Obama Bypasses Congress, OKs 300K Foreign Workers

From a cheering Daily Beast:

New Immigration Rules Without Congress

By Caitlin Dickson | May 6, 2014

The Department of Homeland Security announced two new proposed rules Tuesday morning aimed at attracting and holding onto highly skilled immigrants. It’s the latest effort by the Obama administration to change immigration policy while Congress continues to stall on passing comprehensive reform legislation.

The rules, presented on a call with reporters by DHS Deputy Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker, will remove obstacles to remaining in the U.S. for certain temporary workers and offer employment visas for some of those workers’ spouses…

And never mind that 40% of the illegal aliens in the US are here on overstayed visas.

Silicon Valley tech companies have been particularly active in pushing for immigration reform. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, half of Silicon Valley’s science, engineering, and technology workers were born outside the U.S., compared to a quarter of people working in such fields throughout the rest of the country.

Last April, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the creation of FWD.us, a lobbying group co-founded by Zuckerberg and funded by other Silicon Valley entrepreneurs aims to advocate the passing of bipartisan immigration reform legislation that better allows for American companies to recruit the world’s most talented people…

Yesterday, Obama paid back Tom Steyer and his other fat cat environmental donors with his fear mongering report on climate change. Today, Obama is paying back Mark Zuckerberg and the rest of his Silicon Valley fat cat donors. And to hell with the unemployment rate. These foreigners will do the coding that Americans refuse to do.

Still, you have to admit, when Obama is bought, he stays bought.

Naturally, the Daily Beast is impressed with Obama’s cynical use of dictatorial powers:

[G]iven Congressional Republicans’ likelihood to kill comprehensive immigration reform at the first sign of any executive action that might be perceived as weakening border security, the proposed changes announced Tuesday seem carefully, and cleverly, calculated.

As long as the unemployed don’t find out.

The San Francisco Chronicle bother to report some of the numbers involved:

White House plan would let H-1B visa holders’ spouses work

By Carolyn Lochhead [sic] | May 6, 2014

Washington — The White House announced a plan Tuesday to allow spouses of H-1B visa holders to work in the United States, a coup for Silicon Valley companies that have been calling for more lenient rules for immigrants who come to the United States to work in technology…

The Senate-passed immigration bill, which has been blocked by the House, would increase H-1B visas for skilled workers from 65,000 a year to at least 115,000, and possibly as many as 300,000…

Don’t worry, the grand total will end up being more than 300,000.

The administration said the rule change was requested in a "We the People" petition. Such petitions are found on a White House website…

Hilarious. Obama is using an online Astro-turfed petition as an excuse to bypass the elected representatives of the people.

The plan immediately drew fire from Republicans. Sen. Jeff Sessions of Alabama, who sits on the Judiciary Committee, accused the administration of acting unilaterally to change immigration law and bring in tens of thousands of potential competitors with Americans for jobs.

"Fifty million working-age Americans aren’t working," Sessions said in a statement, adding that as many as "half of new technology jobs may be going to guest workers. … This will help corporations by further flooding a slack labor market, pulling down wages." …

So how are the Republicans going to stop him?

Steve: “Obama is using an online Astro-turfed petition as an excuse to bypass [the law]….”

Well at least Nerobama learned something from Putin’s tactics in the Ukraine anschluss.

“DHS Deputy Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker, will remove obstacles [i.e., the laws of Congress]….”

Has anyone checked Alejandro’s papers? And why are foreigners always the ones placed in charge of our immigration agencies?

    Just asking….

Oh well. Looks like we’re going to immigrate our way to prosperity. No doubt this will finally be our recovery summer. I can’t wait.

Hillary Clinton’s long ongoing Corrupt Relationship with the DHS Deputy Alejandro Mayorkas still under investigation

FOX News: DHS nominee under investigation for allegedly helping Hillary Clinton’s brother
    July 24, 2013

Authorities are investigating the man President Obama tapped to take over the second highest spot at the Department of Homeland Security for allegedly using his position and power to unfairly obtain U.S. visas for foreign investors in a company run by Hillary Clinton’s brother, FoxNews.com has confirmed.

Alejandro Mayorkas, director of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, was named by Homeland Security’s Inspector General’s Office as a target in an investigation involving the foreign investor program run by USCIS, according to an email sent to lawmakers late Monday.

The investigation was opened in September 2012 following a referral from an FBI counterintelligence analyst. The probe was first reported by The Associated Press.

The investigation into Mayorkas is based on allegations he helped secure U.S. visas for Chinese businessmen after they had been denied by his own agency’s officials. The visas had been sought by Gulf Coast Funds Management, a financing company headed by then-Secretary of State Clinton’s brother Anthony Rodham, according to an aide to GOP Sen. Charles Grassley, who had received internal USCIS emails about the matter from a department whistle-blower.

Mayorkas, a former U.S. attorney in California, previously came under criticism for his involvement in the commutation by President Bill Clinton of the prison sentence of the son of a Democratic Party donor.

Another of Hillary Clinton’s brothers, Hugh Rodham, had been hired by the donor to lobby for the commutation. Mayorkas told lawmakers during his 2009 confirmation hearing that “it was a mistake” to talk to the White House about the request.

The FBI’s Washington field office was told about the investigation in June after it inquired about Mayorkas as part of the White House background investigation for his nomination as deputy DHS secretary.

The FBI in Washington has been concerned about the investor visa program and the projects funded by foreign sources since at least March, according to emails obtained by The AP.

“Let’s just say that we have a significant issue that my higher-ups are really concerned about and this may be addressed way above my pay grade,” an official wrote in one email. The FBI official’s name was redacted in that email.

Anthony Rodham is president and CEO of Gulf Coast Funds Management LLC in McLean, Va.

It is unclear from the IG’s email why the investor visa application was denied. Visa requests can be denied for a number of reasons, including a circumstance where an applicant has a criminal background or is considered a threat to national security or public safety.

I wonder if Harry Reid’s son is friends with Hillary Clinton’s brother since both are into Chinese solar Wind Mills.

Mayorkus was born in Cuba. No wonder he asked Clinton to pardon a drug lord.
