Obama Is Refusing To Help Iraq Fight Insurgent Surge

From the New York Times:

Iraq Said to Seek U.S. Strikes on Militants

By MICHAEL R. GORDON and ERIC SCHMITT | June 11, 2014

WASHINGTON — As the threat from Sunni militants in western Iraq escalated last month, Prime Minister Nuri Kamal al-Maliki secretly asked the Obama administration to consider carrying out airstrikes against extremist staging areas, according to Iraqi and American officials.

But Iraq’s appeals for a military response have so far been rebuffed by the White House, which has been reluctant to open a new chapter in a conflict that President Obama has insisted was over when the United States withdrew the last of its forces from Iraq in 2011…

The reason is obvious. If Iraq and Afghanistan fail, it will prove for the rest of time that Bush’s wars were all for nothing. The GOP has always been considered the party best at foreign policy. This will destroy that image forever. They should never again be trusted with foreign policy.

Also, remember all of the other countries that sent soldiers to fight and die in Iraq and Afghanistan. Thanks to this defeat, the  US never be able to form another international coalition again. Which will also help to destroy our ability to defend our interests in the world. Which is exactly what Obama wants.

[S]o far, the administration has signaled that it is not interested in such a direct American military role.

“Ultimately, this is for the Iraqi security forces, and the Iraqi government to deal with,” Rear Adm. John F. Kirby, the Pentagon spokesman, said Tuesday…

In a few weeks, maybe days, there won’t be any Iraqi security forces or any Iraqi government.

In a speech on Wednesday, Susan E. Rice, Mr. Obama’s national security adviser, said that the American effort to buttress Iraq’s forces had been effective. “The United States has been fast to provide necessary support for the people and government of Iraq,” she said in remarks at the Center for New American Security in Washington…

Ms. Rice is a perfect example of everything that is wrong with this administration.

I’ve said this before, and I’ll repeat it:

Why, precisely, would al Qaeda attack America again?

Their intent was to destroy America economically and end their meddling in Muslim countries.

President Obama has done both more effectively than al Qaeda could ever have dreamed of.
