Obama Fails To Meet Gitmo Deadline

From a surprisingly forgiving New York Times:

Guantánamo Won’t Close by January, Obama Says

By JACK HEALY

November 18, 2009

President Obama acknowledged for the first time on Wednesday that his administration would miss a self-imposed deadline to close the detention center at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, by mid-January, admitting the difficulties of following through on one of his first pledges as president.

In television interviews during his week-long trip to Asia, Mr. Obama said that he hoped to shut down the prison facility sometime next year, but he did not set a new deadline.

“We are on a path and process where I would anticipate that Guantanamo will be closed next year,” Mr. Obama said in an interview with Fox News in Beijing. “I’m not going to set an exact date because a lot of this is also going to depend on cooperation from Congress.”

As he campaigned for office last year, Mr. Obama railed against the detention complex on an American military base in Cuba, calling it a symbol used by terrorists to recruit new members.

Mr. Obama ordered the closing of Guantánamo as one of his first acts as president, but his plans to transfer some of its 200 remaining inmates to other countries or to trial or detention in the United States have been stymied by vocal opposition from Democrats and Republicans in Congress, as well as residents who live close to prisons that could house terrorists

So either Mr. Obama doesn’t care that the terrorists are using Gitmo to raise more terrorists, or that was always a lie.

(Of course it could be both.)

Mr. Obama ordered the closing of Guantánamo as one of his first acts as president, but his plans to transfer some of its 200 remaining inmates to other countries or to trial or detention in the United States have been stymied by vocal opposition from Democrats and Republicans in Congress, as well as residents who live close to prisons that could house terrorists.

As far as we know nothing stands in the way of Mr. Obama transferring terrorists to other countries or to the US. (Congress passed legislation last month, which would pay for it.)

Certainly there is nothing that Republicans could say or do to stop him from doing whatever he wants with them.

It’s almost as if the New York Times is trying to make excuses for his failure to what he so often and loudly promised.

And speaking of how The Times tries to protect their hero, here are some of the other headlines from other reports about this development from around the world:

We’re going to miss Guantanamo deadline, Obama admits Times Online

US ‘to miss Guantanamo deadline’ Aljazeera.net

Obama admits will miss deadline to shut Guantanamo Canada.com

Obama admits failing to keep Gitmo promise PRESS TV

Funny how neither deadline or fail appear in the headline from the New York Times or even in the article’s lede (lead).

Instead we get the very gentle, “President Obama acknowledged for the first time… his administration would miss a self-imposed deadline.” And then we hear about all the “difficulties” he is facing.

But just imagine if it were President Bush.

No excuses would be permitted. It would be the crime of the century.

Which, in fact, is exactly how they treated Mr. Bush keeping Guantanamo open.

Let’s see does this qualify as
    A Lie
    A Broken Campaign Promise
    A Duplicitous President
A Clear And Consistent Example of How Democrats will say Anything to get Elected

It’s not the boy king’s fault.

The guy he assigned to make it happen fell down on the job.

But the greatest administrator who has ever lived has solved that problem. The dawdling incompetant idiot has been let go to collect millions twiddling his thumbs. The fuhrer demands decisive action from his underlings. Only he is allowed to dawdle, as it should be.

And Anita Dunn’s husband has been brought in to solve that problem.

That’s how REAL leaders get things done.

Now, back to the reversing the course of the oceans!!

.. and “saving or creating” gazillions of jobs this week! Bunches and bunches of new congressional districts, too!

This is all hard work .. heavy lifting, ya’ know. Just sayin’.

Add this to the already long list of failures.
He is only in his 10th month and he’s a loser.
Who hasn’t he bent over for?

I might be wrong on this one but it does hold some truth. I believe that the Obama administration has struck a deal with Ole’ Fidel Castro down in Cuba. Obama is going to just “give back” to Cuba, Guantanamo Naval Base which has a finite lease agreement with Cuba and the U.S. I do believe this is going to happen in the next 3 years. For sure if Obama does get re-elected. Gitmo will no longer be a U.S. Naval Base but be given back to Cuba.

Did anyone else notice that he had to ask Greg Craig how they were going to close Gitmo?

Like a teenager in the high school play looking offstage for a cue.

The U.S. has a treaty from decades ago, to lease Gitmo bay, for $4000 dollars a year. It helps Cuba’s economy, and the terrorists have it good there. Obama is going to cost billions and years of torture on Americans.

At a hearing Holden was blasted with questions he could not answer, as to the legal aspects of trying war criminals we caught in a foreign country. We should have tried them there, and chopped their heads off. Done the Koran 4 witnesses and chopped their heads off. This shows we have been nice without bringing them on American soil giving them constitutional rights.

Sarah Palin did an excellent job on Hannity, on this issue, and you can’t help but believe McCain gagged her, because he tip-toed like everyone else around Obama.
