Obama Freed Over 2,000 Illegal Alien Criminals

From an unfazed Associated Press:

DHS freed over 2,000 immigrants since February

By ALICIA A. CALDWELL | March 1, 2013

WASHINGTON — The Homeland Security Department released from its jails more than 2,000 illegal immigrants facing deportation in recent weeks due to looming budget cuts and planned to release 3,000 more during March, The Associated Press has learned.

Where is the outrage? This news was barely been mention by our media guardians over the weekend.

This is nothing short of a backdoor amnesty. Obama’s ‘sequester amnesty.’

The newly disclosed figures, cited in internal budget documents reviewed by the AP, are significantly higher than the "few hundred" illegal immigrants the Obama administration acknowledged this week had been released under the budget-savings process.

The White House lied? What a shock. It turns out that instead of ‘hundreds’ being released, there were ‘thousands.’

The government documents show that Immigrations and Customs Enforcement released roughly 1,000 illegal immigrants from its jails around the U.S. each week since at least Feb. 15.

And yet we are supposed to believe that this order did not come from Janet Napolitano or Obama. We are supposed to believe that this was done by people in the field.

The agency’s field offices have reported more than 2,000 immigrants released before intense criticism this week led to a temporary shutdown of the plan, according to the documents.

Why can’t we get an exact number at the very least? Weren’t we told they are being closely supervised?

The states where immigrants were released include Arizona, California, Georgia and Texas.

The earlier report from the New York Times listed many more locations that that. (The Times reported that "[I]mmigrants’ advocates around the country have reported that detainees were freed in several places, including Hudson County, N.J.; Polk County, Tex.; Broward County, Fla.; New Orleans; and from centers in Alabama, Arizona, Georgia and New York.")

The White House has said it was not consulted about the releases, and Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano has acknowledged they occurred in a manner she regrets.

But no one has been fired and she has no resigned. In fact, Ms. Napolitano only wondered why these people were detained in the first place.

White House spokesman Jay Carney on Wednesday said the government had released "a few hundred" of the roughly 30,000 illegal immigrants held in federal detention pending deportation proceedings. Carney said the immigrants released were "low-risk, noncriminal detainees," and the decision was made by career ICE officials.

In other words, as usual, Mr. Carney lied. Twice.

As of last week, the agency held an average daily population of 30,733 in its jails. The internal budget documents reviewed by the AP show the Obama administration had intended to reduce those figures to 25,748 by March 31.

Which is exactly what the ‘order’ that went out told them to do. As we have previously noted.

The White House did not comment immediately Friday on the higher number of immigrants released.

ICE spokesman Brian Hale said Friday the numbers of immigration detainees fluctuate daily, but he reiterated only several hundred illegal immigrants had been released…

Which is a lie.

The release of thousands from immigration jails is consistent with Napolitano’s early warnings on Monday – hours before anyone knew publicly that any illegal immigrants had been released – that the pending, automatic budget cuts known as the sequester would limit the government’s ability to maintain enough detention center beds for at least 34,000 immigrants.

"We’re doing our very best to minimize the impacts of sequester, but there’s only so much I can do," Napolitano said Monday. "You know, I’m supposed to have 34,000 detention beds for immigration. How do I pay for those?" …

This is yet another lie. ICE has been releasing prisoners since at least February 15th. Long before the sequester went into effect. And even before it was even certain it would occur.

    Not just illegals.

Jay Carney : “low-risk, noncriminal detainees”.

This country desperately needs fewer lies, less poison, and more truth.

All of these Immortal Two Thousand are alien convicts who have served sentences following a State court conviction or sometimes a Federal conviction.

As the sentence nears completion, DHS puts a “hold” on the alien inmate to be released from State or Federal prison to DHS. DHS routinely places the convict in private detention, or pays for county jail space, or places him into a DHS holding facility. There he remains pending hearing before an Immigration Judge.

The alien is then charged by DHS in removal proceedings with a removable offense based on his or her criminal conviction for an aggravated felony or a crime of moral turpitude. The alien appears before an Immigration Judge (in the U.S. Department of Justice) who determines whether the conviction meets the definition of aggravated felony or crime of moral turpitude. In most cases it does.

The DHS has prosecutorial discretion who to hold and who to release. In the past a convict with fewer than three misdemeanor convictions would not get a hold or would at least be released on low bond. Under immigration law a convict imprisoned for an aggravated felony cannot qualify for bond and must be in mandatory detention until his hearing (and then is only released if he wins his case before the IJ and DHS does not appeal).

Therefore, you can bet your sweet bippy that most of the Immortal Two Thousand are felons who have been convicted for aggravated felonies and/or crimes of moral turpitude.

You should not believe for one second that Big Sis and the White House had no hand in this, and that the release decision was made by some faceless bureaucrat-scapegoat in a lower pay grade. For to do so would be to turn a blind eye to the way the regime has micro-managed the immigration agencies over the last four years, during which time no one in the government immigration chain has been allowed to make the most simple, basic, routine call without bucking it up all the way to the top.
