Obama: Extremist Ideology Blocks My Sensible Agenda

From Breitbart:

Obama: ‘Extremist Ideology’ That’s Taken Over GOP, ‘Balkanization of Media’ Has ‘Blocked’ My Agenda

By Matthew Boyle | August 10, 2014

President Barack Obama said the power of conservative opposition, including in the media, is blocking his agenda in an interview with New York Times columnist Tom Friedman late last week. “What you’ve seen with our politics, partly because of gerrymandering, partly because of the Balkanization of media so people just watch what reinforces their deepest biases, partly because of big money in politics, is increasingly politicians are rewarded for taking the most extreme, maximalist positions,” Obama told the liberal Times columnist.

Hypocrisy alert. From the left-leaning, Pro Publica, January 25, 2012: "Obama’s Gerrymander — An article this week in The New Yorker suggests that President Barack Obama’s own political rise in Chicago was partially the result of gerrymandering. As The New Yorker’s Ryan Lizza reported, Obama worked with a Democratic redistricting consultant to draw a state senate district tailored for him…"

By the way, who has a more extreme political agenda than Obama? And who has more obstinately refused to ever compromise on anything? (Cf. ‘I won.’)

“Sooner or later, that catches up with you. You end up not being able to move forward on things we need to move forward on. We need to reform our immigration system.

We need to enforce our immigration laws. Not ignore them or rewrite them like a tin-horn dictator.

That would be good not just for our domestic economy but for our position in the world. You travel around Latin America—nothing would more reinforce an admiration for the United States than us doing that.

Because Latin Americans hate it that it is so easy to sneak into the US and get welfare benefits.

We need to rebuild our infrastructure. You go to the Singapore airport and then you come back to one of our airports and you say, huh? We’re not acting like a superpower.” “It’s like going from the Jetsons to the Flintstones,” Friedman agreed.

We thought Mr. Friedman preferred the Flintstones model? Doesn’t he espouse the dangers of global warming? (Hint: Yes. You might even say he is crazy about global warming.)

“I have to say here, I’ve been speaking in generalities, and trying not to be too political, but that ideological extremism and maximalist position is much more prominent right now in the Republican Party than the Democrats. Democrats have problems, but overall if you look at the Democratic consensus, it’s a pretty commonsense, mainstream consensus. It’s not a lot of wacky ideological nonsense, the way it is generally fact-based and reason-based…"

If Mr. Obama believes this he is dangerously deluded. The American people in poll after poll oppose every Obama and Democrat policy by wide margins. And the best proof of this can be found every election year, when every Democrat candidate runs to the right of Rush Limbaugh. (Cf. any current Democrat campaign.)

"We’re not denying science, we’re not denying climate change, we’re not pretending that somehow having a whole bunch of uninsured people is the American way. We’re doing things that are pretty sensible…

And look how much better off the country and the world is because of Obama’s super-sensible agenda. There has never been so much peace and prosperity and good feeling.

    What a great pot-kettle moment.

Only a 100 percent-died-in-the-wool malignant narcissist could even think — much less say — this crazy stuff.
