Obama: I Won – Don’t Listen To Limbaugh

At first we were tempted to just let these items pass.

But they really do demonstrate the hollowness of the promises from Mr. Obama about setting a “new tone” of “post-partisan” “unity.”

First there is this from the Wall Street Journal:

Obama to GOP: ‘I Won’

January 23, 2009

Jonathan Weisman reports on the White House.

The top congressional leaders from both parties gathered at the White House for a working discussion over the shape and size of President Barack Obama’s economic stimulus plan. The meeting was designed to promote bipartisanship.

But Obama showed that in an ideological debate, he’s not averse to using a jab.

Challenged by one Republican senator over the contents of the package, the new president, according to participants, replied: “I won.”

The statement was prompted by Senate Minority Whip Jon Kyl of Arizona, who challenged the president and the Democratic leaders over the balance between the package’s spending and tax cuts, bringing up the traditional Republican notion that a tax credit for people who do not earn enough to pay income taxes is not a tax cut but a government check.

Obama noted that such workers pay Social Security and Medicare taxes, property taxes and sales taxes. The issue was widely debated during the presidential campaign, when Sen. John McCain, the Republican nominee, challenged Obama’s tax plan as “welfare.”

With those two words — “I won” — the Democratic president let the Republicans know that debate has been put to rest Nov. 4.

Democratic and Republican aides confirmed the exchange. A White House spokesman said he wasn’t immediately aware of the exchange…

[O]ther Democrats echoed the sentiment. As he left the White House, House Majority Whip James Clyburn of South Carolina was asked about Republican complaints that Democrats aren’t listening to what their GOP colleagues have to say. “We’re responding to the American people,” he said. “The American people didn’t listen to them too well during the election.”

Then this from the New York Post:

January 23, 2009 — WASHINGTON — President Obama warned Republicans on Capitol Hill today that they need to quit listening to radio king Rush Limbaugh if they want to get along with Democrats and the new administration.

"You can’t just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done," he told top GOP leaders, whom he had invited to the White House to discuss his nearly $1 trillion stimulus package.

One White House official confirmed the comment but said he was simply trying to make a larger point about bipartisan efforts.

"There are big things that unify Republicans and Democrats," the official said. "We shouldn’t let partisan politics derail what are very important things that need to get done." …

How soon before he starts wearing a red shirt like Hugo Chavez?

(Of course he is already wearing it on his heart.)

So the leader of the most powerful nation on the planet feels threatened by a radio talk show host?

    From the New York Post:

    By Charles Hurt

WASHINGTON — President Obama warned Republicans on Capitol Hill today that they need to quit listening to radio king Rush Limbaugh if they want to get along with Democrats and the new administration. …

That wasn’t Obama’s only jab at Republicans today.

In an exchange with Rep. Eric Cantor (R-Va.) about the proposal, the president shot back: “I won,” according to aides briefed on the meeting.

“I will trump you on that.” …

Republicans say the $825 billion price tag is too big a burden for a nation crippled by debt and that it doesn’t do enough to stimulate the economy by cutting taxes.

“You know, I’m concerned about the size of the package. And I’m concerned about some of the spending that’s in there, [about] … how you can spend hundreds of millions on contraceptives,” House GOP Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) later said.

“How does that stimulate the economy?” …

That’s just it, Herr President. The GOP leaders are listening to Rush because they don’t want to get along with you and your policies that are doomed to not only fail but make the economic situation worse because you’re turning the Dollar into toilet paper by spending $1 trillion the Government doesn’t have largely for pork.

Yes, the age of dissent being patriotic is long gone; Obama has stated “I won” and that the Republicans must submit to his will.

I say once again, could you possibly imagine a Republican President doing the same thing? The heads of every reporter in the country would explode simultaneously.

    • Dangerous says:

Hooray for the new, non-partisan, post-racial, cooperative administration, eh?

“Don’t vote against me,” “Don’t listen to radio shows I don’t like.” What’s next? “Don’t wear the colour blue” or “Stop that, or I’ll call George Soros?”

    • BigOil says:

“how you can spend hundreds of millions on contraceptives”

Seems quite appropriate. This bill is, after all, the largest stimulation package in human history.

    • proreason says:

“the president shot back: “I won,”

We are under the dominion of children.

      Stupid children.

    • Liberals Demise says:

Sounds to me that he listens to the Fuzzball. I’ll bet he subscribes to the Limbaugh Letter!!
“If conservatives don’t stop listening to El Rushbo, I’m gonna take my toys back and go home”. What gall the Houseboy has. Nana nana naaaaaa na!!

    • Reality Bytes says:

      “I Won!”

It isn’t about you, Mr. President. You need to get over yourself. It isn’t about you.”

PS: “Republicans need to stop listening to Rush Limbaugh”

As an American who actually has relatives who lived under Hitler, this is strikingly familiar. What’s next, the Obama Youth. Oh, wait, there already recruiting.

    • 1laidbackRN says:

I love his idea of bipartisanship. “We will work together as long as you do exactly what I want.” “I won”, jeez Louis, what have we gotten ourselves into?

    • jobeth says:

Of course the repubs shouldn’t listen to Rush! We don’t want to confuse the truth with “Os” propaganda! I mean, those pesky Repubs just won’t walk the socialist “party line” if they are confused with truth.

      Bad Rush….Bad….

    • Barbie says:

WOW! Obama has such impressive leadership skills and such a professional demeanor (heavy sarcasm). So – the beloved and adored and worshipped and super hero leader of the free world is scared of the big bad Rush-wolf – TIME OUT FOR YOU, MR. LIMBAUGH… oh oh, Obama’s gonna tell Michelle and Michelle’s gonna beat up Rush… PATHETIC. God help us. Seriously, God help us.

    • Odie44 says:

In conjunction with all of the above comments – the true audacity and stupidity of Bambi to think GOP lawmakers, who have been elected, are successful in business and actually have a brain – are simply “Rush Bots” and have a constituency, career and quest to be, act and vote as they see fit is childish on all levels.

Sounds more like Kos talking points that you hear and see from liberal trolls cruising the blogesphere.

This could not only be the greatest mistake ever in the history of Presidential elections – but the worst “100 hours” of any President to date.

    • gipper says:

I am so sick of this “reach-across-the-aisle” attitude in Washington. Every time a politician mentions this, he or she is trying to conjure up a picture of harmony and compromise. Well, you can’t compromise morality and standards!

Also, inaction is sometimes the best course.

  2. RightWinger says:

Barry has to show everybody he really isn’t the 10 year old boy trapped in a man’s body that everybody thinks he is. He just declared war on Rush too!

  3. 1laidbackRN says:

Failure to listen seems to be an ongoing theme with liberals.

    • 1sttofight says:

      Failure is all they know.

    • JohnMG says:

      January 24, 2009 at 8:34 am

…..”Failure to listen seems to be an ongoing theme with liberals…..”

This post stood from Saturday morning until beyond noon today. It seems a perfect exclamation point for all the posts preceeding it.

In fact, it is probably the perfect summation to every event and forthcoming proclamation of the next four years.

    • take_no_prisoners says:

Dimmocrits always seem to get things ass-backwards! (That is, after all, their party symbol) They seem to believe that “The means justify the end.”

    • Liberals Demise says:

      Failure……..and finger pointing and LYING!!

    • jobeth says:

      @ LD

      “and finger pointing”

Ya know, I noticed that too. Bet all you red blooded American types out there have a finger selected for them too! ; – D

  4. AuntieAM says:

    “Challenged by one Republican senator…”

Who, I might add, also “won” (or else he wouldn’t be a senator) and deserves the same respect you are demanding for yourself, you arrogant twit.

  5. Anonymoose says:

Two things really pop out at me:

First is the all-too-common pigeonholing of anyone disagreeing with the Liberals/Dems. I don’t listen to Rush, but I get accused of being a “fan” all the time, and I imagine most lawmakers don’t listen to him either. What’s next, telling them how bitter they are?

Second, Obama didn’t repudiate the argument. Someone making so little they don’t qualify for income taxes is paying almost nothing for Social Security and Medicare. If the tax “cut” ends up giving them more money than this tiny amount then it is a government check. Rather than explain how it isn’t he just said “I won”, which shows what an arrogant piece of work this guy is going to be.

    • 1sttofight says:

Duh1 won the office, not the country.

    • Liberals Demise says:

      Roger that!

    • JohnMG says:

Anonymoose; …..”which shows what an arrogant piece of work this guy is….”

Allow me to edit; ………”which shows what an arrogant piece of shit this guy is….”

    • proreason says:

      Good point Anon.

But also notice the “I won” and “I will trump you” comments.

His party didn’t win. Democrats didn’t win. A philosophy didn’t win. The country didn’t win. HE won.

It’s all about HIM, all the time.

I’m not optimistic about the situation, but such overwhelming arrogance could be the Achilles heel that brings this satanic buffoon in.

  6. VMAN says:

What’s going to happen when a major world leader disagrees with him? Is he going to tell the rest of the world not to listen to him?

  7. David says:

Audacity! He “won” by running on a campaign completely devoid of depth on any meaningful issue. Yet when a real issue rolls around he thinks he can claim a mandate!
The republican with balls in the room should have said:
“With all do respect, Mr. President, you did win the votes of the majority of this country but some of us feel it is important to represent the needs, dreams and aspirations of the minority!”

  8. Confucius says:

Bush won in 2000 and 2004, and look how the Democrats behaved.

So, maybe we shouldn’t debate. Maybe we should do like they did–i.e. demonstrate, march, throw food, investigate and sue. Maybe this is the language they understand better.

  9. Confucius says:

I pray for the day when Obama goes back, goes home, gets mellow or does right.

  10. grits says:

It’s embarrassing. Even in my dread of this administration I never considered this possibility.

We have a President who makes Bill Clinton look like a class act.

  11. 12 Gauge Rage says:

It’s called freedom of speech Mr. President. If you don’t know where to find it just look in the Bill of Rights. It’s the first one listed. And while I don’t always agree with everything El Rushbo says, I do enjoy listening to him and reading his website. To be blunt Mr. President, we’ll listen and read whomever the hell we please because it’s our right, not a privilege to be taken away on a political whim. And besides, the Maha Rushie was on the airwaves long before you had aspirations of politics and long after you’ve left public office he’ll still be there behind the golden microphone doing his job.

  12. ThreeBus says:

I don’t remember GWB telling everyone to stop watching PMSNBC.

  13. 12 Gauge Rage says:

ThreeBus, I agree. Although I do remember him calling reporter Adam Clymer a major league ***hole. Which is still rather tame when I recall the names my late father used to call reporters. Personally I think that when Obama is reiterating that he won and for us to stop listening to Rush, in essence he’s telling all conservatives to **** off and die (FOAD).

    • JohnMG says:

When Bush made that comment about Clymer, he wasn’t on the record–it was a muttered comment that was inadvertently picked up off-mike, and much was made of it by the MSM trying to hurt Bush.

Obama shot himself in the foot here with his arrogance. He was/is very much in control of what will be reported, and he knows the press is predisposed to be favorable to him. Make no mistake about this incident. It was meant to be a smack-down. It was his “Go ahead–make my day” moment. A declaration that he will not tolerate unfavorable reporting concerning himself–all the more reason to distrust him. He’ll make the Clinton’s look like inept fools when it comes to manipulating the media.

Prepare for the “Fairness Doctrine” times two!

  14. U NO HOO says:

I just saw a clip wherein Obama says we’ll save 2 billion dollars, if we will just spend a trillion.

    OK, I’m exagerating.

Bye the bye, do Mohamadans practice artificial contraception and abortion?

Obama just signed an executive order funding contraception and abortion.

Amjerk Inadinnerjacket is going to say, “You got lotta splain to do Barack,” when they sit down to talk in Teheran.

May we live in interesting times.

  15. cjokry says:

Pretty full of confidence for a guy with no real mandate. But I guess when you’ve got the white house for four years and your party has both houses time seems to stand still and no remark can be too uncouth.

He may as well firmly tell the other party to shut up: they’ve got no political clout and the msm are Obama’s personal cheerleading squad, so all they can really do is take up time by presenting an alternate opinion in congressional sessions – a viewpoint nobody will ever hear unless they watch C-SPAN or listen to Rush Limbaugh.

    • U NO HOO says:

“anyone with a brain knows this is NOT how you stimulate the economy”

AAAAAAAAMMMMMMEEEEENNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!![visualize this in bold and triple underlining]

One half of a Gaussian population (generally speaking that would be all of us) is below average.

  16. take_no_prisoners says:

The Republicans, especially the ones in the senate, need to adopt Nancy Pelosi’s strategy vis a vis President Bush, of doing everything they can to obstruct everything Obama wants to do in order to slow him down as much as possible and make him look as bad as possible. They need to take every opportunity to point out that while he may be a gifted speaker, he has absolutely no experience as a CEO of anything, hasn’t offered any detailed plan for accomplishing his lofty and often times self-contradictory goals. They need to take every opportunity to say that he doesn’t know what he’s doing and he’s in over his head and follow it up with “It’s too bad, he’s a nice guy an inspirational speaker, and he means well but his inexperience is dangerous and expensive.” In his speech today he talked about building more green energy infrastructure and claimed that this would reduce electricity costs–how so? He didn’t say and nobody bothered to ask. The last time I looked the green alternatives were about twice the cost of conventional coal, natural gas, nuclear and hydro generation. Every time a republican talks to the press the theme needs to be Obama is …Dangerous and Expensive!!!

    • JohnMG says:

We actually owe him nothing, including cooperation. If anything, he owes us, big-time, for raiding the treasury and plunging us and our progeny into limitless debt. Instead of telling us what he’s going to spend, he should ask us if it’s ok to spend it. It’s our money, for God’s sake!!

He will ultimately fail. Sadly, by the time the people realize it, we will have failed right along with him.

      I’m distresed.

    • JohnMG says:

I agree, tnp, with what you’ve said. Further, what difference does it make if the Republicans are unpopular? Pelosi, Reid, et.al. have banished the minority to the wastelands and marginalized them in every way possible. So what do they stand to lose by fighting a rear-guard action. They should wail loud and long at every opportunity, and forestall every damaging piece of Obama legislation they can, whenever they can.

  17. proreason says:

    “He will ultimately fail”

It depends on how you define failure. By his definition, he is likely to succeed.

I was talking to a friend the other day whose father was a young man in the depression. My friend has a degree in economics, and when he was in school his father said to him “make no mistake. It doesn’t matter what those professors tell you. This country was in a depression on Dec 6, 1941 just as bad as when Roosevelt was elected.”

Yet Roosevelt is considered a great success. He was a success because from 1932 until 1968 there was only one Republican administration, and that was the war hero Eisenhauer.

Obamy couldn’t care less about the economy. He defines success as power. Socialists aren’t idealists either. They just want power. Stalin certainly wasn’t an idealist. Socialism just happens to be a great tool to dominate and control the population.

And as Rush says, the Depression Stimulus isn’t designed to stimulate the economy, it’s designed to create a permanent majority for Democrats. And with the msm behind him, it can happen.

That’s why the good new I look for isn’t about the economy. The good news I look for is for the msm to get angry about the way they are treated by Obamy. I don’t expect that to happen either, but I think there is a better chance of that happening than there is of good news about government policy. That news will be 100% bad for 4 years, at least.

Other than the msm turning on him (not likely), the other way to get the moron out is him starting a war. Judging from the first 5 days, that scenario is looking more probable. His decadess of playing Risk in his dorm room aren’t looking very useful from the early indications.

    • JohnMG says:

The one difference being that generations of Americans have enjoyed the fruits of freedom. When his schemes force us all to use alternative energy sources that cost twice as much as fossil fuel–when the choice is between buying food or being forced to pay exorbitant prices for keeping warm, when we no longer can take trips around our own country because of the costs, forcing us to give up our freedom of mobility–in other words when some tin-horn dictator tells us that we must live like some third-world (can you say Kenya?) country just to save the world from some threat that it increasingly becomes clear doesn’t exist, the people will ask, “for whom are we saving it”. At that point they will stand up and fight.

This moron will trip on his own dick, and when he does I hope I’m still around to join in the second revolution. He exerts no power over me that I don’t yield of my own volition. And I know I’m not the only one who feels like this.

    • proreason says:

I sure hope you are right John, and the examples you cite are good ones.

The worrisome thing is that 40% of the country now pays no taxes and the Fool is moving that % up. At 51%, the game could be over.

But the alternative energy thing could well be a weak spot. Current polls are showing the slack-jawed belief in that scam is waning, and high gasoline prices do have a way of irritating the public, don’t they?

The moron could overplay his hand on that one. Knock on wood.

    • DW says:

He exerts no power over me that I don’t yield of my own volition.
      Amen, brother!

This needs to be on a Hallmark card:
      Dear, liberal/race pimp/ACLU/professional victim/radical feminist/anarchist/radical homosexual/liberal judge/liberal politician/liberal anything/criminal/Hollywood celebrity/journalist/Dixie Chick/vile individual:

You do what you do beacuse I let you do it.
      Kindly remember that.

      Yours truly,
      The armed citizen.

    • Liberals Demise says:

LD offers JohnMG a brewski and church key.
      Well said, brother!

    • sheehanjihad says:

I am sure that this is being read by “them”.. Hey, morons…read the posts above this one. Do you see the recurring theme? Liberals control government and the media. Yes they do! BUT….. Conservatives constitute the vast majority of law enforcement and the Military. You cant have power without the threat of force. BUT…you can lose your power by the application of force. So think about that, shrivel wink.

    • Liberals Demise says:

      shrivel wink = short arm?
      If so…..Kooo

  18. Sharps Rifle says:

Someone needs to tell the Indonesian Illegal that the First Amendment hasn’t been repealed, as much as he and his filthy party may wish it were, and that if dissent was patriotic when Bush was pursuing socialism lite, then it’s absolutely essential since Barry wants full-bore Marxism.

Wait…I forgot…the Traitor Party wants full bore Marxism, so dissent must be punished and those who speak against the Dear Leader must suffer for their heresy.

Time to lock and load, people. We have a Constitution to reinstate.

  19. Lipstick on a PIAPS says:

Well Barak, if you really WON they why do you have to run your MOUTH about it?! You need the Republicans to provide COVER for you stupid economic policies so the moderate Democrats can vote against it and get re-elected! You have the Majority, MAGIC NEGRO, why do you even have to talk to Republicans at all?!? Just because you can play McCain, and Graham and Collins and the other liberal idiots in the party as your fools doesn’t mean everyone is worshiping your dumb @$$. RUSH Limbaugh will bury YOU and your stupid ideas so get used to it!

  20. U NO HOO says:

Capitalism and abstinence always work when they are tried.

There was capitalism in SSSR, it was called the black market.

    Now I feel better.

  21. chestnutt says:

The 60 million of us who didn’t vote for Hopey Changey are just shaking in our boots!!!

Just as I’m sure Rush is….

Geez, does the Prez know when Nap and Cookie Times are????

  22. Greg England says:

“You can’t just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done,” he told top GOP leaders, whom he had invited to the White House to discuss his nearly $1 trillion stimulus package.

Whilst US liberals complain about the existence of talk show hosts like Rush, here in the UK it’s a little different. We have George Galloway:

    • jobeth says:

Had to chuckle Greg, my husband is a Brit, (legally here, I might add…he stood in line and jumped through all the hoops as required)
      and he HATES this loon.

He’s a Manchester United fan and just groaned when I read that Galloway is one too. He’s considering finding a new team (kidding)

    • Liberals Demise says:

Hats off to your husband for being the ONE who did it legally.

“Land of the Free…….Because of the Brave”

    • jobeth says:

Thanks LD. I am happy to say he is as conservative as I am. He was a Maggie Thatcher man. And dearly loves America as does his whole family.

He hates what has happened to England. The last time we went back I took my granddaughter and while taking pictures in London we had a VERY hard time taking a photo of her without including muslims in every shot. Not kidding! It doesn’t look like the old England.

My brother in law is well educated and works in computers and desperately wants to come over as well. He can’t.

There is NO lottery for the UK…however some bug eating, non bathing, non English speaking, American hating, character can come on in.

Only due to our marriage was he allowed in. We had to prove over and over it was a real marriage..which was fine with us. That is as it should be.

Our only anger is that America refuses to allow highly educated 1st world people in but allows uneducated, unskilled, sure to be demanding parisites of the 3rd world in. Not to mention middle easterners…! AND allows those who jump the line, stay as long as they want WITHOUT bothering with those pesky laws.

      Go figure.

  23. 1sttofight says:

Maybe DuhOne will send Rush an official letter so he can auction it off for charity like he did the one from Dingy Harry.

  24. Chinnubie says:

This demonizing of Rush is exactly what the Messiah wants to do to get this retarded gigantic pork-laden bill passed so, the democrats can continue to write their own tickets during re-election. The bulk of this pork-laden package will not be released until late 2010 just in time for the House Democrats to use to get elected.

The best thing the Republican can do if, they have any gonads, will be to stand in solidarity and all of them need to vote against this bill even though the Democrats can still get it passed. Let them do this themselves, so the Republicans can say, well we tried to tell you people, but elections have consequences, and this is what you all voted for thinking that your emotions were going to save this country’s economic problems!!

To me this whole mess we are in is absolutely hilarious because the people that created it are the ones trying to fix it and they are creating even more problems the more they try to fix this economic mess they created. I am saying we made our bed now we have to sleep in it because if everyday people can’t see what is going on then they deserve everything that happens to them. If these emotional drones don’t want to research who they are electing to the most powerful job in the world then when the shit hits the fan how on earth can they say, wait a minute I did not expect this to happen. It is just like the old saying “You get what you pay for”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • 1sttofight says:

      You nailed it my friend.

    • proreason says:

look at Rush’s response via Byron York in the National Review.

Rush agrees that Obamy is trying to make it about Rush so he doesn’t have to justify plunging every taxpayer in Amerca in debt for the amount of a full year’s taxes with his Depression Stimulus bill.

Rush also points out rule 13 from Saul Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals, which is exactly what the Moron is doing with this attack.

      From jobeth above:

  25. Peace Enforcer says:

Rush should post on his websight……..”I Oppose COMMUNISTS of any Color!”……lol

  26. take_no_prisoners says:

Please take every opportunity to tell your Republican legislators in the Senate, House and Statehouses that they may have lost the battle but please don’t surrender in the war that the Dimmocrits started with them. They need to be resolute in pushing back as hard as they can immediately!

  27. Alice L. says:

Note to Pres. Zero: “I will listen to Rush. You lose.”
