Obama Discussed Seat With Blago Nov 5

From the local Western Illinois CBS television affiliate KHQA:

President-elect Barack Obama, right, greets Illinois Gov. Rob Blagojevich, left, at the Bipartisan meeting of the National Governor’s Association at Congress Hall, Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2008 in Philadelphia, Pa. Looking on are Gov. of Indiana., Mitch Daniels, left center, and Gov. of Ohio, Ted Strickland, right center.

Who will fill Obama’s senate seat?

Ill. governor meeting with Obama today

By Carol Sowers
Wednesday, November 05, 2008

CHICAGO, ILL. — Now that Barack Obama will be moving to the White House, his seat in the U.S. Senate representing Illinois will have to be filled.

That’s one of Obama’s first priorities today.

He’s meeting with Governor Rod Blagojevich this afternoon in Chicago to discuss it.

Illinois law states that the governor chooses that replacement.

There’s already been speculation about his selection…from Congressman Jesse Jackson, Jr. of Chicago’s south side who co-chaired Obama’s presidential campaign, to recently-retired state senate president Emil Jones, to the governor himself.

It’s likely the governor will make his decision quickly so the new senator will get some seniority before newly-elected senators take office in January.

Part of the timing depends on when Obama officially vacates his senate seat.

Note that Mr. Obama met with Mr. Blagojevich the day after the election. This issue was that important to him.

And this is just one of the probably numerous contemporaneous news articles that put the lie to Mr. Obama’s claim that he never spoke with Governor Blagojevich about who would fill his Senate seat.

  Update!

Weirdly enough, the above article has since been removed from the local CBS affiliate’s website.

But KHQA even published a follow-up story, three days later, which has yet to be scrubbed from their website:

Director of Illinois Dept. of Veterans’ Affairs visits Quincy

Duckworth comments on consideration for Senate

QUINCY, IL — Now that Barack Obama will be moving to the White House, his seat in the U.S. Senate representing Illinois will have to be filled.

Obama met with Governor Rod Blagojevich earlier this week to discuss it. Illinois law states that the governor chooses that replacement. There’s already been speculation about his selection…from Congressman Jesse Jackson, Junior to Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs Director Tammy Duckworth.

Duckworth made an appearance in Saturday’s Veterans’ parade in Quincy. We asked her about the possibility of filling Obama’s seat.

“The Governor’s office confirmed yesterday that he is considering me and I am deeply honored jus to be considered. I hope whoever is selected is someone who is willing to travel around the state and gets to know this wonderful state. I’m just honored to be considered,” Duckworth said.

The governor expects to make his decision before Christmas. Part of the timing depends on when Obama officially vacates his senate seat.

Let’s see how long it takes them to airbrush this account as well.

  Update!

Hilariously, this second story too has now been pulled down as well. (See the image above for a screen grab of the original article.)

And the following “clarification” has been posted:

KHQA Clarification

Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at 4:04 p.m.

KHQA TV wishes to offer clarification regarding a story that appeared last month on our website ConnectTristates.com.  The story, which discussed the appointment of a replacement for President Elect Obama’in the U.S. Senate, became the subject of much discussion on talk radio and on blog sites Wednesday.

The story housed in our website archive was on the morning of November 5, 2008. It suggested that a meeting was scheduled later that day between President Elect Obama and Illinois Governor Blagojevich. KHQA has no knowledge that any meeting ever took place.  Governor Blagojevich did appear at a news conference in Chicago on that date.

Funny, they didn’t mention their second article from November 8th.

Of course this would not be because of anyone leaning on the local station.

We know Chicago politicians would never lean on a news outlet.

(Thanks to Cincinnatus and Golfer for the heads up.)

I really don’t have a problem with that idea. The governor is a member of the Democrat Party. He’s choosing someone that will work with a Democrat president. If everything was above-board, I wouldn’t mind at all if the guy said “He’s an important link in our political party, and of course I’m going to ask his advice.”

I just think it’s funny watching Obama pretend he never met the guy.

  3. platypus

    Well, well, well. Obambi lies.

I am shocked – shocked I tell you – to discover that Chicago thug/politicians lie.

Put some lipstick on that pig, please.

“Note that Mr. Obama met with Mr. Blagojevich the day after the election. This issue was that important to him”

It will be interesting to see how this is spun.

Obamy was clear yesterday. He said he did NOT meet with Blago and was not aware of what was going on.

My money says this will remain buried by the MSM. If it somehow gets in the open, Obama will say the meeting never happened. If the meeting did happen, it’s Blago’s get-out-of-jail-for-free card.

  5. proreason

    from Politico

“Obama aides see proof of his vindication in the fact that Blagojevich, in the secret tapes, complains that the president-elect’s team won’t give him anything. Obama emerged personally untarnished in the 78-page Blagojevich complaint. He was, to the allegedly deeply corrupt governor, the “mother***er” who was owed no favors and a lily-livered reformer who, instead of a bribe, wouldn’t give the disgusted Blagojevich “anything except appreciation”

    http://www.politico.com/news/s.....Page2.html

If the “president-elect’s team won’t give him anything”, then how did Obamy not know anything about the mess? Obamy hesitated yesterday when he said “I don’t know”….he almost said “we don’t know”. Words.

  6. proreason

“AP WASHINGTON – President-elect Barack Obama on Wednesday joined others calling for Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich to resign, distancing himself further from the unfolding scandal over allegations that the governor schemed to barter Obama’s vacant Senate seat for personal gain.”

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/200.....rnor_obama

I thought Obamy wasn’t going to discuss an “on-going” investigation.

Maybe this is part of a deal with Blago to get him to shut-up.

  7. A Mad Pole

Platypus, you are wrong. “That One” and other politician do not lie. They “MISPEAK”. They are above lying, they would never resort to a lie. But “to mispeak” is human, everybody does it.

  8. beefeater

Funny, that link seems to have been scrubbed!

  9. curvyred

Oh uh typical barry distancing and scrubbing of website.

  10. Cincinnatus

Yep — down the Memory Hole it has gone! Not even Google cache has it.

However, a follow-up story is still on the KHQA web site — get it before it too evaporates:

Again, to stress the timing — Obama and Blago were even thinking about this the day before the election:

    From the Politico:

Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich was captured on tape saying that unless he received “something real good” for the appointment of a top adviser to Barack Obama to fill the president-elect’s Senate seat he would appoint himself, according to the criminal complaint.

“Unless I get something real good [for Senate candidate 1], s***, I’ll just send myself, you know what I’m saying,” Blagojevich was taped saying on November 3rd, the day before Election Day.

The other story has disappeared now too. However, here’s a link to a Google cache of it:

If that one departs this Veil of Tears as well, I made screen capture shot of it, which I can e-mail to SG on request.

Imagine how much effort Soviet Russia would have been spared if they had the internet and photo-shop.

For Barry, it just takes a few clicks to re-write history. Stalin would have been proud of him.

I wonder how long it will be before people start disappearing not just articles?

  16. Cincinnatus

Either the original reporting was sloppy and they didn’t really KNOW whether Obama had met with Blago or they are covering up their previously accurate reports for some reason.

Either way, so much for their “journalistic integrity.”

  17. proreason

    Imagine you are Blago.

You know you discussed this with Obamy’s henchmen, and you can probably prove it.

If you say nothing, you will probably go to jail. If you yap, you run the risk of being erased from website earth.

    What do you do?

My guess….Mr. Blago never says anything, expresses deep regret for his actions, and miraculously comes out of this with a wrist slap. After all, no crime has actually been committed. It was all “hypotheticals”. Obamy is praised to the heavens for the magnificant way he managed to handle this unfortunate incident, which he had absolutely nothing to do with.

My God this site is awesome!–Better than DrudgeReport in my opinion. I have emailed lots of people about it.

I hope this site makes a Fact/Lies list chronologically, so we can all check back to see what really happened with this lying dirtbag. I tried to keep track of the Clinton administration back in 1992, but after Zoe Bard, Travel-gate, and Waco, I lost count.

    Nice work, really……..

  19. jcheney

I’ve started doing the “copy & paste” thing when I see Obama articles.

  20. Steve

JC, please don’t post links to other sites without even any explanation as to what the article is.

  21. Steve

“My God this site is awesome!–Better than DrudgeReport in my opinion. I have emailed lots of people about it.”

Thanks so much for the kind words, Brad. A lot of what makes the site what it is comes from readers sending in tips or posting them in the “Selected News” section.

(BTW, keep it under your hat, but Drudge is a regular reader.)

    We kinda love it!

Question for Blags…. Exactly what is a duck worth these days?

  24. imnewatthis

This disappearing articles thing is really creepy. And please don’t let Kirsten Powers replace Alan Colmes. I grew to dislike her intensely during the whole presidential campaign- what an Obamabot!

RUB OUT! Gangland action on the mean streets of Chicago! A story as real as tomorrow’s headlines!

Some call it “Chi-Town”, others call it “The Windy City”, Carl Sandburg called it “city of broad shoulders, hog butcher to the nation”, which sounds kind of gross. At Rand-McNally they just call it Chicago; a town where anything goes and everything and everyone’s for sale.

No one knows the ways of Chicago better than hard-bitten, chain smoking gang lord Big Barry Obama, the Boss of Bosses. From a smoke-filled office behind the weathered storefront of the Genco Olive Oil company he runs an empire of corruption which reaches to the very doors of the White House – and beyond, come January 20.

Join us now as Big Barry reaches for the phone, which is ringing, as phones are wont to do.

    “Yeah?” growled the underworld kingpin.

    “Hey, boss. It’s me”.

    “Who?”

    “Me. It’s me”.

    “Oh. Hi Mimi”.

    “No, boss. Dis is Vinny”.

“Why didn’t you say so? Geez”.

“Sorry. Youse wanted ta talk ta me, boss?”

“Yeah. I need youse ta go see dat guy”.

“What guy? Da guy who lives downtown?”

“No. Da udder guy, see? Da guy wid da funny hair”.

    “Oh, him. Da hair guy”.

“Yeah. I wanch youse ta take care of him”.

“What take care? Scalp massage? Foot rub? Exfoliate? Like dat?”

“No, stoopid. Take care of as in ‘take care of’, capeeesh?”

“Oh, I got it. Except for da ‘capeesh’ part”.

“Okay. Dis guy needs ta learn who’s da Boss of Bosses dese days, see?”

“Yeah. And that would be…you. Right?”

“Right! Geez…anyway, dis guy; he needs ta get hit. And hit hard. If he talks ta da Feds, it could blow everyding wide open! ”

    “Yeah…blow”.

“He talks too much and he swears too much, according ta dese transcripts”.

    “Yeah…swearing”.

“Way too fuck’n much. Anyways, dat guy will sing like a canary once da G-Men put da squeeze on him and I ain’t gonna look much like da incarnation of da nation’s aspirations for hope and change once dey find outtabout what it took ta make me da Boss, see?”

    “Yeah…aspirations”.

“So hit him hard. When youse are done wid him I don’t want nuthin’ left except a greasy spot and that weird hair of his, got it?”

    “Got it, boss…weird hair”.

“And da Jackson kid too. He’s gotta go”.

    “Michael?!”

    “No, dummy. Da udder one”.

    “Tito? Not Tito, boss!”

“Jesse Jr, you dope! Geez Louise…”

Oh. Okay. F’get aboud him He’s gone”.

    “Good. Dat’s da Chicago Way”.

“I wonder how long it will be before people start disappearing not just articles”

Obama has said climate change is a national security issue. How far of a stretch would it be to say freedom of speech is a national security issue? Right now he is only president select and can only rub out news stories, after he is president we’ll see how many people get smeared or rubbed out.

  27. proreason

Artboy, see if you can work Thunder Butt into the next chapter

  28. artboyusa

Thanks pro; duly noted. Meantime, she features heavily in “Meal of Mystery”, which ran last week.
