Obama Looks To Gandhi “For Inspiration”

From the Press Trust of India:

Police personnel pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi near Mumbai January 30, 2008. Some of the final ashes of Indian independence leader and peace icon Mohandas K. Gandhi were scattered at sea by his great-granddaughter on Wednesday, as the country paid homage on the 60th anniversary of his assassination.

Obama inspired by Mahatma Gandhi

Barack Obama, Democratic front-runner for the US Presidential nomination, sees Mahatma Gandhi as an inspiration.

Obama also has a portrait of the apostle of peace in his office to remind him that ordinary people can do extraordinary things.

”In my life, I have always looked to Mahatma Gandhi as an inspiration, because he embodies the kind of transformational change that can be made when ordinary people come together to do extraordinary things,” he wrote in a yet to be published article in the ethnic India Abroad newspaper.

”That is why his portrait hangs in my Senate office; to remind me that real results will not just come from Washington, they will come from the people,” he said in the article, excerpts of which were provided in a write-up on Friday.

That is why, he said, ”I am proud to have the longstanding support of so many Indian Americans in all aspects of my campaign, as well as the endorsements of leading elected Indian American lawmakers.”

Isn’t it a shame that there are no figures in American history that Mr. Obama can look to for inspiration and guidance. Alas, he is far too sophisticated for such provincialism.

But it’s no wonder Mr. Obama wants to bomb Pakistan. Still, I thought he his campaign called Hillary the “Punjab candidate“?

Oh well, obviously it’s the Indians’ turn to be pandered to. Let’s hope they don’t know any history.

After all, Gandhi preached “passive resistance” for the Jews against their Nazi captors, and we see how well that worked out.

Similarly, “passive resistance” has been remarkably unsuccessful in the Hindus contretemps with their Muslim friends.

Moreover, Mr. Gandhi was on the side of the Japanese in WWII. So, come to think of it, one can see the resemblance.

In fact, maybe they should keep Mr. Obama away from under-aged girls, just to be on the safe side.

    U NO HOO;…”Did Ghandi buy a million dollar house?…”

    He’s still saving. But then Gandhi’s wife didn’t out-earn him by a 6 to 1 margin either.

Hah! Gandhi looks to YOU for inspiration, oh great one.

Of course, Gandhi actually did a little more than run around making campaign speeches his entire adult life. We’ll see if Barry has any more than that in him.
