Obama Decided To Aid Syrian Rebels Weeks Ago

From an unfazed Washington Post:

Decision to arm Syrian rebels was reached weeks ago, U.S. officials say

By Karen DeYoung, Anne Gearan and Scott Wilson | June 14, 2013

President Obama’s decision to begin arming the Syrian rebels followed more than a year of internal debate over whether it was worth the dual risks of involving the United States in another war and seeing U.S. weapons fall into the hands of extremist groups among the rebels.

The White House said the final push came this week after U.S. intelligence agencies concluded with “high certainty” that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s forces had used chemical weapons against the rebels.

But U.S. officials said that the determination to send weapons had been made weeks ago and that the chemical weapons finding provided fresh justification to act…

If the decision to arm the Syrian Rebels (who are mostly Al Qaeda) was made ‘weeks ago,’ then all the claims about it being based upon Assad having ‘crossed Obama’s red line’ by using poison gas were lies. Which doesn’t not seem to bother the Washington Post at all, or anyone else in our news media.

But you have to wonder what else have the Obama administration have been lying to us about?

Meanwhile, we have this from this ‘exclusive report comes from the America-hating ‘journalist’ and ‘Truther,’ Robert Fisk at the UK’s Independent:

Iran to send 4,000 troops to aid President Assad forces in Syria

World Exclusive: US urges UK and France to join in supplying arms to Syrian rebels as MPs fear that UK will be drawn into growing conflict

By Robert Fisk | 16 June 2013

Washington’s decision to arm Syria’s Sunni Muslim rebels has plunged America into the great Sunni-Shia conflict of the Islamic Middle East, entering a struggle that now dwarfs the Arab revolutions which overthrew dictatorships across the region.

For the first time, all of America’s ‘friends’ in the region are Sunni Muslims and all of its enemies are Shiites. Breaking all President Barack Obama’s rules of disengagement, the US is now fully engaged on the side of armed groups which include the most extreme Sunni Islamist movements in the Middle East.

The Independent on Sunday has learned that a military decision has been taken in Iran – even before last week’s presidential election – to send a first contingent of 4,000 Iranian Revolutionary Guards to Syria to support President Bashar al-Assad’s forces against the largely Sunni rebellion that has cost almost 100,000 lives in just over two years.  Iran is now fully committed to preserving Assad’s regime, according to pro-Iranian sources which have been deeply involved in the Islamic Republic’s security, even to the extent of proposing to open up a new ‘Syrian’ front on the Golan Heights against Israel.

In years to come, historians will ask how America – after its defeat in Iraq and its humiliating withdrawal from Afghanistan scheduled for  2014 – could have so blithely aligned itself with one side in a titanic Islamic struggle stretching back to the seventh century death of the Prophet Mohamed. The profound effects of this great schism, between Sunnis who believe that the father of Mohamed’s wife was the new caliph of the Muslim world and Shias who regard his son in law Ali as his rightful successor – a seventh century battle swamped in blood around the present-day Iraqi cities of Najaf and Kerbala – continue across the region to this day. A 17th century Archbishop of Canterbury, George Abbott, compared this Muslim conflict to that between “Papists and Protestants”…

As you can see, Fisk can’t even refrain from veering off into lunacy within four paragraphs of this news report. Still, if it is true, it’s a gigantic ratcheting up of Obama’s Syrian war.

But, once again, nobody in our news media seems to care.

nerobama outflanked himself beautifully on this one. He’s an amateur being advised by know-nothings. There was no exigent need to join the frackas. By casting his lot in with the Sunnis (I don’t understand this) and agreeing to arm them, he has made a committment. In the wake of it, the Russians and Iranians took the opposite side. Now that the Shi’ites have the backing of some bigger fish, nerobama’s hand has been called. He can either stick it out and escalate the tensions between the US, Iran, and Russia, risking open war between the three. Or he can back down and make the US look weak….again. He placed himself in a no-win situation while pledging support for Al-Qaeda. I know nerobama didn’t expect this possibility, but did none of the intelligence advisors see this? The State Department should have seen this as a distinct possibility likelihood. In all probability, nerobama was advised of this, he simply chose to ignore it and proceed with giving the terrorists weapons, money, and backing.

Just more proof that the Kenyan isn’t the brilliant constitutional professor we were told he was. He may think he’s the smartest guy in the room, and that is probably true judging by the advisors he’s chosen, but he’s still not up to Cheney or Bush’s intellect.

Didn’t the Syrian rebels capture a bus load of Revolutionary Guard forces last year? This isn’t any big scoop. Maybe the number has grown but the policy isn’t new.

Fisk is a real idiot. We haven’t lost any wars in the middle east. Ask the Al-Queda leadership. Uh oh…..you can’t. They’re mostly dead.

  3. Because it’s worked out so well in our glorious past to interfere in other nations.

I can see why he won the Nobel Peace Prize before taking office.

  4. BTW – note the progression

Washington (not the USA) announces support for rebels
    Putin say Uh Uh.
Washington moves troops, planes, missiles and bombs to Jordan
    Putin says Aw, hell no
Obama makes decision to deny airspace
Putin says Russia will prevent that
Major news story breaks in Washington State Controlled media that Putin is a petty thief, stealing Robert Kraft’s Superbowl ring.

Please don’t make me connect the PR dots for you.
