This is the classic Hitlerian "Big Lie". Hitler told us that little lies don't work because people see through them. But outrageous lies work because people simply can't believe their leaders can possible be so devious.

The truth is that Universal Health Scare will be the death knell of small business. The killer provision is that small businesses will have to pay an 8% fine if their employees opt into the "public option", which they will do overwhelmingly because it will be "free". Most small businesses will then have the expense of providing private health care, which they will do so in a desperate attempt to forestall bankruptcy, at a cost of around 5% ofrevenue (or more), and then be slapped with another 8% on top of that. Hello bankuptcy.

Small business, you see, are very difficult for the government to control. They are scurrying around in dozens of different directions looking for economic opportunities. There are just too many of them for the beaurocrats to keep up with. Big-time Facists always prefer Big Business, which are so much easier to bully around and extort wealth from. The protection racket for Big Business only requires a handful of commissars, thus preserving wealth for the lords by reducing the beaurocratic overhead.

I agree with your stories of medical and health triumph which are directly due to the health care system in America - why fix what isn't broken?

But here is what gets me - you all seemed to be misdiagnosed and had to fight or beat the system to get a diagnosis (which you did) - and my Dr. seems to want to find sickness and disease where there is none. Is that because he is being <del>financed</del> paid by the government and/or is that what is going to become the norm? Attempting to run, control and dose your life, whether there are symptoms or disease or not? If that is where America is headed - that is just one more reason I do not want even more Government care. And it is why I am only down to getting a refill from my Dr, I do not care to hear the drivel of how I'm going to die tomorrow as some number is 'high' and I'm not taking the medication - hello, it's tomorrow and I'm not dead. (and oh by the way, the 'high' numbers are going down on their own, thank you very much).

What a bunch of bs - the point being is that Americans can and do still have the best health care system that is going in the World - why drag it down to the lowest common denominator?

And yes, the AARP should be a shamed for their participation in this scam as well as the fight against fixing SS during Bush. But I sent them packing when they contacted me when I turned 50 - Dear Mr. Ward - told them that it is sexist and old-fashioned to assume that the oldest member of the household is male and thus they would not ever receive a membership or dime from this household. Petty, yes but non-the-less important to us.

The AARP, like the (illegal alien supporting) Unions, like the Klownposse in DC are no longer about championing the people they claim to champion, no longer about doing the right thing - it is all about having a 'seat at the table' and POWER.

Damn their lying, turn coat hides.

Long lines leading to the Zyclon-B showers!

I passed this on to a relative who runs a small business.

That was a few hours ago and he still hasn't stopped alternately laughing and fuming about the comment.

Once again <b>He</b> pronounces what will "help" small business without ever having so much as run a lemonade stand as a kid.

Small business will deal with this the same way they're going to deal with everything from higher taxes to the higher minimum wage - by shedding employees (the current economy certainly won't allow them to raise prices.)

It's amazing that so many who hate HMOs support the ultimate, Government-run one.

The way to paint this to everyone you talk to is to simply say, in black-and-white:

At present, you get care and have to worry about how to pay for it.

Under Obama's plan, you won't get the care, <b>period</b>.

We joke about the DMV. But all humor has a basis in reality. My wife tried to add her middle initial to her driver license twice, DMV just couldn't get it done. My wife gave up.

Medicare is running out of money and we want the government to run more things like S-CHIP, Medicaid, and Medicare. Maybe the filthy wing of Walter Reed is still available for civilians.

I'm 65 and diabetic and maybe I can fade away gracefully before I get an ulcer over Obama's crap and tirades.

BP: I had a similar experience. Doctor originally said it was just some swelling. A few weeks later they ran some tests and it was cancer. Quick surgery, radiation, and I'm alive nine years later. In Canada, I might have waited months or more for tests and/or treatments - allowing it to spread and possibly kill me. We have the world's best heathcare - and we have to get the government out of the way. Or not in any further.

Catie, You wouldn't believe the crap I get when liberals find out I am also a cancer survivor. (I had cancer in my 20s, which is why I was blocked from entering the military for so long and had to go in as someone in his late 30s under an age waiver.)

Liberals say, "well don't you think everyone deserves to live just as you did? That's why you should support universal health care."

I try to explain that if I had lived in Canada I probably would have died. I also try to explain that their assumptions are wrong anyway, because if I was jobless I could have gone on Medicaid and gotten the state to help me out with catastrophic care. If I had lived in Canada, in fact, I probably would have been put on a waiting list and the tumor might have metastasized, causing even more damage and possibly death.

As it turns out, I was living in the United States and had an HMO that misdiagnosed the tumor as a "harmless swelling." I switched health care plans on January 1, 1998, after a year of struggling with the painful growth. On January 12, 1998, I saw a new doctor, who took a simple blood test and confirmed that afternoon that I had tumor markers 915 times above normal levels. On January 18, I had the tumor removed. It was a lousy hospital, but they got the tumor out and had me under observation. Three months later I had massive abdominal surgery to remove at-risk lymph nodes. I did not have to have chemo or radiation therapy, thank God.

If I had lived in Canada, there is no way I could have changed plans. I could not have gotten in to see a specialist in 11 days. I would not have gotten the tumor marker test back the same day. I would not have been able to get in for surgery in six days.

In other words, if I had lived in Canada, my tumor would have metastasized and spread to my lungs and possibly other lymph nodes in my abdomen. I would have had to go through chemo and/or radiation therapy -- if I survived. I probably would have been so seriously affected by the downturn in my health, I would not have been able to react to my illness the way I did, as an American -- by enrolling in a local graduate program, eventually getting my PhD, becoming a professor, and later, going back and finally serving in the armed forces after proudly conquering cancer. If I were Canadian, the long waiting lists, limited access to doctors, shortage of follow-up care, etc., would have made my conquest over cancer either impossible or much less triumphant. And in Canada, it is not so easy to go back to grad school close to the cancer treatment center where you're stuck; here in America, there are so many colleges and so many options to continue your schooling late in life.

When I explain all this to liberals who want universal health care, all they seem to believe is that somehow I got lucky because I am not "poor" and therefore have benefited from a system based on inequality. They don't understand that I had medical care in 1997 because I had worked hard since my teen years and built up a work history to get a job with health insurance. They don't understand that I make sacrifices in order to have health, and do my best to take care of myself, but the American system responds to these basic measures of self-reliance by helping you out.

They just don't get it.

My lunatic of a mother in law (really, she is a lunatic-her own children can't stand her) is in the tank for this loser of a CIC and she's also a breast cancer survivor. I told her if it comes back, she'll have to do the patriotic thing and die as will her granddaughter with autism and Down syndrome. I told her that if this comes in, my daughter does not get the care she deserves her death will be on her hands and I will blame her and everyone else who voted for this a$$. She remarked as she has done in the past that she should not have been born to begin with or since she was, she should have just been made comfortable after birth until she died instead of going to MCV for a month. I think about some of our friends who died by accident, or the war and wonder why she was allowed to survive. I know that is a terrible thing to say but I cannot help it.
AARP has been nothing but a front for the democraptic party for a long time. Years ago my parents joined (when it first came out) and quit shortly thereafter-no discounts were worth that nonsense.
It is unfortunate that none of the obama's, biden's or the mother in law, will have to be on this coverage. Oddly enough a neighbor whose husband works for the government and who voted for this jerk said she hoped they got to keep their insurance. I told her that all those who voted for obama should live with the consequences of their actions, why should they get to keep their great coverage. She didn't have anything to say.

It is unfortunate that none of the obama’s, biden’s or the mother in law, will have to be on this coverage. Oddly enough a neighbor whose husband works for the government and who voted for this jerk said she hoped they got to keep their insurance. I told her that all those who voted for obama should live with the consequences of their actions, why should they get to keep their great coverage. She didn’t have anything to say.

VMAN, it's not TOTUS' fault. It just mindlessly does what most Congressional and Senate dems do: repeat the propaganda they're programmed with or fed, and hope "we the people" accept it as fact if we hear it enough.

I stopped listening in January.

(Sorry Steve, second password reset worked)

dulcimergrl,

That's the same question I asked about AARP. Apparently, they traded their support of Obamacare for a "position at the table." Here's a recent article to show that their interest in profits for the "insurance arm" overweighs their interest in quality of care for seniors:

Nice time for the seniors to find this out, don't you think?
