Obama Has Been Distracted By ‘Phony Scandals’

From The Hill:

Obama dismisses scandals as ‘phony’

By Justin Sink | July 24, 2013

President Obama on Wednesday dismissed a series of controversies dogging his administration as “phony” in remarks that represented a clear shift in White House tactics.

“With an endless parade of distractions, political posturing and phony scandals, Washington has taken its eye off the ball,” Obama said in an economic address at Knox College in Galesburg, Ill.

So Obama hasn’t been able to fix the economy because he was focused on ‘phony scandals’? Is he that easily duped? Hoodwinked? If so, what does that say about him as a leader?

Obama’s comments marked an inflection point in the way the administration has been dealing with a raft of controversies, many of which the White House has previously suggested were substantive.

Obama on Wednesday did not specify which controversies were “phony,” but the administration has been attacked over National Security Agency surveillance programs leaked to the public, the IRS’s targeting of conservative groups, the Department of Justice’s seizing of media phone records, and last year’s attack on the U.S. mission in Benghazi, Libya.

So we are supposed to believe that Fast & Furious, Benghazi and the IRS’s targeting of the Tea Party, the DOJ’s seizing of news media phone records, NSA data-mining of millions of American phone records — those are all phony scandals. But the Republican’s ‘War On Women’ is real.

By the way, didn’t Obama make a solemn pledge to the families who lost loved ones in Benghazi that he would get to the bottom of it? Why didn’t he tell them it was a phony scandal?

Also, didn’t Obama say that the IRS scandal was outrageous, and could not be permitted, and he would get to the bottom of that, too? Was he lying then, or is he lying now?

While the White House has repeatedly accused Republicans of seeking to gin up a controversy surrounding the Sept. 11, 2012, terrorist attack in Benghazi, it had not described the other issues previously as phony.

No, Obama used to just call Benghazi a ‘bump in the road.’ And, of course, our Secretary Of State wondered, "What difference does it make now?"

The president in Galesburg said the GOP’s focus on scandals “needs to stop.” “Short-term thinking and stale debates are not what this moment requires,” he said.

What could be more "stale" than Obama’s latest economic plan?

Still, let’s pretend for a moment that this is true. Wouldn’t the best way to expose all these scandals as phony be to allow full investigations and hearings?

Instead, we have had members of the Obama administration stonewall, take the fifth, and even outright lie to Congress. And even the witnesses to Benghazi has been ordered to clam up.

Which seems like a lot of trouble to go through for scandals that are supposed to be phony.

  1. Petronius says:

The assassination of Roman ambassadors was regarded as casus belli (cause for acts of war) and would be followed by a Roman invasion and conquest.

In 168 BC, Gentius, last king of Illyria, imprisoned two Roman ambassadors. The Romans sent Lucius Anicius Gallus with a fleet, two legions and 10,000 auxiliaries, and, in less than 30 days, he defeated Gentius at Scodra and freed the Roman prisoners. The country was conquered, occupied, garrisoned, and rebellious cities were looted and made to pay tribute. Eventually it became a Roman province. Gentius and the royal family were sent to Rome where Anicius was given a triumph in which Gentius was paraded before being thrown into prison. In 160 BC Anicius was elected consul.

If local terrorists had somehow managed to kill a Roman legate, advance elements of the Roman Army would have arrived in short order and begun rounding up the terrorists, who, along with the other male members of the tribe, would have been crucified, and their women and children sold into slavery. Their tribal lands would then be parceled out and resettled by Roman veterans and the country turned into a prosperous and peaceful Roman colonia. The Senate would honor the ambassador’s memory by erecting his statue on the Rostra.

Our dear leader, on the other hand, showers the terrorists with money and weapons, apologizes to them at the UN for “a hateful video” made by a “shadowy character” that poked fun at their god, and then for good measure calls the whole episode a “phony scandal.”

    How utterly pathetic.

Just logged on and the first thing on the page I see, is obama hosting the Ram-a-lam-a-ding-dong dinner.
“Birds of a Feather”and “Should the political winds change” quote entered my thoughts as I pressed the delete key. Scandal is, he agrees the muslim brotherhood is a peaceful organization and has a warped sense of what is the most beautiful sound in the the world. To me it isn’t the call to prayer among the missle shaped spires of the mosques, it’s the cry of a newborn child and that sound being silenced by a scalpel of an abortion doctor with obama’s blessing is by far a scandal those that voted for this monster is one they should never live down.
