Obama: Koran Burning Endangers Troops

An excerpt from the transcript of Mr. Obama’s interview with George Stephanopoulos of ABC News:

President Obama to Pastor Jones: ‘Stunt’ Endangers Troops

STEPHANOPOULOS: Let me ask you about Pastor Terry Jones. He gave a press conference today. Says he’s going to go through with burning the Korans. Is there anything you can say to him to convince him not to?

OBAMA: If he’s listening, I just hope he understands that what he’s proposing to do is completely contrary to our values of Americans. That this country has been built on the notions of religious freedom and religious tolerance. And as a very practical matter, as commander of chief of the Armed Forces of the United States I just want him to understand that this stunt that he is talking about pulling could greatly endanger our young men and women in uniform who are in Iraq, who are in Afghanistan. We’re already seeing protests against Americans just by the mere threat

STEPHANOPOULOS: What more could happen?

OBAMA: —that he’s making.

STEPHANOPOULOS: What are you worried about?

OBAMA: Well, look, the … this is a recruitment bonanza for Al Qaeda. You know, you could have serious violence in places like Pakistan or Afghanistan. This could increase the recruitment of individuals who’d be willing to blow themselves up in American cities, or European cities. You know and so you know, I just hope that, he says he’s … he’s someone who is motivated by his faith.

STEPHANOPOULOS: And he says he’s praying on it.

OBAMA:Yeah. I hope he listens to…those better angels.

OBAMA: And understands that this is a destructive act that he’s engaging in.

If Mr. Obama is so concerned about this “destructive act,” why does he support the building of the ‘Ground Zero Mosque.’

Do the families of 9/11 need to threaten terrorist acts to get their sensitivities respected?

STEPHANOPOULOS: I wonder what this must feel like from behind your desk. You’re President of the United States. You have to deal with the fallout. And he’s a pastor who’s got 30 followers in his church. Does it make you feel helpless or angry?

OBAMA: It, well it is frustrating. Now, on the other hand, we are a government of laws. And so, we have to abide by those laws. And my understanding is that he can be cited for public burning. But that’s the extent of the laws that we have available to us. You know, part of this country’s history is people doing destructive or offensive or harmful things. And yet, we still have to make sure that we’re following the laws. And that’s part of what I love about this country.

Meanwhile, when Code Pink ran ads attacking the US in Iraqi newspapers, or when they went into business with Iran, we didn’t we hear anything about it from our watchdog media. Didn’t Cindy Sheehan’s claims about he US atrocities in Iraq and Afghanistan help Al Qaeda recruit more terrorists?

Didn’t Time and John Murtha’s lies about Haditha hurt our troops? Didn’t the New York Times endless promotion of Abu Ghraib put our soldiers in danger?

Didn’t Mr. Obama’s own claims that we were just killing civilians in Afghanistan endanger our soldiers?

Has all of that now been conveniently forgotten?

    Mr President,
Sir, you do not rate to say what endangers us and what does not. Your job is to send us into harms way when necessary and with the tools to accomplish the job as effectively and efficiently (as in as little loss of life and treasure) as possible. You have done neither correctly and likely will not. Your conduct as CIC has endangered not just the troops but the citizens of this country. As one of the proud defenders of this Country’s constitution and its freedoms, I resent the hell out of you making this comment, even if you may be right, which is unlikely. I will follow your directives as I have been sworn to do, of my own volition, and in the sight of Almighty God. But I ask you, do not pretend to be concerned for my welfare, as it is neither your job nor a genuine concern in your heart of hearts.

Well, at least in this case he moved quickly to back up his generals. I am willing to give him that.

  3. tranquil.night says:

Haven’t heard him this animated since HealthCare, maybe even the campaign.

I can sense his anger here just as it’s written, compared to say his Captain Kickass oil spill press conference.

Always has to squeeze every last drop of political benefit. It never fails.

In any event, further proof that Petraeus was sent out by the leash to yell into the echo chamber.

The biggest threat to America’s fighting heroes, by orders of magnitude, is Obama himself.

The biggest threat to the world, by orders of magnitude, is Obama. Nobody as dangerous as him has appeared on the planet since Mao died.

I’m not claiming that he is as depraved as a Manson or Mao. He isn’t that twisted. But by dismantling the greatest force for good in the world, the United States, literally millions of people will die. Most of it will be indirect, and difficult to tie back to his actions, but the people will die nevertheless. They will die because the mini-Mao’s around the world no longer have any fear of the United States.

It’s a tragedy of unimaginable proportions.

Obama’s right…there, I said it. There’s a first time for everything. I am sick with anger over this business. Guess what story was all over every TV network in Europe and the Middle East last night? Yep. I know, because I checked. And again this morning. People will die on account of this. How many of our people died because of what that retarded hillbilly Lynndie England and her boyfriend did at Abu Ghraib? How many more will we lose because this wicked, selfish man, this so called “pastor”, wants his 15 minutes of fame? God damn him to Hell, where I hope he spends eternity getting punked by Ted Kennedy.

BTW, one reason this story is so bad for us is because in most of the Muslim world there’s no conception of “freedom of speech” (since they’ve never had any). The assumption will be that what this guy does represents US policy, since why didn’t we just arrest and torture him if we don’t approve of his actions, as would happen in their countries? They’ll also assume that he’s working for the government and all these denials from Obama and Hillary and so on are only a smokescreen for official policy, since that’s what their governments do all the time. This thing is bad for us, real bad.

If obama is right, then so is Jeremiah Wrong and so is this Imam Rauf about moving the mosque. And what they are saying is that our actions are to blame for the retaliations of terrorists. That is absolute victory for said terrorists. The very moment we change our way of life to try and avoid their violent wrath. So much for “Don’t tread on me” I guess. We condemned the gharaib idiots, we went after the imaginary war criminals in Iraq and guess what? They are still killing us.

I assure you, I signed up to fight, to the death if necessary, to protect the rights of people in this country to burn korans and demand mosques be moved from sacred ground if they so chose. IF you are in the same boat as me on that, then maybe you should re think your commitment. If you are not, then you shouldn’t worry about my commitment.

“How many of our people died because of what that retarded hillbilly Lynndie England and her boyfriend did at Abu Ghraib?”

      the answer is zero.

Radical muslims are bonkers anyway. Adding infinity to infinity yields infinity.

  6. wardmama4 says:

And so it begins – now never forget people – this minister just said that they were going to burn korans on 9/11 – yet even though no korans have been burned yet – the religion of the perpetually offended have already burned a US Flag.

Afghans protest Quran burning plan, torch US flag

KABUL, Afghanistan – Hundreds of angry Afghans burned a U.S. flag and chanted “Death to the Christians” on Thursday to protest plans by a small American church to torch copies of the Muslim holy book on the anniversary of the Sept. 11 terror attacks.

Tear down every single FOB and other bases we have built there, stop every single cent, get every single one of our Armed Forces out and let them be taken over again by the Taliban – then the next time – do it right – Nuke ’em til they glow.

Sorry but they are asking us to police down to every single person – but whine incessantly that the radical terrorists who happen to be islamic aren’t part of the ‘mainstream’ muslim and refuse to police them, silence them or condemn them at all.

Hey, President Obama – “I just want him everyone to understand that this stunt that he is talking about pulling could Islam greatly endanger[s] our young men and women in uniform who are in Iraq, who are in Afghanistan” – fixed it for you.

  7. wardmama4 says:

Well at least someone has hit the nail on the head – this Pastor & his 50 member church would have never, ever made even the local news much less World wide news – but has simply because it incites muslims (and hey, makes the Rauf threat that if we move the mosque site will incite the radical terrorists who happen to be islamic to violence quite ironic to those of us with functioning brain cells). This would be a non story if it did not involve inciting muslims (From a caller into Rush Limbaugh Show).

Anything that justifies the course of action already decided on. The media are bloodhounds for terrorist apologetics.

  9. jimreport says:

What I learned from this teachable moment:

Don’t burn paper in the yard, and the religion of peace wont retaliate with a worldwide killing rampage.

Add that to what I already learned:

Don’t draw a pedophile wearing a bomb turbin and the religion of peace won’t attack and burn your embassies.

  10. artboyusa says:

Let’s see how much more isolated I can get on this issue. Here goes; I hate this selfish, ignorant man, with his shiny suit and his unholstered Glock in camera shot on his desk. I hate what he is doing. I hate the effect I think it will have. I hate the way it makes my country look in the eyes of the world. I hate the way he is shaming the memory of those we lost on Sept 11.

I know its not fair about Code Pink and the Ground Zero mosque and burning flags and media frenzy and all that but hey, that’s tough. Life is unfair but right is right and wrong is wrong and this guy is so wrong on so many levels and in so many ways that I’m amazed that anyone can feel anything except revulsion and disgust toward him.
