Obama: Iran’s Aspirations Are Legitimate

From a BBC interview, via YouTube:

Obama says Iran’s energy concerns legitimate

"Iran has legitimate energy concerns, legitimate aspirations"

And now this write up from the Associated Press:

Obama says Iran’s energy concerns legitimate

By NANCY ZUCKERBROD

LONDON (AP) — President Barack Obama reiterated that Iran may have some right to nuclear energy — provided it takes steps to prove its aspirations are peaceful.

In a BBC interview broadcast Tuesday, Obama also restated plans to pursue direct diplomacy with Tehran to encourage it to set aside any ambitions for nuclear weapons it might harbor.

Iran has insisted its nuclear program is aimed at generating electricity. But the U.S. and other Western governments accuse Tehran of seeking atomic weapons.

"Without going into specifics, what I do believe is that Iran has legitimate energy concerns, legitimate aspirations. On the other hand, the international community has a very real interest in preventing a nuclear arms race in the region," Obama said

Obama’s interview offered a preview of a speech he is to deliver in Egypt this week, saying he hoped the address would warm relations between Americans and Muslims abroad.

"What we want to do is open a dialogue," Obama told the BBC. "You know, there are misapprehensions about the West, on the part of the Muslim world. And, obviously, there are some big misapprehensions about the Muslim world when it comes to those of us in the West."

Obama leaves Tuesday evening on a trip to Egypt and Saudi Arabia aimed at reaching out to the world’s 1.5 billion Muslims. He is due to make his speech in Cairo on Thursday…

Asked what he would say during his visit about human rights abuses, including the detention of political prisoners in Egypt, Obama indicated no stern lecture would be forthcoming.

He said he hoped to deliver the message that democratic values are principles that "they can embrace and affirm."

Obama added that there is a danger "when the United States, or any country, thinks that we can simply impose these values on another country with a different history and a different culture."

Aside from his obviously naivety (at best), what about the hypocrisy?

Mr. Obama will not admit that the US might have legitimate aspirations for nuclear power.

And we aren’t even sitting on the world’s second largest reserve of oil.

Obama added that there is a danger "when the United States, or any country, thinks that we can simply impose these values on another country with a different history and a different culture."

Whew.

And there we were worried about having to put up with imposed limits on our carbon output.

What the heck…Iran has a thousand years of natural gas sources and no pesky environmental groups preventing them from accessing it.

“there are some big misapprehensions about the Muslim world”

Yes, the idea that Iran wants nuclear power for peaceful purposes only is one of them.

  2. Liberals Demise says:

Barry is a nutjob and needs some help from the guys above his pay grade!!

  3. proreason says:

Well, you can look at this from the perspective of an American with an interest in keeping America safe.

Or you can look at it from Obama’s perspective.

    • Enthalpy says:

President Obama should be held to his oath–a legally binding contract in which he pledged allegiance to the United States. If he reneges on that oath or fails to recognize the threats, how is his contract enforced? (sooner not later).

  4. 64dodger says:

Lets see Muslims want to kill anyone who attempts to leave Islam. Muslims want their lawa imposed on everyone whether Muslim or not and Obama is worried about us imposing our values on them.

    This guy is totally nuts.

Obama: “You know, there are misapprehensions about the West, on the part of the Muslim world. And, obviously, there are some big misapprehensions about the Muslim world when it comes to those of us in the West.”

There is no misapprehensions by the muslim world’s growing culture and religious view, to impose severe punish and death to their own and the entire evil world.
Once again Obama blames America as having “obviously, some big” misapprehensions about muslims. It’s black and white and covered in blood.
The media decieves and endangers the west, giving the the middle-east which is spread world wide, a giant pacifier portraying them as gentle and loving holy, with only a few bad apples.

Speaking of the west, both of them kept taking turns piercing their eyes west and downward, sharing their teleprompter on the floor.

Iran definitely has a friend. Can you believe this? Like obama said, “You ain’t seen nothing yet”

  7. canary says:

Obama’s view on muslim conversion being great for his family and the world. His blame towards America for all the global world’s problems.

Barack Obama “Dreams from my Father” 441,442 (the last 2 pgs.)

“The person who made me proudest of all, though, was Roy. Actually, now we call him Abongo, …he decided to reassert his African heritage. He converted to Islam….Not that the changes in him are without tension. He’s prone to make lengthy pronouncements on the need for the black man to liberate himself from the poisoning influences of European culture…The words he speaks are not fully his own, and in his transition he can sometimes sound stilted and dogmatic…
His conversion has given him solid ground to stand on, a pride in his place in the world.”

Barack Obama “The Audacity of Hope” 278 –
Obama: “Today, Islamic parties make up one of the largest political blocs, with many calling for the imposition of Sharia, or Islamic law. Seeded by funds from the Middle East, Wahhabist clerics, schools, and mosques…. Many Indonesia women have adopted the head coverings so familiar in the Muslim countries of North Africa and the Persian Gulf; Islamic militants and self-proclaimed “vice squads” have attacked churches, …”

Obama went on to write about one of Indonesia’s muslim Indonesia’s leaders, who lead inland bombings, released after 26 monthes, to continue his blame and hatred towards America and Isreal.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abu_Bakar_Bashir

Obama goes on in regards to Indonesia (in which he learned muslim, and loved his youth and continued visits, and the place he went when he suffered writers block) to describe the spread of muslim terrorists

pg 279″And yet in many ways Indonesia serves as a useful metaphor for the world beyond our borders – a world in which globalization and sectarianism, poverty and plenty, modernity and antiquity constantly collide.”

“”Obama goes on to “blame” the U.S. for the spread of muslim terrorists in the world””

pg 279 “Indonesia also provides a handy record of U.S. foreign policy over the past fifty years. In broad outline at least, it’s all there: our role in liberating former colonies and creating international institution to help manage the post-World War II order; our tendency to view nations and conflicts through the prism of the Cold War; our tireless promotion of American-style capitalism and multinational corporations; the tolerance and occasional encouragement of tranny, corruption, and evnironmental degradation when it served out interests; our optimism once the Cold War ended that Big Macs and ‘the Internet would lead to the end of historical conflicts’; the growing economic power of Asia and growing resentment of the United States as the world’s sole superpower; the realization that in the short term, at least democratization might lay bare, rather than alleviate, ethnic hatreds and religous divisions- and that the wonders of globalization might also facilitate economic volatility, the spread of pandemics, and terrorism. In other words, our record is mixed – not just in Indonesia but acrsoss the globe. and make for a dangerous world. ”

Obama also blames America’s wealth as something that leads to despair in other countries who have little. Course he’s rich now, and uses capitalization to his own advantage and the American people pay him to boot, and
he is gung-ho about the internet. 272-, he also says most Americans have never heard of Indonesia, and at this point, forgets the decades of muslims fighting each other, slaughters, mutilations, wars, Dutch invasion, Japan’s big invasion, and has the audacity to say America should have stepped in decades ago, and helped Indonesia. Obama wants his cake and eat it too. What a hypocrite!
The Tyranny of a leader who is all about himself, no matter the expense to the world.

  8. pdsand says:

“On the other hand, the international community has a very real interest in preventing a nuclear arms race in the region,” Obama said…”

I think he misspoke. What he meant to say, is the United States has an interest in keeping that nutjob from getting nuclear weapons. Just one nuclear weapon is too many. Our interest doesn’t have anything to do with the region or an arms race per se.

    • canary says:

So full of contradictions within it’s own context, then trying to tie it with today’s contradictions and flip flopping. One thing is to blame America for not coming to Indonesia’s rescue, but to blame us for today’s terrorism over there. They sure aren’t doing anything about it, themselves.
It was America’s downful during Wilson, refusing to create a League of Nations.
Page 283 The Audacity of Hope

For the next twenty years, America truned resolutely inward – reducing its army and navy, refusing to join the World Court, standing idly by as Italy, Japan, and Nazi Germany built up their military machines. The Senate became a hotbed of isolationsim passing a Neutrality Act that prevented the United States from lending assistance to countries invaded by the Axis powers, and repeatedly ignoring the President’s appeals as Hilter’s armies marched across Europe. Not until the bombing of Pearl Harbor would America realize its terrrible mistake.

Does Obama’s above statement mean he’s flip flopped and wants America attacked.

    • Barbie says:

‘For the next twenty years, America truned resolutely inward – reducing its army and navy,…standing idly by as Italy, Japan, and Nazi Germany built up their military machines. SORT OF LIKE WHAT YOU’RE DOING, OBAMA, RIGHT NOW WITH IRAN BUILDING UP ITS MILITARY MACHINES, WHILE YOU SIT BY AND ENCOURAGE THEM TO DO SO. this guy’s a dangerous idiot.

  9. neocon mom says:

Wasn’t Russia prepared to provide enriched uranium for Iran in order to prevent them from building the facilities to do it themselves? They are clearly interested in weapons manufacturing are only emboldened by this administration, particularly when they look at NoKo and our lack of success there.
His comment about “pushing our values” on others sickens me. Like when a lib acquaintance of mine conceded that female circumcision is bad, but we’d be just as bad to push our values on them. I guess the fact that “we are endowed by our Creator with certain unalienable rights” is a philosophy not applicable to anyone other than Americans, but I am digressing…
Look, it’s clear from Obamanomics that he thinks America needs taken down a few pegs. This should come as no surprise. I guess what does surprise and sicken me is that this guy has approval ratings that are astounding, given where he’s taking us. I guess celebrity worship and reverence for identity politics (thanks, government education) carries even more weight than I ever imagined..

    • JohnMG says:

Spot on, neocon mom. Obama’s narcicissism blinds him to the fact that Iran’s past and her intent is obvious to anyone but a complete dolt. Unfortunately, this country seems enamored of his self-proclaimed charisma and glib speaking style that they refuse to see the obvious. They are his ‘useful idiots’, yet he, himself, is just a tool–and just as oblivious to it. The body language gives away the fact that he’s caught up in his own importance–and sooo unaware. A regular ‘post turtle’.

    • Petronius says:

“what does surprise and sicken me is that this guy has approval ratings that are astounding, given where he’s taking us.”

So, so true. That is the most maddening part, the most frustrating part. At any earlier point in history the destruction being wrought by Nerobama would have been the subject of endless literature, but it has attracted not one smidgen of art. Millions of words have been written about him and his doings, and millions more are yet to be written, but if you read them all you would find nothing of real event.

    • Rusty Shackleford says:

I’m of the belief that his approval ratings are not so much driven by real people being asked real questions but by the media printing whatever the hell they want. Once again, of course, to show how supportive they are of the house negro.

    • proreason says:

Polls are bullshit, except the ones that ask “McCain or Obama”.

Anythng more complicated than that and the average American’s eyes roll back in his head, and he reaches for his brain-number of choice.

  10. BatK says:

Without going into specifics, what I do believe is that Iran has legitimate energy concerns, legitimate aspirations. On the other hand, the international community has a very real interest in preventing a nuclear arms race in the region,” Obama said…

Which translated into non-double speak means:

“Without coming right and telling you that I’ll do everything I can to aid and abet the destruction of Israel, I think it’s important to let Iran get the nuke capabilities to obliterate Israel as they stated repeatedly as part of their ‘legitimate aspirations,’ but I certainly don’t want Israel to defend itself or protect its civilians by using their own nuclear arms in a ‘race’ to see who can wipe out whom first.”

    • canary says:

BatK, good call. I think considering his home countries Africa and Indonesia, muslim relatives, friends, bad company, church, and his choice of mentors during his entire life-time, only taught him one ideology. He is what he despises, and points that finger everywhere else.

    • proreason says:

I think you guys are onto something.

Daddy’s a muslim. Step Daddy’s a muslim. Went to mulim schools until he was 8. Knows the Arab call to prayer by heart. College roomates were anti-semite Pakistani’s. Traveled to Pakistan as his big college trip. Rev Wrong is a virulent anti-semite. Ayer’s is an anti-semite. First Presidential interviews is with an Egyptian correspondent. Foreign policy staff is chock a block with anti-semites.

So now, he wants Iran to get the bomb, and Israel to give up theirs, and their country.

      What a shock.

      Who could possibly have known?

    • Barbie says:

Obama is telling Israel he is dropping them to whatever fate Iran decides. The strongest (although certainly not the only) connection between the American left and Muslims is that the American left, of which Obama is a card-carrying member, hate Israel and want to see it destroyed. Muslims hate Israel and want to see it destroyed. Obama apparently is an ardent and accommodating member of both groups.

Or could it be he is such a spineless wimp that he agrees with anyone long as they like him?

    * No, I have not been drinking (that much), but Drudge Report showed a cartouche of BHO as the new King Tut. As if ‘Savior of the World’ was not enough to fulfil his ego…

    • JohnMG says:

King “Twit” is more like it.

    • Colonel1961 says:

Agreed. There is no legitimate need for nukes in Iran. Pure provocation.

Thank God Israel isn’t becoming a nation of, er, uh, wimps. I look for some sorties within six months…

This creature is wrecking so much havoc so quickly that it’s impossible to tell whether Red Sonia is a distraction to make us forget about Iran, or Iran is a distraction to make us forget about Red Sonia.

Or maybe they are both a distraction to make us forget about Uniscrewal Health Care.

Or maybe they are all distractions to make us forget the fed is printing money around the clock as we speak.

    Or maybe…….

    My head hurts.

    • jobeth says:

      LOL (sarcastic LOL)

Yep, they have us chasing our tail just figuring them out.

I feel like the only sane person in the asylum and they all have ganged up and telling me I’M the one whose crazy!

We’ve seen some goofy and hard times in this country but this “regime” has got to take the cake.

      Right?….sorry that’s wrong now. Wrong?…sorry that’s right now.

Sort of like watching a really slick but sloppy magician…and you know its slight of hand but you just don’t know how he’s getting by with it all. Then you find out the audience is only the mush brained libtards who can’t even think, let alone reason.

If we live through this, will we ever have a story to tell to our great grandchildren…you know, as to why they are still in debt! Kind of like our parents who lived thru the last depression….except they didn’t spend our money. The operative sentence though is “If we live through this….!”

When I was in college way back in 1970 I really wanted to become a social worker. Remember that wasn’t too long after the “Great Society” and I wanted so much to “help” people.

Wasn’t long before I had to quit due to home issues. (Later went back and became a respiratory therapist) I was thinking just today, how crazy would I have been trying to keep my sanity in THAT alternative world? (thank you Lord for getting me out of that pit!)

Talk about confusion and a hurting head! LOL

Let’s be honest, King Barack’s approval ratings will never fall below 40%, as hard core Democrats will love him even if he starts wearing Muslim garb fulltime and quotes from the Quran during SOTU speeches. Obama could get busted with dead teenagers buried in his Chicago backyard and he’d still get 40%. The Democrats and their Media allies are so utterly corrupt, nothing matters. Sad but true, as a Democracy the US is finished. We’ve crossed the Rubicon and there is no return. The people have spoken, the bastards.

Might as well move to Canada. They may be Socialist but they’re not totally nuts. They know better than to run BS scams like Fan/Fred and bankrupt their banking system by politicizing home mortgage markets

  15. BigOil says:

“And, obviously, there are some big misapprehensions about the Muslim world when it comes to those of us in the West.”

Less than a week ago, this clown sped past the reason for our big ‘misapprehension’ – a crater that serves as the grave site for nearly 3000 of our citizens.

At least Neville Chamberlain had an excuse for his naivete. He was facing a strong German military. BO is cowering in the corner when faced with a bunch of 12th century throwbacks – when he has the worlds strongest military at his disposal.

    • proreason says:

“”Neville Chamberlain had an excuse for his naivete.”

I no longer think The Moron is naive.

Everything his handlers have him do is deliberate.

“Let’s be honest, King Barack’s approval ratings will never fall below 40%”

I think you are right. Also factor in that as his approval falls … the number of people who will falsely claim approval to avoid being sent to a re-education camp will rise. joke …sorta
