Obama Delays Budget Until August Recess

From an unfazed Associated Press:

White House putting off budget update

WASHINGTON — The White House is being forced to acknowledge the wide gap between its once-upbeat predictions about the economy and today’s bleak landscape.

The administration’s annual midsummer budget update is sure to show higher deficits and unemployment and slower growth than projected in President Barack Obama’s budget in February and update in May, and that could complicate his efforts to get his signature health care and global-warming proposals through Congress.

The release of the update — usually scheduled for mid-July — has been put off until the middle of next month, giving rise to speculation the White House is delaying the bad news at least until Congress leaves town Aug. 7 on its summer recess

The administration earlier this year predicted that unemployment would peak at about 9 percent without a big stimulus package and 8 percent with one. Congress did pass a $787 billion two-year stimulus measure, yet unemployment soared to 9.5 percent in June and appears headed for double digits.

Obama’s current forecast anticipates 3.2 percent growth next year, then 4 percent or higher growth from 2011 to 2013. Private forecasts are less optimistic, especially for next year.

Any downward revision in growth or revenue projections would mean that budget deficits would be far higher than the administration is now suggesting

The Democratic-controlled Congress is reeling from last week’s testimony by the head of the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, Douglas Elmendorf, that the main health care proposals Congress is considering would not reduce costs — as Obama has insisted — but "significantly expand" the federal financial responsibility for health care.

That gave ammunition to Republican critics of the bill.

Citing the CBO testimony, House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, on Monday accused Democrats of "burying this budget update until after Congress leaves town next month." He called the budget-update postponment "an attempt to hide a record-breaking deficit as Democratic leaders break arms to rush through a government takeover of health care." …

Gee, what a surprise this is.

Especially in view of Mr. Obama assuring us that he would have the most transparent administration in history.

Well, he’s transparent all right.

But not quite in the way he meant it.

If the budget update can be delayed until the congressional recess than cap and tax and Obamacare can wait until after the recess as well.

“and that could complicate his efforts to get his signature health care and global-warming proposals through Congress.”

You said it. Every time I hear one of these yahoos say that we can’t wait until after the recess to ban health care and pass the cap and trade plan because it’s too busy after the recess, and the members won’t want to pass such ambitious stuff next year in an election year, I think, well that’s a good thing isn’t it? If you wouldn’t want to let your mother catch you doing it, you shouldn’t be doing it on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives.

About as transparent as a brick wall – what a bunch of bs – is this just like forcing the EPA to hold their report until after the C(r) and Trade(off) bill was shoved down our throats?

Where in the name of the Edward R. Murrow is a single damn investigative, interested, honest media person – I can’t believe all of them have sold their soul to the devil no, no anti-Christ no, no Obama.

Isn’t there one, single report, media outlet, news station who is reporting this, at all? [Yes I listen to Glenn, Rush & even Hannity now and again – thanks to the State media, they are personna non grata in all things Obama]

We The People can no longer wait – this is way past even serious – this jackel in disguise is going to destroy America. Is that what you want for your children and grandchildren? I just do not see how anyone who values Independence, Freedom, Liberty and most of all – government staying the he!! out of an American citizen’s life, wallet and property – can even stand this kind of Un-Constitutional bs that this pathetic excuse for a community organizer (damn, he’s done more to divide and create racial enmity in 7 months than any other politician in the history of this country) is peddling.

    God Help America.

At least his approval rating are going down but not fast enough for me. This guy is a tool with a capital T. He’s funneling money to his cronies as fast as he can. Redesigning the USA in his perverted image. Everything is a crisis (thanks Rahm). I hope all those hopey changey fools get what they deserve. I have to agree that the media has turned into a bunch of disgusting sycophantic drooling idiots. I hope and pray that this all doesn’t come to blows but I’m afraid it will

Somewhere in a back room in Washington DC, there is a meeting:

Pelosi: Well, whattya slackers all have up your sleeves this time? Barry’s numbers seem to be falling and we’ve got a job to do. We have to get this healthcare bill signed and we CAN’T even think of succeeding if the citizens see numbers like this!

Reid: Well we could manipulate the numbers so that they all look positive…and failing that, just SAY they are positive…they’ll buy that.

Pelosi: Yeah…that’s what I was thinking…but it still doesn’t take care of the president’s slipping poll numbers. What have you got Barney?

Frank: Yes, the pwesident’s numbers do appear to be pwummeting. We must do some PR to make him appear more pawatable…more popuwar than ever. Maybe we could fwow a party.

    Pelosi: What KIND of party?

Frank: One where evewyone’s invited…we could have hot dogs and turkey burgers and maybe some cwowns. Call that Fwanken guy. And wots and wots of puppies. People wuv puppies.

Pelosi: No, we tried that with Iran…nobody came. And those puppies poop and pee everywhere.

Frank: Yes, it was so much fun.

Holder: I know, we can blame it on whitey.

Pelosi: Good idea, Holder. I’m glad we had you here to, you know, serve drinks and stuff.

    Holder: Say WHUT?

    Pelosi: Never mind…racism….yeah….that’s the ticket

    Holder: Yes, you could……

    Pelosi: We could…..

Holder: You know, start a whole public campaign and canvass the papers, the TV and the radios …

Pelosi: That’s what I was thinking.. Glad I thought of it. Think you can get your boys Rangel, Jackson and Sharpton on it?

    Holder: My whut?

Pelosi: You know…your….homesters…or whatever they are. Your…..peepies or something. Oh I have so much trouble with you people and your hip lingo

Holder: I can get my friends to get on board, sure. But we need to throw it out there as, you know, some form of impotence on the part of the American people. You know, like they have no courage or something.

    Pelosi: You mean, like they’re,……..cowards?

Holder: Yeah….dassit. Cowards. Heh heh heh

Frank: I can submit a memo to the AP that says Amewica is fuww of cowards….and they are afwaid of getting behind Bawack. And that it’s unamerican to not suppawt the pwesident. That oughtta fix ’em.

Pelosi: That’s good. So it’s decided. We have to yell at the people some more….snap ’em back into line. Biden. you’re our backup plan….if asked you just say, “We guessed wrongly about how much all this would cost” You got it? Repeat it back to me–

Biden: Well, ( hyuck hyuck) All you have to do is look around….and….

    Pelosi: Joe….JOE….

    Biden: What?

Pelosi: Just stick to the script you old fart….. Now I’ve got to go…my face is starting to loosen….

And so they decided to push the idea that Obama’s sagging popularity numbers were a result of the people being unfaithful and unsupportive and that the budget numbers either need not be revealed just yet, or if they did, to simply have Biden talk to the press.

And so ended another meeting of our de facto congress. I would like to imagine that at some point, Batman came in and managed to get them all implicating themselves and had them tied up and delivered to Commissioner Gordon post haste….but….no. This isn’t a comic book…..or is it?

    • Lurkin_no_mo says:

More like ‘Dawn of the Living Dead”….but that was a movie.
Loved the Bwaney Fwank lines…so twue, so twue.

    • Melly says:

Funny stuff Rusty. CBS should hire you as a sitcom writer. Your Barney “Fwank” is hysterical. Thanks for the morning chuckle.

You got the Fwank down pat!!

  9. canary says:

How come when Obama is taller than everyone, he always puts great effort to lift his nose high in the air, and strain to lower his eyeballs to look down.
Seriously, Just try doing this, it is extremely painful. ouch.
