Obama Leans On Rangel To Make A Deal

From an approving Reuters:

Obama hopes Rep. Rangel can leave "with dignity"

Sat Jul 31, 2010

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – President Barack Obama called ethics charges against Representative Charles Rangel "very troubling" on Friday and said he hoped the lawmaker could end his career "with dignity."

Democrats have urged the New York lawmaker, one of the most senior members of Congress and its former chief tax writer, to settle the charges to avoid a trial they fear could hurt them in congressional elections in November.

Obama’s comments may be seen as indirect encouragement for Rangel to cut a deal or step down for the good of the Democratic Party. If he resigned, that would effectively end the congressional investigation.

"I think Charlie Rangel served a very long time and served his constituents very well, but these allegations are very troubling," Obama said in an interview with CBS television.

What evidence do we have that Mr. Rangel “served his constituents well”? Is Harlem such a showplace now?

"He is somebody who is at the end of his career, 80 years old. I’m sure that what he wants is to be able to end his career with dignity, and my hope is that happens," Obama said

Well, if Mr. Rangel does anything “with dignity” it will be a first. Still, Mr. Obama could be right.

To paraphrase the Bard and the ‘Scottish play’ (Macbeth Act 1, Scene 4): “Nothing in his public life would become him like the leaving it.”

I still want to know – what Rangel has done?- The Dems surrounded William ‘Frozen Assets’ Jefferson like a baby deer under attack by a lone coyote – yet now even The Won (whose opinion is not a suggestion, but rather the pronouncement from on high) is against Rangel staying. And believe me, the most ‘ethical’ Congress ever – wouldn’t pause a nanosecond to ‘re-interpret’ this whole event into a partisan (i.e. Republican) attack on one of America’s finest. Something is very, very fishy – and of course the media won’t even bother to be ‘bi-partisan’ enough to investigate – oh heck – to even suspect that something is very, very wrong.

Which convinces me even more – that Rangel did something very, very bad. Which indeed, if the RNC played like the DNC would come out about Oct 3rd – but of course the media will cover up until Dec 2012, the RNC wouldn’t do a damn thing to even try to win an election and it is all going to go to hell – as We The People attempt to stop the the Thug Administration, the Klownposse in DC, the RHINOs on the run, the all-so-bi-partisan pundits (on the right) – Chris ‘tingle up the leg’ Matthews and Keith ‘worser’ Olbermann prime examples of the ‘bi-partisan’ leftist pundits, ACORN, SEIU thugs, Black Panthers – and of course the Obama ‘from his stash’ bots.

God Help America – and apparently Charles Rangel (although as the Rev (not-so) Wright would say – I think Rangels chickens have come home to roost).

wm, there’s the answer to your question.

Regime Rule #1: If the Moron is stepping in to dictate his will, then what we have is a Democrat caused crisis. (see TARP, Deficit, HealthCare, Education, etc.)

But Pelosi did try and put this off until after the election. She had to force Rangel to step down from W&M Chair. The smart political play was probably to force him to resign then. He didn’t want to play the game; for whatever reason he’s continued paroting his complete innocence all the way to trial. I think he’s vindictive that he’s taking the fall. He probably sees himself as a victim to his own side’s betrayal. That’s how leftists think.

You’re right that the bigger picture is probably an even worse series of charges. Not just on Rangel, but I wouldn’t be surprised if practically every Democrat was dirty. These were supposed to be the ruling class leaders of the utiopian Obamanation. The traditional rules of the Constitution and English Common Law went out the window long ago for these people. Remember Pelosi: “We can’t let the Republicans get control of Congress or there will be a tidal wave of investigations.”

      Rangel believes he’s entitled.

He might hate Obamy for being a faux negro as well.

In addition, he’s a corruptocrat. He worked all his life to put himself in a position to lie, cheat and steal with impunity…..just like all those white guys have done for centuries.

What he is not is a commie idealogue. It’s conceivable that he is a patriot in his own way.

I know it’s a stretch, but I think he might be trying to hurt the Moron.

If I’m right, then this will drag on.

But keep in mind, he is being offered a king’s ransom to resign. They are probably threatening his family as well. This can’t possibly help the Dims…they are the ones persecuting the dear boy.

You hit the nail again, Pro.

Less invested in the grand scam, a kingpin of the Congressional Black Clique. They have their own brand of redistribution which – you’re right – is carried out through their own Corruptocrat entitlement schemes like all those we’ve covered the past few weeks.

Your theory about Obama-Rangel is where my head is too. It goes back to Sherrod-Obama, Dowd-Obama, pretty much any Leftist who’s commented on his fauxness.

But take race out of it and we can think in terms of typical Chicago Politics. “You scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours.” That only works until one side becomes a liability. Obama has himself in deep debt to the Clinton’s because of that game.

The more all this ruling class elitism gets exposed in the public, the worse it gets for them. Keep the tape rolling and the popcorn out.

Heaven’s yes! What would Harlem be like without Rangel’s help over all of these years?!

  3. Liberals Demise says:

Come on now, Charley brought the first black President of the United States to Harlem………William (Astro turf) Clinton.

Things must be really bad behind the scenes when dingleBarry tosses one of his own kind (Shirley Sherrod) under the Campaign Tour bus.

  4. untrainable says:

Obama is politically on tip toe until November (at least in his own mind). Charlie Rangel is just a small bug on the floor scurrying from the light. For Obama to back him up, Charlie would have to have something that baby barry wanted. Poor Charlie has nothing of consequence to offer, so it comes down to saying nothing, or making Charlie familiar with the undercarriage of that bus. It would be more of a risk for baby barry to do nothing. That could come back to haunt him if Charlie’s skeletons come out for a little air. He doesn’t care about Charlie’s dignity, just getting his name off the 24 hour news snippet parade before November.

“He is somebody who is at the end of his career, 80 years old…”
Perhaps Barry thinks Rangel needs to consult with a death panel as well.
Barry does display all signs of ageism.
