Obama Called Jason Collins To Offer His Support

From the Associated Press:

Obama calls Collins, offers support on coming out

WASHINGTON (AP) — A groundbreaking pronouncement from NBA veteran Jason Collins — "I’m gay" — reverberated Monday through Washington, generating accolades from lawmakers on Twitter and a supportive phone call from President Barack Obama.

Hours after Collins disclosed his sexuality in an online article, Obama reached out by phone, expressing his support and telling Collins he was impressed by his courage, the White House said.

Is this the same Barack Obama who never picked up the phone to check on the American personnel being attacked in Benghazi? Maybe if Ambassador Steven had been openly gay, he would have bothered.

Collins, 34, becomes the first active player in one of four major U.S. professional sports leagues to come out as gay. He has played for six teams in 12 seasons, including this past season with the Washington Wizards, and is now a free agent.

Mr. Collins has been a back-up for most of his career. And he only played in six games last year. His career was already over. So he was a natural for this.

But notice how all of this push for professional athletes ‘to come out’ just happens to coincide with the Jackie Robinson movie, ’42’ being in the theaters. Once again, we are supposed to see this as an exact parallel to baseball’s color barrier.

Now, if only Tim Tebow would come out as gay, maybe the NFL would be pressured into making sure he gets a contract, too. Or is being a Christian so irredeemable that even being gay doesn’t help?

Organizing for Action, a grassroots group [sic] offered its support for Collins… writing to Collins on Twitter on Monday that the group’s supporters "stand with you today."

And first lady Michelle Obama chimed in on Twitter on Monday afternoon to applaud Collins. "So proud of you, Jason Collins! This is a huge step forward for our country. We’ve got your back! [sic!]" the tweet read. It was signed "mo" — signifying that the first lady personally wrote the message.

Wow. That really is impressive. (And isn’t it cute the way Mr. and Mrs. Obama communicate on twitter through the phony Barack Obama account that is run by a political PAC. (And, as the New York Times reported, 70% of its followers are fake.)

Former President Bill Clinton also voiced encouragement, releasing a statement that asks fans, NBA colleagues and the media to support and respect him. Clinton said he has known Collins since he attended Stanford University with his daughter Chelsea…

In fact, they were jogging around the World Trade Center together on the morning of 9/11.

Chelsea Clinton also tweeted her support for Collins Monday, saying she was proud of her friend for having the strength and courage to be the first openly gay player in the NBA..

That is, if he ever gets on another team.

Earlier Monday, White House spokesman Jay Carney said Collins’ decision was another example of progress and evolution in the U.S. as Americans grow more accepting of gay rights and same-sex marriage. He said he hoped the 34-year-old center’s NBA colleagues will also offer support. "We view that as another example of the progress that has been made and the evolution that has been taking place in this country," Carney said.

Rome "evolved" along these same lines.

Chad Griffin, the president of Human Rights Campaign, a gay rights group –

Mr. Griffin is also a major Obama bundler. In fact, lest we forget, Griffin was the person who forced Obama’s ‘evolution’ on ‘gay rights,’ via Joe Biden.

[S]aid Collins has "forever changed the face of sports. No longer will prejudice and fear force gay athletes to remain silent about a fundamental part of their lives," Griffin said.

Excellent. So there should be no more complaints on these lines. We will hear no more about it.

The NBA player also received support from Rep. Joe Kennedy III, D-Mass., his college roommate. Kennedy tweeted Monday that "I’ve always been proud to call (Collins) a friend, and I’m even prouder to stand with him today."

Mr. Kennedy can stand? The rehab must be working.

Obama plans to visit and play ball with NBA’s Jason Collins in the near future to add an autographed ball to set next to Tiger Wood’s autographed golf ball.

And MO is happy because it means another faraway from her husband vacation for her too.
She will be careful to avoid future gaffs after recently calling herself a busy single parent.

To think Viagra commercials on TV used to embarrass Obama as he quickly shielded his girls eyes and chose favorite family time to playing board games.

    If Obama had a son…

  4. I wonder how many soldiers wounded in Afghanistan Obama has called this week, or parents of murdered teens in the mean bloody streets of Chicago?

But let’s make front page news of his call to a sodomite…
