheaper than the surgical and follow-up costs.

Not sure this will be the case, but a theoretical case can be made that the perscription dtug benifiet will lower medical costs to medicare – for the record I don’t by it, but the case can be mae.

    • caligirl9 says:

The problem with “No Child Left Behind” was that the kids that most need the attention and assistance have the parents least motivated/qualified to give their children the assistance to succeed in school.

And that doesn’t mean a computer in every home. It means a parent PRESENT in the home with the functional brainpower to help a kid read, do math, etc. And that doesn’t necessarily require an IQ over 100 … but it does require a street drug-free mind.

    • A Mad Pole says:

The government should not have anything to do with education whatsoever, so Bush went against the core of conservative principles when he pushed NCLB through, thus increasing the government reach and power, instead of abolishing the whole DoE altogether.

  10. Media_man says:

GWB expanded Medicare to include prescription drugs but this was a central premise of his 2000 campaign, and to his credit, it was a campaign promise he kept. He also managed to implement it via private insurance plans that managed to keep the costs below original CBO projections, a rarity for government funded medical programs.

GWB’s TARP program was ill conceived but he didn’t have much choice. After the Democrats destroyed th global financial systems via their political meddling in the US home mortgage markets, GWB didn’t have any other alternative.

In any event, Obama can pretty much say whatever he wants but his act is beginning to wear thin. Dick Morris is right in that by Nov 2010 he will be toxic and the Dems will be avoiding him like the plague.

  11. pagar says:

Of course, he doesn’t want to be called a socialist, He’s a hardcore Communist and to them, a socialist is not what they want to be.

  12. CharliePATpk says:

So am I to assume President Obama can do the same things President Bush did? If so, how can he be critical of Mr. Bush?

Is this the sort of *change* Democrats have waited for all these years?

    • Liberals Demise says:

What “Change” might you be talking about from the democraps?
      Obamanites or Clintonistas?

  13. catie says:

I don’t know where to begin. This guy is an absolute communist with his socialism being a means to that end. I called the White House when W went down that prescription drug coverage nonsense like many others did. The problem was for a lot of people, their retirement covered prescription drugs but after that it went away. That program did not replace what was lost and consequently cost more to the taxpayer than before. My parent’s neighbors did not have a retirement program other than Uncle Sam and spent like drunken sailors (with apologies to Sailors) their entire lives. They also managed to get multiple free samples for years at a time from their doctors.
As for NCLB, there were parts of it that were good but as Caligirl9 so rightly pointed out the parents have to be part of the solution. 90% of the time that I was teaching they were part of the problem because it never was the fault of their precious child but the fault of the teacher, bus driver, lunch lady and janitor. Unfortunately, I worked under a few principals that subscribed to their outcry and let the little kiddie get away with nothing short of murder.

If a Prez & Congress, under one-party rule, want print/spend as much money as they want and destroy everybody’s assets – neither Court or anything else can stop them. If they want to eliminate opposition media – apparently nobody can stop them, if they want to redistribute/confiscate wealth and create new entitlement classes – the same here…
Such “bringing a gun into fist fight” makes all existing Constitutional checks/balances useless. Opposition will never get a chance to win an election because they re-engineering the society…

  24. Rusty Shackleford says:

It does my heart good to note that this place confirms the thoughts I have throughout the week; That I’m not alone and that there are still people left who can see what things really are.

Beyond the “I’m rubber, you’re glue” argument, for lack of a better word, that Ba-lack Who’s-insane O-bla-bla uses, there are obvious mental deficiencies that I can only predict will result in some truly antisocial behavior in the times to come.

From projecting to denial to out-and-out anger. And, hurray for America, watch for the spiteful move that will result in “everyone being punished” when he wishes something into the cornfield. Not that that’s not already happening but I mean something that even Pelosi would recognize as aberrant behavior.

Word on the street from American Thinker is that he is lazy and spends his time partying up late at night…while delegating important tasks. This gives us a twofold problem: One, that he hands off important issues to people not suited to the task, or who think they are and bollocks it up so bad we end up trillions of dollars in debt and Two, that he is not only AFRAID of the job but INCAPABLE of doing the job.

Much maligning of presidents has gone on throughout the decades, if not centuries but most of them were capable of being a chief executive and at least being the focal point of responsibility.

This is the first, and hopefully only, president I’ve seen in my lifetime that leads by proxy, likes to be a salesman ONLY and spends his time playing with his new toys while others are charged with working things out.

I ask you, is this “vision”? Or just playtime for Bonzo?

Obviously, the collective distaste, dismay and complete outrage of having this THING in office is very prevalent here. I am hoping that the feeling grows and that he trips up so badly that he’s ousted. Unfortunately, it’ll probably take getting a very large number of US citizens killed to make that happen.

For, while he’s frittering away the money that isn’t there, very evil people are plotting to do something on our soil. He is unaware of their devious cleverness or perhaps he’s not. For he has already said, if it really comes down to it, he will side with the muslims.

I am, and have been very afraid for this nation and 9/11 was not a wake-up call for me as I had already predicted that that day would come. People thought I was nuts. But, it happened pretty much the way I thought it would.

Yet we, in this great nation, have people who are charged with anticipating just what these nutjobs might do next…and it’s up to this president to listen to them. Yet, he, in his pontifical way, will poo-poo the ideas and truly believe they would never attempt to do such harm again.

“Of all the things I fear the most, ignorance is the worst”

    • proreason says:

“This is the first, and hopefully only, president I’ve seen in my lifetime that leads by proxy, likes to be a salesman ONLY and spends his time playing with his new toys while others are charged with working things out. ”

Years ago, in another time of economic trouble, it fell to me to determine whether a co-worker was competant or just pretending. It wasn’t pleasant, but I did it, and the answer was that he was incompetant. I would characterize the situation like he was a doctor whose specialty was to fix broken limbs. He knew what the job was, could describe the job, but when it came time to fix the limb, he would reset the wrong bone.

So we brought him in for a talk before we let him go, and it fell to me to describe why he wasn’t cutting the mustard.

Well, he was SHOCKED. Really. I remember it clearly. He said “I graduated from xyz academy. I was awarded high honors. I’ve worked here for 2 years. I’m an EXPERT.”

He actually thought he knew what he was doing…..but he was incapable of the simplest tasks in his profession.

When I watch Maxime Waters, I am reminded of that guy. There she is, acting as if she knows what she is doing, but she is as stupid as a cartoon character, yet filled with self-pride.

And I think The Moron is the same way. In his mind, how can he be incompetant? Isn’t he adulated? Doesn’t the press hang on every word? Don’t his minions scatter to do his bidding? Don’t the sychopants praise his every action? Didn’t he promise change? Isn’t he delivering on the promise?

Meanwhile, he is busy as a beaver resetting the country’s broken neck and back, when it’s a finger that is broken.

    • Rusty Shackleford says:

      Pro R,

As you’ve indicated much of the time, this guy has been enabled his whole life. Raised and coddled by people who were guilt-ridden that he was half-black, half-white, half-intelligent, I know not what but he was enabled. Never taught that what he did was wrong. I have seen this form of “parenting” in action and it disturbed me greatly and, being the same age as this *ahem* chief executive, I grew up seeing the foundation for parental permissiveness and thankfully, I was not one of those kids.

      But he is.

Who I want to hear from are the people who were his peers growing up. Classmates who know how he acted and so on. I don’t think that’s necessary really to get a psychological imprint on this guy, but like we say in Texas, “The boy ain’t right”.

In a way, I guess it’s as good a time as any to show what results permissive parenting provides. Bad thing is, it’s in a president who, like you said, thinks he can do no wrong; The king’s new clothes and all that.

Same thing happens to mega-stars. Madonna, Barbara Streisand, Michael Jackson, etc. who become surrounded by yes-people and actually believe that the world is as they see it. I’m sure there’s a clinical name for it and I am not smart enough to recall it but it is a very real condition, I’m sure.

You nailed it when you said he’s incompetent and why. It’s a manifold issue what with him never having to punch a clock, have a real job, be held responsible for anything. I mean…as a “community organzer”, a dubious moniker at best, what, exactly is the penalty for being a bad one? That the “people were clearly disorganized”? How would ya know?

The other side of it is that mainstream, Big Mac eating, backpack toting, Budweiser-drinking America overwhelmingly lacks the wisdom and critical eye to see what is unfolding before theirs. It’s just plain scary. We’ve all heard the expression, “Like watching a train wreck” and yet, here it is, clear as crystal on a sunshiny spring day and only a few people notice?

Truly, as Mark Twain pointed out the opposite of “progress” is “congress” and it’s truly painful to watch, right along with this so-called “elected” president.

I am also truly grateful to work in a place where 99% of us are conservatives and find this cardboard cutout of a president to be a ridiculous fabrication of the real thing. I am also glad that the conservative media hold him to task and point out the hypocrisy, the lies, the out-and-out cheating, not to mention way-out-of-left-field governing this amazingly hip, yet equally amazingly out-of-touch group of people do.

I learned a lot by reading and one of my recent reads was “Unlimited Access” by former FBI agent Aldrich. He pointed out that the Gore’s would shut their phone off at 9PM so as not to be disturbed. This was discovered when Bill-Jeff went on one of his “ditch the Secret Service” escapades to go get laid and they couldn’t reach the vice-president.

That pretty much was the telling passage in the book that said it all about liberal democrats.

They want all the perks and none of the responsibility.

Is this why Obomo’s dream for free borders, and 6 monthes in this country you become a citizen. Does Obomo blame America for his dead beat father’s not spending time. It’s clear in Obomo’s writings, his half-sister’s remarks, that Oboma felt better more comfortable with whites. I think he used his lying, poor me growing up, even telling Americans at campaigns speeches he was raised in the South!!! while the applauds increase. Hawaii is south. I read many of the links in your posts this weekend in the “Obama’s not a socialist” thread and found them interesting, informative and rational.

I just can’t get over that this country elected a man with such a past. Even if you don’t believe any of the (rather compelling) information about him, wouldn’t the mere fact that there are so many stange associations and unknown factors make a rational person leery of the risk presented by such a person?

I know it’s beating a dead horse, but I still just can’t get over it.
