Obama: GOP Tried To "Sneak" In Agenda

From CBS News:

Obama: GOP tried to “sneak” agenda into budget

In what he thought was a private chat with campaign donors Thursday evening, President Obama offered the most revealing behind-the-scenes account to date of his budget negotiations with GOP leaders last week.

CBS Radio News White House correspondent Mark Knoller listened in to an audio feed of Mr. Obama’s conversation with donors after other reporters traveling with the president had left the room.

In the candid remarks, Mr. Obama complains of Republican attempts to attach measures to the budget bill which would have effectively killed parts of his hard-won health care reform program.

“I said, ‘You want to repeal health care? Go at it. We’ll have that debate. You’re not going to be able to do that by nickel-and-diming me in the budget. You think we’re stupid?'” recalled the president of his closed-door negotiations on the bill to fund the federal government until September

Have you ever seen such unbridled arrogance? Such contempt for opposing views? — What don’t we have a national referendum on abortion? Let’s see how that would turn out.

Mr. Obama said he told House Speaker John Boehner and members of his staff that he’d spent a year and a half getting the sweeping health care legislation passed — paying “significant political costs” along the way — and wouldn’t let them undo it in a six-month spending bill

What “political costs” has Obama paid? Indeed, when has Obama ever paid any costs for anything?

Speaking into a microphone which he may not have realized was still relaying his remarks to the White House press room — where Knoller had been listening to earlier remarks that were open to the press — Mr. Obama bemoaned GOP leaders’ attempts to attach a measure to the budget bill which would have cut funding for Planned Parenthood.

“Put it in a separate bill,” the president said he told Boehner and his staff. “We’ll call it up. And if you think you can overturn my veto, try it. But don’t try to sneak this through.”

Yes, this was a brazen attempt to “sneak this through.” There was no press about it at all. Unlike, say, votes on Obama-care taken at midnight on Christmas Eve. Or ramming Obama-care through Congress by using the (illegal) maneuver of ‘budget reconciliation.

The president told his backers Thursday night that he expects Republicans to continue using that process to enact their political agenda under the guise of cutting spending.

As opposed to Mr. Obama’s approach, which is nothing but agenda.

He specifically called into question the sincerity of Budget Committee Chairman Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), who crafted the House GOP’s controversial 2012 budget which includes significant and controversial cuts to Medicare and Medicaid.

“When Paul Ryan says his priority is to make sure, he’s just being America’s accountant … This is the same guy that voted for two wars that were unpaid for, voted for the Bush tax cuts that were unpaid for, voted for the prescription drug bill that cost as much as my health care bill — but wasn’t paid for,” Mr. Obama told his supporters. “So it’s not on the level.”

Remember how Mr. Obama always says he is open to suggestions? But when somebody actually offers a suggestion, he is told to shut up and sit down. He is mocked and lied about at every turn. In fact, Obama talks about Paul Ryan “like a dog.”

Mind you, Mr. Obama says we all need to come together to work this out. But he doesn’t want dialogue. He wants monologue — his. And lots of it.

By the way, in Mr. Obama’s long and storied career as a US Senator he voted for every spending increase that was proposed. He also voted to fund all of the wars he mentioned. But never mind all that.

Mr. Obama is in campaign mode. Which means he is going to lie and insult anyone else with a differing opinion even more than usual.

“But he doesn’t want dialogue. He wants monologue — his. And lots of it.”

Steve, you nailed it. He deeply covets the powers of dictatorship. Here’s something else he said, quoting from Rush Limbaugh’s site: http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/home/daily/site_041211/content/01125113.guest.html

…and a little girl said, “What was the hardest challenge you had to overcome to become president, or being president?”

OBAMA: “Being President? The hardest thing is that this is such a big country, with so many different kinds of people, and everybody has different ideas. And so even if you have a pretty clear sense of what you want to do on the budget, or on health care, or on foreign policy, there are gonna be, you know, half the country may disagree with you. It would be easier if I could just say, “Well here’s what I think is the best thing to do” and I could just do it. But I’ve got this thing called Congress, and they’re elected to make sure that your opinions when you vote for members of Congress that their opinions are expressed. You’ve got the Judiciary that says, “Well we’ve got this Constitution and this is how we should do things.”

He truly desires to be autocratic because he knows he’s right. After all, he’s never been told he’s wrong and it’s gone on so long that anyone who indicates he’s in error is categorically his enemy and a racist. It’s the very foundation of his existence, even if he didn’t create it. But that simply points to another critical flaw in his narcissistic character: That he cannot recognize his own shortcomings.

This is a genuine sickness we’re seeing, Selfless Narcissism, where the individual believes they’re so omnipotent and benign that it’s unthinkable that anyone should challenge them. It can become malignant. People then are to be punished severely for their presumption.

Call me cynical, but I don’t believe this was a ‘candid’ moment at all. This article was published to fire up the liberals who thought the GOP gained too much in the budget deal, and that Obama wasn’t ‘fighting’ hard enough. CBS was told exactly what to report, and of course they’re honored to participate.

I suspect that in truly private conversations, Mr. Obama’s language is much different.

    • platypus says:

      yep, yer cynical all right.

And what’s worse is that there is more we didn’t see/hear.

Red meat for the lib base. If he’s that unsure about his base this far out, 2012 is going to be a VERY good year for us peasants.

  3. tranquil.night says:

    “You think we’re stupid?”

Gee, where have I heard this asked before. Oh maybe it’s because the taxpayers ask it of you everyday, sir. What – you think you’re brilliant because you can tell a bald-face lie without flinching? Your type are a dime a dozen.

To quote Forrest Gump – actually Mama Gump – “stupid is as stupid does.”

So I’m going to say a solid “Yes,” for starters because it appears you can’t even talk without stealing your opponents’ quips and retorts. You’re so dumb you can’t even talk with your own voice, from your own mind.

Everything you say and do is a lie, ‘sneak’ or scam, usually calculated by someone else first. So yes, you aren’t just stupid, you’re a useful idiot.

I must have missed the vote on bombing the tar outta Libya

Kurtz: Did they say why, Willard, why they want to terminate my command?

Willard: I was sent on a classified mission, sir.

Kurtz: It’s no longer classified, is it? Did they tell you?

Willard: They told me that you had gone totally insane, and that your methods were unsound.

    Kurtz: Are my methods unsound?

Willard: I don’t see any method at all, sir.

    Egypt’s Secret torture chamber.
Did the Muslim Youth believe the Muslim Brotherhood were good stupid muslims. Are the muslim youth stupid and not realize the 8 story underground compound was a place for their religious “severe punishment” according to the koran.
Mubarak was a sunni. The Muslim Brotherhood is sunni.
With 40% of the vote headed their way, the MB way they will do the same as Mubarak and make sure they win. After all there are 2 purposes of Islam. Die a martyr killing evil doers or live to die a martyr for the one.

Meanwhile Afghan’s slaughtering Karzai’s right hand police chiefs and military, suicide bombers blowing up the police stations and army bases, as our troops rush to rebuild them. I’d say their going after Karzai, and his days are numbered. The muslims want total chaos before the date Obama keeps announcing our troops are leaving.
We’ve had Hillary say Obama was mistaken. We have army brass saying not until 2014, but Obama just keeps announcing differently.

  7. Mithrandir says:

Again, whatever they are guilty of, they will project it onto Republicans. You have to have a careful ear for those things.

These are the scammers who have no rules “We make ’em up……as we go along” and the people who want to DEEM laws passed, who bend or break rules, to do whatever they want, yet Republicans are held to impossible standards.

These people are truly doing the devil’s work. No question about it.
