Obama ‘Forcefully’ Supports 9/11 Mosque

From a wildly cheering Associated Press:

Obama backs mosque near ground zero

By Erica Werner, Associated Press Writer
August 13, 2010

WASHINGTON – After skirting the controversy for weeks, President Barack Obama is weighing in forcefully on the mosque near ground zero, saying a nation built on religious freedom must allow it.

"As a citizen, and as president, I believe that Muslims have the same right to practice their religion as everyone else in this country," Obama told an intently listening crowd gathered at the White House Friday evening to observe the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

"That includes the right to build a place of worship and a community center on private property in lower Manhattan, in accordance with local laws and ordinances," he said. "This is America, and our commitment to religious freedom must be unshakable."

The White House had not previously taken a stand on the mosque, which would be part of a $100 million Islamic community center two blocks from where nearly 3,000 people perished when hijacked jetliners slammed into the World Trade Center towers on Sept. 11, 2001. Press secretary Robert Gibbs had insisted it was a local matter…

While insisting that the place where the twin towers once stood was indeed "hallowed ground," Obama said that the proper way to honor it was to apply American values.

Harkening back to earlier times when the building of synagogues or Catholic churches also met with opposition, Obama said: "Time and again, the American people have demonstrated that we can work through these issues, and stay true to our core values and emerge stronger for it. So it must be and will be today."

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, an independent who has been a strong supporter of the mosque, welcomed Obama’s words as a "clarion defense of the freedom of religion."

But some victims’ advocates and Republicans were quick to pounce.

"Barack Obama has abandoned America at the place where America’s heart was broken nine years ago, and where her true values were on display for all to see," said Debra Burlingame, a spokeswoman for some Sept. 11 victims’ families and the sister of one of the pilots killed in the attacks.

Building the mosque at ground zero, she said, "is a deliberately provocative act that will precipitate more bloodshed in the name of Allah." …

Entering the highly charged election-year debate, Obama surely knew that his words would not only make headlines in the U.S. but be heard by Muslims worldwide. The president has made it a point to reach out to the global Muslim community, and the over 100 guests at Friday’s dinner in the State Dining Room included ambassadors and officials from numerous nations where Islam is observed, including Saudi Arabia and Indonesia.

And the PLO.

While his pronouncement concerning the mosque might find favor in the Muslim world, Obama’s stance runs counter to the opinions of the majority of Americans, according to polls.

Opponents, including some Sept. 11 victims’ relatives, see the prospect of a mosque so near the destroyed trade center as an insult to the memory of those killed by Islamic terrorists in the 2001 attacks.

This really should come as no surprise. Can you think of a single issue where Mr. Obama has sided with the American people? A single issue where Mr. Obama ‘forcefully’ backed anything good for America?

If we were cynical we would wonder if this and his other recent actions have not been meant to be deliberate provocations. That perhaps he and the rest of the Democrats are hoping to incite some kind of reaction that could be used by them heading into the elections.

But of course it could just be Obama being Obama. Perhaps, in the end, he is more than our first post-American President. He could be our first anti-American President.

It’s good to be led by a moral superior.

We serfs are too ignorant to see the big picture.

That’s why we elect people infinitely smarter than ourselves to rule us.

Radical Islam, we have been corrected to know, has every right to rub our noses in their victory on 9/11.

    • jobeth says:

This isn’t the first time we’ve had our noses rubbed in it.

Remember the “CRESCENT of Embrace” in Shanksville Pa for the flight 93 memorial site.

But no worries…They’ve now changed the name to “The CIRCLE of Embrace”. So of course there could never be any connection at all to the muslims.

Little detail. It’s positioned to face Mecca. Found it was slightly off it was repositioned…but only to agree with the terrain better…yeah I believe that was the reason.

So for now, it’s only the Pentagon that remains free of the dog marking by the muslims. For now…

I expect the boy king will run interference for and forcefully support a memorial site there as well…that somehow…some way, has some muslim bent to it.

      Wait for it…it’s coming.

    • Mithrandir says:

      That right.

Typical lawyer, decides the LETTER OF THE LAW, rather than debating ethical moral choices, which we all have.

It is not what is LEGAL, it is about what you SHOULD do. And in this case, a victory mosque near ground zero is inappropriate. Why don’t they just do what they do to everyone else? Make so many rules and regulations that a mosque is not feasible?

    • sheehanjihad says:

Something tells me that the victory mosque is going to be the most accident prone construction site in the history of building structures. Just my thought…..and my fervent hope.

  2. misanthropicus says:

So inspiring – and dba Obama’s makes me feel so benighted, in need of moral guidance!

  3. Petronius says:

Stripped down to its essence, the President’s message is this :

“America’s chickens are coming home to roost.”

  4. arb says:

There are more than 100 mosques in NYC, and one Ground Zero in the entire country. With President Obama’s support, expect to see more… of each.

  5. Rusty Shackleford says:

“He could be our first anti-American President.”

    Direct, to the point. Perfect.

    Thanks, Steve. (thumbs up)

  6. Rusty Shackleford says:

“This is America, and our commitment to religious freedom must be unshakable.”

It is to laugh. This poseur has pretty much spelled it out for us that anything that’s based in Christian values, including our system of government, is unacceptable to him. He hates it. And, I will say that people are starting to wake up to his code-speak of how he uses words to get what he wants or to convey a false message. By “commitment to religious freedom” he is actually saying the freedom of anything BUT Christianity.

Again, it falls under the umbrella that everything this country has done is bad. He was educated by miscreants and haters and never bothered to go to the card file and check the facts for himself. He was indoctrinated to believe that the US is evil and he thinks he’s going to right all the wrongs.

There is so much wrong with him that it’s hard to begin. The list grows longer every minute.

    • tranquil.night says:

Rusty when he says we’re reminded of “Islam’s role in advancing justice, progress, tolerance, and the dignity of all human beings” you have to figure he’s coding that in Islam’s definition of what a human being is. It’s the only possible way such an insane assertion could be made with a straight face and solid tone.

    • proreason says:

He speaks a version of pig latin that the ruling class has developed.

Whatever they say, you have to put a prefix or suffix of “not”, “nada”, “nil” or “null”

We’ve had a dozen or more of these now:

      – panty bomber
      – Major Hassas
      – Black Panthers
      – Arizona
      – KSM
      – etc.

Nobody’s that tone deaf. Either he doesn’t care, he’s gonna lord it over us come hell or high water, or he has a plan.

This isn’t going to end well.

    • jobeth says:

Pro my guess its a combo of the last two.

“…he’s gonna lord it over us come hell or high water, AND he has a plan.”

    • tranquil.night says:

      That list is significantly telling.

He only makes optically unpopular decisions when it’s part of the real plan. The rest of the agenda is just the politics of appeasement and deceit – of voting “present” – either of his base or whatever Conservative media narrative or crisis is damaging his poll numbers lately.

Just turn down the volume on his preachy words because his actions tell the real & obvious story.

    • Rusty Shackleford says:

“his actions tell the real & obvious story.

Never in the history of this nation has a politician been so worthy of having their words ignored.

    • proreason says:

He only makes optically unpopular decisions when it’s part of the real plan. The rest of the agenda is just the politics of appeasement and deceit – of voting “present”

confucious would be proud to have said it

    • wardmama4 says:

Now, that’s not to say that religion is without controversy. Recently, attention has been focused on the construction of mosques in certain communities — particularly New York. Now, we must all recognize and respect the sensitivities surrounding the development of Lower Manhattan. The 9/11 attacks were a deeply traumatic event for our country. And the pain and the experience of suffering by those who lost loved ones is just unimaginable. So I understand the emotions that this issue engenders. And Ground Zero is, indeed, hallowed ground.

But let me be clear. As a citizen, and as President, I believe that Muslims have the same right to practice their religion as everyone else in this country. And that includes the right to build a place of worship and a community center on private property in Lower Manhattan, in accordance with local laws and ordinances. This is America. And our commitment to religious freedom must be unshakeable. The principle that people of all faiths are welcome in this country and that they will not be treated differently by their government is essential to who we are.

Ok – President Obama – Explain to me exactly how these words are NOT ““I was not commenting and I will not comment on the wisdom of making the decision to put a mosque there” (Saturdays spin on Fridays comments)? At all. Ever. In truth, in reality, You were endorsing a mosque at Ground Zero to muslims and like a good muslim turning around an lying to all American citizens.

GOD HELP AMERICA and help We The People get rid of this muslim who lied and cheated his way into our White House.

  8. Mithrandir says:

Once again, Obama loves to rub our scabs with sandpaper.

ONLY allow this mosque / cultural center, to exist if large space is provided for a JEWISH TEMPLE, a Christian CHURCH, and a museum documenting the horrors of 9-11 and religious extremism.

BUT, once again, the sensitivities of the MAJORITY are overruled and dismissed for the sensitivities of the extreme MINORITY…….and our abusers.

  9. canary says:

Bet Obama is using these monthly muslim get togethers to pray, aside fulfilling his words America is a muslim country.

NY Governor Patterson offered the muslims free land to build their terror moque and they refused it. Money could be used to feed the poor, but then like Obama being poor is a noble thing.

This group of bloodthirsty blind muslims trying to build their terrorist mosque are bad, bad muslims. And is it any wonder they hate Israel. Iran’s Ahrmadman is really bad as he wants to wipe Israel off the map. Any muslim that wants to create or practice Sharia Law is bad in allah’s eyes.

Translations of the Qur’an, Surah 2:

    Total Verses: 286
    Revealed At: MADINA

YUSUFALI: When it is said to them: “Make not mischief on the earth,” they say: “Why, we only Want to make peace!”
PICKTHAL: And when it is said unto them: Make not mischief in the earth, they say: We are peacemakers only.
SHAKIR: And when it is said to them, Do not make mischief in the land, they say: We are but peace-makers.

    PICKTHAL: Alif. Lam. Mim.
    SHAKIR: Alif Lam Mim.

YUSUFALI: As to those who reject Faith, it is the same to them whether thou warn them or do not warn them; they will not believe

YUSUFALI: Allah has sealed… great is the penalty they (incur).
PICKTHAL: …Theirs will be an awful doom.
SHAKIR: Allah has set a seal..and there is a great punishment for them.

YUSUFALI: When it is said to them: “Make not mischief on the earth,” they say: “Why, we only Want to make peace!”

YUSUFALI: Of a surety, they are the ones who make mischief, but they realise (it) not.

YUSUFALI: When they meet those who believe, they say: “We believe;” but when they are alone with their evil ones, they say: “We are really with you: We (were) only jesting.”

YUSUFALI: Allah will throw back their mockery on them, and give them rope in their trespasses; so they will wander like blind ones (To and fro).

PICKTHAL: And do not set up rivals to Allah when ye know (better).
SHAKIR: …. therefore do not set up rivals to Allah while you know.

PICKTHAL: And if ye are in doubt concerning that which We reveal unto Our slave (Muhammad), then produce a surah of the like thereof, and call your witness beside Allah if ye are truthful.

YUSUFALI:….ye cannot- then fear the Fire whose fuel is men and stones,- which is prepared for those who reject Faith.
PICKTHAL: … the Fire prepared for disbelievers, whose fuel is of men and stones.

Why muslims want Israel & to take it from the Jews whose home it was first.

YUSUFALI: O Children of Israel! call to mind the (special) favour which I bestowed upon you, and fulfil your covenant with Me as I fulfil My Covenant with you, and fear none but Me.

PICKTHAL: And believe in that which I reveal, confirming that which ye possess already (of the Scripture), and be not first to disbelieve therein, and part not with My revelations for a trifling price, and keep your duty unto Me.

YUSUFALI: Children of Israel! call to mind the (special) favour which I bestowed upon you, and that I preferred you to all other (for My Message).
PICKTHAL: O Children of Israel! Remember My favour wherewith I favoured you and how I preferred you to (all) creatures.
SHAKIR: O children of Israel! call to mind My favor which I bestowed on you and that I made you excel the nations.

YUSUFALI: And remember We took your covenant and We raised above you (The towering height) of Mount (Sinai) : (Saying): “Hold firmly to what We have given you and bring (ever) to remembrance what is therein: Perchance ye may fear Allah.”
PICKTHAL: And (remember, O Children of Israel) when We made a covenant with you and caused the mount to tower above you, (saying): Hold fast that which We have given you, and remember that which is therein, that ye may ward off (evil).
SHAKIR: And when We took a promise from you and lifted the mountain over you: Take hold of the law (Tavrat) We have given you with firmness and bear in mind what is in it, so that you may guard (against evil).

YUSUFALI: Then woe to those who write the Book with their own hands, and then say:”This is from Allah,” to traffic with it for miserable price!- Woe to them for what their hands do write, and for the gain they make thereby.
PICKTHAL: Therefore woe be unto those who write the Scripture with their hands and then say, “This is from Allah,” that they may purchase a small gain therewith. Woe unto them for that their hands have written, and woe unto them for that they earn thereby.
SHAKIR: Woe, then, to those who write the book with their hands and then say: This is from Allah, so that they may take for it a small price; therefore woe to them for what their hands have written and woe to them for what they earn.

“Of course, not all my conservations in immigrant communities follow this easy pattern. In the wake of 9/11, my meetings with Arab and Pakistani Americans, for example, have a more urgent quality, for the stories of detentions and FBI questioning and hard stares from neighbors have shaken their sense of security and belonging…and that I will stand with them should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.”
-Barack Obama – The Audacity of Hope 2006

Think this explains the FBI “watching” major Dr. Hasan who murdered over 3 dozen, injuring others, at U.S. Military Base Ft. Hood; failing to take any action what so ever; the FBI not even questioning Hasan.

Just as the NY muslim terrorist mosque builders near Ground 0 are unapproachable and do not have to account for anything. These are the political winds in their favor that Obama is committed too.

  11. Melly says:

Well, the mosque is okay in Barry’s book.
Keep in mind, Barry’s book is the Koran.

(Cheese and crackers, I hate that guy)

  12. Melly says:

My intelligent sister just chimed in.
She says of course this country is all about religious tolerance.
But it all has to with the insensitivity of erecting a Mosque so close the Ground Zero.
She said: Why don’t they just build a Volkswagen factory at Auschwitz II-Birkenau.

  13. wirenut says:

Why not a blow-torch factory? MY God! Will this insanity never end? I guess I picked a bad day not to talk with my Wellness- Coordinator. Brandy anyone?

  14. The Redneck says:

Obama and the rest of the left don’t seem to understand that “we’re going to kill you last, because you’re useful” does not mean “You are our friend.”

  15. BigOil says:

Why wouldn’t B Hussein Obama support a mosque at Ground Zero? He is, after all, leader of one of the worlds largest muslim countries.

  16. DW says:

I get kind of a sour kick out of how, over the years, as crosses have been pulled down, the commandments scrubbed from the walls of public buildings and any thoughtful discussion of creation has been outlawed -that the left constantly trumpeted “separation of church and state” as if that was meant solely to protect little children (the few that they didn’t manage to abort) from the evils of Christianity.

Now, suddenly, “separation of church and state” means that the state has no business interfering with religious activity.

Kinda like when Alan Colmes and others of his ilk are saying sarcastically “What? Some people might be offended so we shouldn’t do this?”
Completely forgetting the decision of almost every news agency in the western world to not reprint the notorious Mohammed Cartoons –because it might offend some people.

    Cowards and hypocrites.

  17. canary says:

A “private” religious & business organization that does not allow public access do to Religious & Sexual discrimination – 1. non-believers can not enter a mosque 2. women can not worship with men, and probably not allowed to swim in the pool. It’s a discriminating pool.

Since the mosque violates the constitution & the civil rights of citizens, I would think public commercial zoning would prohibit such an exclusive private establishment, and instead it should be built in the correct zoning for private, not where public taxpayers have to maintain streets or sidewalks.
I think New Yorkers should sue. Imagine if the Statue of Liberty discriminated against who could visit.
Ya know. Reminds me of that horrible AF1 flyover the Statue of Liberty & Mr. Obama using it for a joke at that public party the media were privy too. Obama probably has a pic for a muslim dart board, after all, the Statue of Liberty is a woman with a crown, and that makes it a target of dislike by muslims & disdain by Obama who laughed & joked for days of his airplane circling NYC monuments frightening Americans.

  18. BobonStatenIsland says:

Just watch Obama’s poll numbers continue to drop even faster now. Andrew Cuomo will lose any hope of the NY Governorship with his stated views on this issue as well. Keep it up Dems! They must think only Muslems vote and that Muslems are the majority. I can’t see any other other explaination for these politcians jumping on board of an obvious disaster. You would think they would have learned something from the New York Archdiosis on this one. Although initially taking the same stand, they nixed the sale of the abandoned convent on Staten Island (where I am) to Muslems who planned on builing a mosque out of it and I will bet it was because all the donations at Sunday Mass had dried up completely county wide. Watch the votes dry up in the same fashion (as well as the campaign funds). But I encourage all Democrats to endorse the building of a Mosque in totally inappropriate and offensive locations. The more they talk about this and say how it’s really OK with them, the more seats they lose in November. They are becoming great campaign ads. It really is that simple. Obama’s handlers must cringe whenever he speaks off Teleprompter.

Obama celebrates Ramadan, breaking fast at White House iftar dinner celebrates Ramadan. Obama fails to see muslims do not practice equality, and mistakenly calls “private” mosque a community center.

Businessweek: Obama Says Backing of Right to Build Mosque Not an Endorsement
August 15, 2010, By Julianna Goldman and Kate Andersen Brower

“I was not commenting and I will not comment on the wisdom of making a decision to put a mosque there,” Obama said yesterday in Panama City, Florida, during a trip with his family to the Gulf of Mexico.

Obama addressed the controversy over the center for the first time on Aug. 13 during an annual White House iftar dinner, marking the breaking of the daily fast in the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

White House deputy press secretary Bill Burton said Obama, in making his comments in Florida, “is not backing off in any way” from his statement at the iftar dinner.

“It is not his role as president to pass judgment on every local project,” Burton said in an e-mailed statement….”

“President Obama is wrong,” said King in an e-mailed statement. “The right and moral thing for President Obama to have done was to urge Muslim leaders to respect the families of those who died and move their mosque away from Ground Zero.”

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and City Council Speaker Christine Quinn have supported the project. “I applaud President Obama’s clarion defense of the freedom of religion,” Bloomberg said in an Aug. 13 statement.

“We must all recognize and respect the sensitivities surrounding the development of lower Manhattan,” Obama said on Aug. 13. “I understand the emotions that this issue engenders. Ground Zero is, indeed, hallowed ground.”

Obama’s support was welcomed by the Council on American- Islamic Relations, whose director Nihad Awad expressed the hope that Obama’s remarks “will serve as encouragement to those who are challenging the rising level of Islamophobia in our society.”

“Barack Obama has abandoned America at the place where America’s heart was broken nine years ago, and where her true values were on display for all to see,” Burlingame said in an e-mailed statement.

In Florida yesterday, Obama told reporters that “my intention was simply to let people know what I thought, which was that in this country we treat everybody equally and in accordance with the law, regardless of race, regardless of religion.”

Nationally, 68 percent of Americans said they opposed building the mosque near the World Trade Center site in an Aug. 6-10 poll conducted for CNN.

68% of CNN viewers are against the mosque.
53% of NYC voters are against the mosque & 34% supported its development, according to a Marist College poll.

  21. Seagoat says:

This is a zoning matter not a first amendment concern, no church can be build unless a zoning board approves it, just because we have freedom of religion doesn’t mean you can build wherever you want.

Besides you muhammadudes need to undestand the most importent things is, WE are tired of you who believe in a false profit like muhammadude telling us US we are suppoesed to treat and respect your false religion, but you don.t show any respect for our religion or customs…….

    • canary says:

I couldn’t find any info on zoning, but it was a Burlington Coat factory.

    • canary says:

In my town, People have the right to vote for such rezoning changes, at it appears this is industrial zoned, and I could not find out the buildings next to the mosque either.
Perhaps the muslim radicals known to be aim at the internet have been hacking, but the media sure hasn’t filled in many details.

  22. Seagoat says:

In most if not all cities have a special board or group who make decisions on what can or can’t be built in any given areas of the city or county, in other words if the building in question was a coat factory then at one time it must have been zoned industrial……
