Obama Vowed To Televise H-Care Debate

From Fox News:

C-SPAN Challenges Congress to Open Health Care Talks to TV Coverage

January 5, 2010

The head of C-SPAN has implored Congress to open up the last leg of health care reform negotiations to the public, as top Democrats lay plans to hash out the final product among themselves.

The head of C-SPAN has implored Congress to open up the last leg of health care reform negotiations to the public, as top Democrats lay plans to hash out the final product among themselves.

C-SPAN CEO Brian Lamb wrote to leaders in the House and Senate Dec. 30 urging them to open "all important negotiations, including any conference committee meetings," to televised coverage on his network.

"The C-SPAN networks will commit the necessary resources to covering all of the sessions LIVE and in their entirety," he wrote.

In a Tuesday afternoon press conference on health legislation negotiations, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi appeared to object to the premise behind the request.

"There has never been a more open process for any legislation in anyone who’s served here’s experience," she said.

However, Republican leaders sided with C-SPAN’s calls for transparency.

"As House Republican leader, I can confidently state that all House Republicans strongly endorse your proposal and stand ready to work with you to make it a reality," Minority Leader John Boehner wrote in response to the letter. "Hard-working families won’t stand for having the future of their health care decided behind closed doors. These secret deliberations are a breeding ground for more of the kickbacks, shady deals and special-interest provisions that have become business as usual in Washington." …

"We don’t even know yet whether there’s going to be a conference," Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chairman Chris Van Hollen said responding to a question about the C-SPAN request. "It’s not clear whether or not that’s going to happen yet."

This format would seem ideal for closed-door meetings, which congressional Democrats have used many times to figure out sensitive provisions in the health care bill — though President Obama pledged during the campaign to open up health care talks to C-SPAN’s cameras.

"That’s what I will do in bringing all parties together, not negotiating behind closed doors, but bringing all parties together, and broadcasting those negotiations on C-SPAN so that the American people can see what the choices are," Obama said at a debate against Hillary Clinton in Los Angeles on Jan. 31, 2008.

Asked about the request to Congress, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said he hadn’t seen the letter

Lamb urged Congress in his letter to fling open the doors in the final stretch of the negotiations.

"President Obama, Senate and House leaders, many of your rank-and-file members, and the nation’s editorial pages have all talked about the value of transparent discussions on reforming the nation’s health care system," he wrote. "Now that the process moves to the critical stage of reconciliation between the chambers, we respectfully request that you allow the public full access, through television, to legislation that will affect the lives of every single American." …

Meanwhile, lest we forget:

Pres. Obama on Transparent Health Care Negotiations and C-SPAN

During a prime time news conference on health care, President Obama responded to a question from the Chicago Tribune’s Christi Parsons about health care negotiations being broadcast on C-SPAN.

Obama Promising Televised Healthcare Negotiations

President Obama Tells the world that Health Care negotiations will be Bipartisan, Transparent and televised on C-Span.

But that was then, and this is now.

Of course there is a part of us that wonders what any of this had to do with Mr. Obama in the first place.

Doesn’t Congress decide what gets televised?

Big shock, they’ve decided to keep things secret – can’t have the people knowing what’s in there until it’s too late.

From Fox News and the Associated Press:

Obama, Dems Agree to Closed-Door Health Negotiations

WASHINGTON – President Obama and congressional Democratic leaders agreed Tuesday to bypass a conference committee and keep negotiations to reconcile the Senate and House health care reform bills a closed-door affair.

They concluded that the House will work off the Senate’s version, amend it and send it back to the Senate for final passage, according to a House leadership aide, speaking on condition of anonymity in order to discuss the private meeting.

Obama held an Oval Office meeting Tuesday evening with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and his No. 2, Sen. Dick Durbin joined in by phone.

Obama himself will take a hands-on role in the final health care talks, convening another meeting with congressional leaders at the White House on Wednesday, the aide said.

The aim is to get a final bill to Obama’s desk before the State of the Union policy address sometime in early February.

Democrats reacted defensively to criticism that they are taking the final, most crucial stage of the debate behind closed doors, contending they’ve conducted a transparent process with hundreds of public meetings and legislation posted online. Republicans seized on a newly released letter from the head of the C-SPAN network calling on congressional leaders to open the final talks to the public, and cited Obama’s campaign trail pledge to do just that.

Asked about that promise, Pelosi remarked, without elaboration: “There are a number of things he was for on the campaign trail.”

At least Pelosi admits that Obama will say anything to get elected.

The C-SPAN Lie? See Eight Clips of Obama Promising Televised Healthcare Negotiations

blah blah blah blah blah blah blah…

lie, lie, lie, lie, lie, lie, lie, lie, lie….

Every word that comes out of the criminal’s mouth is a lie.

    Every word.

He wouldn’t bother to say it if it wasn’t a lie.

The public does take a long time to see the facts. Makes me wonder if the liberals have calculated the saturation point when he has to stop talking.

Or, more likely, just keep telling the lie and when confronted with the facts, tell the lie.

But I still wonder if they have accurately assessed the saturation point of the lying.

  3. TheChicagoWay says:

It is completely irrelevant on whether the closed door meeting will be televised or not. This bill is much too far reaching to be “ironed out” in a closed door meeting. The real outrage, besides the untold violation of procedural rules that have ALREADY occurred, is that they are bypassing the committee process altogether.

Anyhow, this bill has NOTHING to do with health care. It’s primary purpose is to make the vast majority of the middle class eligible for subsidies. A vast new entitlement class that the government cannot afford. This coupled with runaway federal spending and the removal of “caps” on Fannie and Freddie are bringing the Cloward-Piven strategy closer to fruition… Everything else is a distant second and most members of Congress are “useful idiots” that do not even have a clue as to what is really going on. Never mind the Press…They are too busy deriding “death panels” as the lie of the year….

If you can stomach it, here is the Moron swearing 8 separate times about CSPAN:

If it’s not eight, it’s not my fault.

I became sick after the 3rd second and couldn’t watch them all.

  6. joeblough says:

They are getting more bold and brazen with their lies.

I caught Greta talking to Rove last night on Fox about Robert Gibbs extraordinary insulting dismissiveness in response to questions about this matter — followed immediately by a clip of Mad Nancy babbling to the cameras about how this has been the most open and “transparent” legislative process that has ever transpired.

I have to admit that I was a tiny bit shocked.

    From Wikipedia

The Big Lie (German: Große Lüge) is a propaganda technique. The expression was coined by Adolf Hitler in his 1925 autobiography Mein Kampf for a lie so “colossal” that no one would believe that someone “could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously”.

  7. Yarddog1 says:

If these despicable slime balls are so proud of themselves and their glorious health care plan why would they not welcome everyone to witness this historic event?

Truth is that most crime, fraud and bottom feeding is better planned and executed under cover of darkness or in secrecy.

All of them are traitorous criminals.

    • Liberals Demise says:

The only thing “historic” about this is the fraud perpetrated and the fleecing of the Treasury.
Not to mention the trouncing of the Constitution ……among other things.

  8. canary says:

Obama’s take on C-SPAN and no one listening.

By the time we reach the floor and the clerk starts calling the roll, each of the senators will have determined – in consultation with his or her staff, caucus leader, preferred lobbyists, interest groups, constituent mail, and ideological leanings – just how to position himself on the issue.
It makes for an efficient process, which is much appreciated by the members, who are juggling twelve- or thirteen-hour schedules and want to get back to their offices to meet constituents or return phone calls, to a nearby hotel to cultivate donors, or to the television studio for a live interview.
If you stick around, though you may see one lone senator standing at his desk after the others have left, seeking recognition to deliver a statement on the floor. ….
But the speaker will be addressing a near-empty chamber: just the presiding officer, a few staffers, the Senate reporter, and C-SPANS unblinking eye. The speaker will finish…. In the world’s greatest deliberative body, no one is listening. ——————————————————–

Where is the relic media yelling about this. If this was the Bush administration there would be stories on the news every night. Where are the editorials?

  10. canary says:

The gov health bill is unlawful search & seizure. Why aren’t Republicans yelling about that and that they are allowing themselves to be worthless.
Why aren’t the Republicans gathering and unscrewing the doors off, if they don’t want to push the doors in.
