Obama Got Elected Throwing Out Names

With ACORN’s rampant signature collection fraud so much in the news, we should pause to remember that not only did Obama get elected to his first political office thanks to them, but he ran unopposed because of getting his opponents taken off the ballot — because of phony signatures.

The case of Alice Palmer, via Wikipedia is as good as any angle to approach this:

Alice Palmer (Illinois politician)

Alice J. Palmer (born June 20, 1939 in Indianapolis, Indiana) is a former Democratic State Senator from Illinois, representing the state’s 13th District. Dr. Palmer was the founding executive director of Chicago Cities in Schools and creator and founding director of the Chicago Metropolitan YMCA Youth and Government Program.

In 1994 Mel Reynolds, member of U.S. House of Representatives for Illinois’s 2nd congressional district, was indicted for a sexual relationship with an underage campaign volunteer. Palmer filed for the Democratic nomination to his seat but finished third in a special election held November 1995, which was won by Jesse Jackson, Jr. She had, with a degree of formality that is disputed, anointed Barack Obama as her chosen successor in the State Senate, but after her defeat she filed to retain the Democratic nomination for the 13th District. Obama was able, however, to successfully challenge enough signatures to disqualify not only the incumbent but the other three candidates for the Democratic nomination as well, which he won unopposed.

Obama himself has said that the challenges were necessitated by what he called obvious flaws in the challengers’ signature sheets. “To my mind, we were just abiding by the rules that had been set up,” he said in a 2007 interview with the Chicago Tribune. When asked if voters were not disserviced by a ballot with no opposing candidates, Obama said “I think they ended up with a very good state senator.”

Palmer endorsed Hillary Clinton for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2008.

Or, as this article from the New Republic puts it:

The Agitator

Barack Obama’s unlikely political education.

Ryan Lizza,  The New Republic  Published: Monday, March 19, 2007

Obama initially planned to inherit the seat of a much-admired incumbent named Alice Palmer, a fixture in South Side activist circles since the ’60s. Palmer had opted to run for Congress, clearing the way for Obama to replace her, but, when she lost the primary, she decided she wanted to keep her old Senate seat, after all.

Obama was faced with a decision: step aside and wait his turn or do everything he could to take down a popular incumbent. In one meeting, an old guard of black political leaders tried to force Obama to abandon the race, but he wouldn’t budge. Instead of deferring to Palmer’s seniority, Obama challenged the very legitimacy of her petitions to get on the ballot, dispatching aides to the Chicago Board of Elections to scour Palmer’s filing papers, and, while they were at it, every other candidate’s, signature by signature. Many were fake. Obama won the challenge and cleared not just Palmer but all his potential rivals from the field.

Mind you, he did this to a person who had anointed him as her successor (in the Chicago fashion). What a sweetheart.

As we posted previously, ACORN is proud of how they got Mr. Obama elected to the Illinois State Senate:

Since then, we have invited Obama to our leadership training sessions to run the session on power every year, and, as a result, many of our newly developing leaders got to know him before he ever ran for office. Thus, it was natural for many of us to be active volunteers in his first campaign for State Senate…

As it turned out, Obama won the primary handily, pulling white wards as well as African American. But no one knew that that would be the case. In each election we must act as if our work is critical for our communities. That is what we did in the primary, and we learned something in the process.

Toni Foulkes is a Chicago ACORN leader and a member of ACORN’s National Association Board.

He “won the primary handily” because he was unopposed.

Thus we see how ACORN giveth for him — and also how it taketh away.

This is really rich. He accused his opponents of voter fraud, at the same time he was using ACORN to push his own vote totals up.

Report: Voter purges in 6 states may violate law
    Thu Oct 9, 2008

NEW YORK – Tens of thousands of eligible voters have been removed from rolls or blocked from registering in at least six swing states, and the voters’ exclusion appears to violate federal law, according to a published report.

The New York Times based its findings on reviews of state records and Social Security data.

The Times said voters appear to have been purged by mistake and not because of any intentional violations by election officials or coordinated efforts by any party.

States have been trying to follow the Help America Vote Act of 2002 by removing the names of voters who should no longer be listed. But for every voter added to the rolls in the past two months in some states, election officials have removed two, a review of the records shows.

The newspaper said it identified apparent problems in Colorado, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, Nevada and North Carolina. It says some states are improperly using Social Security data to verify new voters’ registration applications, and others may have broken rules that govern removing voters from the rolls within 90 days of a federal election.

Democrats have been more aggressive at registering new voters this year, according to state election officials, so any closer screening of new applications may affect their party’s supporters disproportionately, the Times said.

The result is that on Election Day, voters who have been removed from the rolls could show up and be challenged by political party officials or election workers.

The six states seem to have violated federal law in two ways. Some are removing voters from the rolls within 90 days of a federal election, which is not allowed except when voters die, notify the authorities that they have moved out of state, or have been declared unfit to vote.

And some of the states are improperly using Social Security data to verify registration applications for new voters, the newspaper reported.

“Just as voting machines were the major issue that came out of the 2000 presidential election and provisional ballots were the big issue from 2004, voter registration and these statewide lists will be the top concern this year,” said Daniel P. Tokaji, a law professor at Ohio State University.

Should we petition the U.N. to send in election observers and the Blue Helmets at the same time?

So we have voting “irregularities” in store for November as well as threats of riots and violence. Sounds a lot like Zimbabwe to me.

This is the lowest point so far, U.S. in the same league as Zimbabwe (or Kenya for that matter).

the thing that steams me the most is that the left isnt even trying to hide it~! They are breaking Federal law right in front of everyone, and for some reason, nobody can do anything about it until November 5th! Why arent the authorities arresting the people who are clearly violating the law? It’s a good question that the people in charge cant or wont answer! This is beyond hubris….this is outright criminal! And not one soul lifts a finger to stop it? WTF??????????

Just saw a good McCain web ad on Ayers/Obama connection.

    Here it is:

This is pretty good stuff. It’s 1.40 minutes, too long for TV but Obama’s been running 2 minute ads in Philly.

Barry-HO will do whatever it takes to give America the greatest gift he can bestow, the gift of himself. What a pompous, arrogant, self-obsessed, racist jackass we have in Barack Hussein Obama.

If his middle name is offensive to you, feel free to substitute the English translation of Hussein: “I Hate Whitey” or “Kill, Kill, Kill the white man” depending on the dialect.
