Obama-Care $1,200 Tax Will Hit Twice As Many

From an unfazed Associated Press:

Tax penalty to hit nearly 6M uninsured people

By RICARDO ALONSO-ZALDIVAR | September 19, 2012

WASHINGTON (AP) — Nearly 6 million Americans — significantly more than first estimated— will face a tax penalty under President Barack Obama’s health overhaul for not getting insurance, congressional analysts said Wednesday. Most would be in the middle class.

The new estimate amounts to an inconvenient fact for the administration, a reminder of what critics see as broken promises.

Only "critics" realize that we have been lied to?

The numbers from the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office are 50 percent higher than a previous projection by the same office in 2010, shortly after the law passed. The earlier estimate found 4 million people would be affected in 2016, when the penalty is fully in effect…

And those numbers are probably twice what we were originally promised before the law was rammed through Congress. But we had to pass Obama-Care to find out what was in it.

[I]n his first campaign for the White House, Obama pledged not to raise taxes on individuals making less than $200,000 a year and couples making less than $250,000.

Oh, well, what’s a promise?

And the budget office analysis found that nearly 80 percent of those who’ll face the penalty would be making up to or less than five times the federal poverty level. Currently that would work out to $55,850 or less for an individual and $115,250 or less for a family of four.

Average penalty: about $1,200 in 2016…

So at least six million Americans will have to pay this $1,200 tax. That is, until it goes up, as taxes always do.

Starting in 2014, virtually every legal resident of the U.S. will be required to carry health insurance or face a tax penalty, with exemptions for financial hardship, religious objections and certain other circumstances…

It is always gratifying to remember that illegal aliens and Muslims and ‘the poor’ will still get to ‘freeload.’

A spokeswoman for the Obama administration said 98 percent of Americans will not be affected by the tax penalty — and suggested that those who will be should face up to their civic responsibilities.

"This (analysis) doesn’t change the basic fact that the individual responsibility policy will only affect people who can afford health care but choose not to buy it," said Erin Shields Britt of the Health and Human Services Department. "We’re no longer going to subsidize the care of those who can afford to buy insurance but make a choice not to buy it."

Unless they are illegal aliens or Muslims or ‘poor.’ All of whom are exempted from the Obama-Care tax. Those people we will continue to subsidize.

But just wait until the rest of the 47% figure all of this out and realize they are going to have to pay taxes, after all.

But as has been pointed out (I’ll try to finda link to a good article about it) there is no real teeth in the current law verbatim when it comes to collecting the “penalty” since it is not actually a tax, even though it is only legal because it is a tax. Hmm. There is no sepcific authirization to penalize or audit anyone as a result of not paying the pentax or taxalty or whatever. I am sure this will be rectified post haste if obama wins, and within a few years if Romney does, but I for one will flat refuse to pay. Of course, there is the matter that because I am a responsible breadwinner and father of 2, I will be providing my children and wife with health insurance to the best of my ability because that’s what I personally feel responsible for. If that means no iphone 5, no 90 inch 3D TV and no new ATV or truck, PBR instead of Bud and not taking vacations I can’t afford, than so be it. I’m sure since most Americans feel the same way about personal responsibilty this will all end up beinga non issue (sarc)

“Virtually”? I thought Obamacare was supposed to force “literally” every legal resident to carry health insurance. Wasn’t that the stated goal…insurance for the uninsured?
If 0 is reelected, we will all need an exemption for financial hardship by 2014.

  3. Guess who is exempt form Obamacare and these taxes? That is right! Muslims…because they say they don’t believe in taxes.
