Obama Flacks Insist We Are Better Off Now

From an unquestioning Associated Press:

Are Americans better off? Obama aides won’t say

By BEN FELLER and DAVID ESPO | Sunday Sept 2, 2012

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Flinching in the face of economic weakness, President Barack Obama’s top aides refused to say Sunday in the run-up to the Democratic National Convention if Americans are better off than they were four years ago…

Actually, when you read the rest of the article the Obama aides do claim we are better off now than we were when Obama took office. But even they realize that is such a laughable lie they can’t come right out and say it.

"The Romney path would be the wrong path for the middle class, the wrong path for this country," said David Plouffe, one of Obama’s top White House aides.

But responding to the question that has become a staple of presidential campaigns, he sidestepped when asked if Americans are better off than when Obama took office. "We’ve clearly improved … from the depths of the recession," he said.

Another aide, David Axelrod, said, "I think the average American recognizes that it took years to create the crisis that erupted in 2008 and peaked in January of 2009. And it’s going to take some time to work through it." …

In actual fact, by every measure this is the worse economic recovery in the history of the nation.

The economy has recovered fitfully at best from the worst recession in decades, and national unemployment is 8.3 percent. Joblessness was spiking when Obama took office and peaked at over 10 percent before it began receding during his term…

Joblessness was at 7.8% when Obama took office. It has never been that low during his term. And it is at 8.3% now.

Plouffe, asked on ABC to answer the better-off question with a yes or no, replied: "I think everybody understands we were this close to a Great Depression. We staved that off. We’re beginning to recover. We have a lot more work to do. We need to grow jobs more quickly, we need to grow middle-class incomes more quickly."

They have not grown the middle class or any other class, apart from the government dependent ‘food stamp’ class. The median income was $54,983 when Obama took office. It is down to $50,964 now.

And meanwhile everything costs a lot more. Including gasoline, which was $1.85 per gallon when Obama took office. It is over $3.78 a gallon now.

In fact, as a study pointed out two weeks ago, all incomes in the three years of Obama’s so-called recovery have decline worse than they did during the actual recession.

Axelrod, on Fox, said, "I can say that we’re in a better position than we were four years ago in our economy in the sense that when this president took office, we were losing 800,000 jobs a month. The quarter before he took office was the worst quarter that this country has had economically since the Great Depression, and we are in a different place, 29 straight months of job growth, 4.5 million private sector jobs."

Like most things that David Axelrod says, this is simply untrue. As we have noted, the unemployment rate is worse now than when Obama took office. And that does not even take into account the unprecedented low workforce participation rate.

In fact, there are two million fewer jobs today than there were when Obama took office. And the population has grown considerably in the last four years.

Meanwhile, all Obama’s policies have given us is a national debt that is at 16 trillion dollars. Which is $6 trillion more than when he took office.

So, in reality, by just about every real life economic measure we are worse off now.

    There is no recovery.

We have a record high number of people on food stamps, more than 46.7 million in June.

Manufacturing has just suffered its sharpest decline in 3 years.

Unemployment is really around 11%, not the fudged 8.5% or whatever the government peddles.

There won’t be a recovery while Barack is President.

Depends on what your definition of We is. We i.e. them are getting away with murder while “We” just getl “Wee Wee Upped”.

Ben Feller is still partying in some hotel in Boulder Colorado reporting last week’s news. Obama and aids had immediately gone to media chanting America is better off, and plans to chant more at the Democratic Convention. David Axelrod is the biggest liar and even his family can’t trust a word he says. Begging him to work from home for liar rehab hasn’t worked.

“Osama is Dead and GM is alive” – Joe “plugs&chains” Biden.
Yup, Osama is dead. Because years of Bush era intelligence paid off and no matter how many times Valarie Jarret talked Commander Jug Ears out of it, he finally had to kill his islamo-fascist idol. It was merely another political calculation. His administration is too leaky to have kept the secret about UBLs location being known, and he would have suffered immeasurable political damage had he NOT killed UBL, and the truth ever leaked out.

As for GM being alive… OK, but it’s on total life support (paid for with tax payer cash). General Motors’ net income from April through June fell 41% to $1.5 billion, $1 billion less than the same quarter a year earlier, GM said on Thursday. Down 41%. Think about that as if it were an individual.
If you make 50K/yr, and your pay, over 3 months, was cut to 29.5K, would you be feelin’ all tingly up the leg?
If you would, you should immediatly proceed to the nearest hospital … YOU’RE HAVING A STROKE.

Obama aide: ‘The country is better off’

“Summing up their point, Obama’s aides reinforced the “bumper sticker” line credited to Vice President

Joe Biden: “Osama bin Laden is dead, GM is alive.”

“We broke the back of al Qaida,” Cutter said.

And these idiots and their hallucinations made fun of Clint of Eastwood.

  6. Petronius says:

If we were better off now, wouldn’t that mean Nerobama’s presidency was a failure?

After all, everything he has done has been calculated to bring down America, to make America weaker, poorer, more vulnerable, and less free.

Thus when you look at his results from his perspective, you can understand why he thinks he is a success.

  7. canary says:

Obama has made life worse for women.
Women do most the shopping and cooking.
Women know how expensive health insurance and medical costs are taking care of children.
Women know how hard it is to get a job and who they have to compete with.
Women see the decline in the schools and education.
Women know the cost of clothes.
Women are the one spending more time and making food cuts trying to cut the budget.
Women gas their cars taking children around.
Women are more tired and worn down since Obama became President.

And it happened overnight when Obama came into office.

Women noticed we are mostly paying extra money for water. Looks like the same size can of green beans, but it’s mostly water. They notice clothes aren’t getting white, and see there is more water as in “inert” ingredients. Less active ingredients.
Try finding socks made out of cotton.
      They notice products weigh less.
That plastic garbage bags anything plastic is worthless, yet twice as much.
Back to waxed dixie cups. The wax makes the thinner paper stiffer.
Plastic is degrading now at the speed of lite. No 10,000 years. lol.
It takes awhile to notice the reason something doesn’t work is because your suppose to use twice as much.
Notice the new concentrated Clorox Bleach? It’s less than the original.
If you don’t see the % don’t buy it. And don’t buy “NICE” brand.

I get so frustrated with Republicans I expect the democrats to say anything and everything, without following their own rules, codes, or standards of decent conduct. (calling Paul Ryan a Nazi, union leader throwing a chair etc)

But Republicans should already have responses macroed into their keyboards.

    1. The economy was tanked by the DEMOCRATS in dealing with Fannie and Freddie. Bush, McCain, Ron Paul ALL warned (many times) about this unregulated entity.
    2. The black democrats (and Barney Frank) all denied there was any emergency.
    3. The banks bet on mortgages, they lost.
    4. Obama bailed out the banks (hush money) to cover all of it up.
    5. Democrats instigated Occupy Wall*Street to further cover up their own involvement.
    6. The banks look bad, Capitalism looks like a failure, Republicans are Capitalists so they are responsible, democrats come out clean on the other side, just like hurricane Katrina.

None of it’s their fault, when ALL of it is their fault.

And Republicans can’t seem to get their message out, or don’t want to.

    • mr_bill says:

Agreed. If the Republicans were half as dedicated as democrats to getting their message out, there wouldn’t be any doubt about the outcome of the election.

  9. AcornsRNutz says:

Is anyone reading this stuff besides us to make fun of it? God I hope not. What frightens me is that there any better than 20% of the population that think this guy is worth re-electing. Rush got nailed as a racist for saying it but he was spot on. The country can survive obama, but it can’t survive obama voters. Anyone who would self impose this lunacy has some serious contempt for the US, and the idea that we are even paying attention to a re-election bid, let alone that everyone thinks this one is going to be close is horrifying.
