Obama Let BP Use Too Much Dispersant!

From a relieved that they have found a new thing to be outraged about Associated Press:

Oil and gas leaking from the BP’s ruptured well is sprayed with dispersant in this image captured from a BP live video in the Gulf of Mexico on July 15, 2010.

Investigation: Too much dispersant used in oil spill

NEW ORLEANS – As BP inched closer to permanently sealing the blown-out oil well in the Gulf of Mexico, congressional investigators railed against the company and Coast Guard for liberal use of toxic chemicals that helped disperse the oil, but at unknown expense to sea life.

The Coast Guard routinely approved BP requests to use thousands of gallons of the chemical per day to break up the oil in the Gulf, despite a federal directive to use the dispersant rarely, the investigators said. The Coast Guard approved 74 waivers over a 48-day period after the Environmental Protection Agency order, according to documents reviewed by the investigators. Only in a few cases did the government scale back BP’s request.

What is all of this talk about the Coast Guard approving this? We were told that Mr. Obama was directly in charge. So Mr. Obama approved BP’s requests to disperse the oil.

But in any case, it’s clearly another failure of government oversight. Which, of course, can only mean that we need more government oversight.

Rep. Edward Markey, D-Mass., released a letter Saturday that said instead of complying with the EPA restriction, "BP often carpet bombed the ocean with these chemicals and the Coast Guard allowed them to do it."

Or rather, Mr. Obama allowed this ‘carpet bombing.’ Obviously, he hates the wildlife in the Gulf as much as Mr. Bush hated the blacks in New Orleans.

BP has worked "hand in hand" with the Coast Guard and EPA on dispersant use since the spill began in April, a company spokesman said Sunday.

"Furthermore, we’ve complied with EPA requests regarding dispersants, which are an EPA-approved and recognized tool in fighting oil spills," spokesman Daren Beaudo said, declining to elaborate

Nitpickers.

The chemical dispersant was effective at breaking up the oil into small droplets to be consumed more easily by bacteria, but the long-term effects to aquatic life are unknown.

This, of course, is the real crime here. The oil has been eaten up by that damn bacteria before Mr. Obama and the environmentalists could fully exploit the crisis.

That environmental uncertainty has led to several spats between BP and the government over the use of dispersants on the surface and deep underwater when oil was spewing out of the well.

Given that the government was in complete control, these "spats" – if they ever occurred — should have been easily settled in the government’s favor.

BP’s apparently generous use of dispersants helps explain why so little oil has been spotted on the surface recently, said Larry McKinney, executive director of the Harte Research Institute for Gulf of Mexico Studies at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi…

So we must criminalize using such dispersants at all cost. (Literally.) Damn them for making the oil disappear. They should be outlawed immediately.

We cannot allow such things to be used. Not when there are birds that need to be coated in oil for photo ops.

Whether the benefits of dispersants outweigh the possible risks is a "debatable point," he said. They’ve protected the Gulf Coast’s fragile wetlands from heavier bands of oil but are capable of killing shrimp and crab eggs and larvae

Even though there is absolutely no evidence of the dispersants having killed anything as yet.

But the AP and the rest of the Democrat hysterians have to find something to complain about.

Well, the political criminals weren’t sitting on their hands during the three weeks when nary a peep was heard about the spill.

They probably had 3 or 4 fallback plans in place in case BP got lucky and overcame the obstacles they put in place to prevent BP from plugging the leak. The disaster MUST continue through November. More people MUST suffer. More wildlife MUST die cruel deaths. Big oil must be destroyed so the serfs can be restrained in their compounds.

The only surpising thing is that this fallback took so long to come out. You have to believe that one or more of other contingencies didn’t pan out as planned.

This is who is in the White House, along with the Muslim Brotherhood. This is no accident. They are hoping it will kill people, also.

The so called “chemical dispersants” are SOAP. And we know how much environ-mentals hate soap.

So it looks like big government incompetence rules the day on every count. Starting with approving the well design to actual sinking the drill rig. I guess the coast guard forgot deep-water drill rigs are ships too. and should be filled up with water.

So that’s what you get with big government. As the Soviets found, massive incompetence.

  6. BigOil says:

The reason brain dead Democrats like Markey are decrying the use of dispersants is simple…it worked.

We now know applying dispersants during a worst case gulf oil spill will minimize the environmental impact. Oil companies will rightfully make this argument, but the liberals and their environmentalist wacko constituency knows it hinders their ability to impose crushing regulations on offshore drilling.

If anything limits a liberals ability to gain control, it will be attacked.

Don’t use incandescent light bulbs, they burn too much energy.
Don’t use the new twisty light bulbs either, they have mercury in them.
Don’t use an oil lamp, they use fossil fuels.
Don’t use whale oil. OH! Those precious whales! (sob)
Don’t use candles, they produce CO and CO2, among other things that will destroy the planet.
Don’t burn wood, it kills trees.
Don’t breathe, either. The planet is depending on you not to.

In fact, don’t do anything. Just remain still, and wait to die; It’s nature’s way.

Sounds like Edward Ma[la]rkey, D-Nursery, needs his diaper changed, judging by the stink he’s making over this non-issue.

He also needs a bottle… to shut him up.
