Obama, Medvedev To Cut Nuclear Levels

From his secretaries at Reuters:

Obama, Medvedev to reset ties with arms pact

By Oleg Shchedrov And Matt Spetalnick

LONDON (Reuters) – Russia and the United States will pursue a new deal to cut nuclear warheads, presidents Dmitry Medvedev and Barack Obama said on Wednesday, making good on a pledge to rebuild relations from a post-Cold War low.

They said in a joint statement they had ordered negotiators to report first results by July, when Obama will visit Moscow for a summit…

The two leaders, both in their 40s, were meeting for the first time in London on the eve of a G20 summit to discuss the global economic crisis.

They acknowledged lingering differences over last year’s Russia-Georgia war and over U.S. proposals to base parts of a missile shield in Eastern Europe, something Moscow considers a threat to its security.

Those disagreements have badly damaged relations, but the two countries have vowed to "press the reset button" on ties — an aim the planned arms treaty could help them to achieve…

"We are ready to move beyond Cold War mentalities and chart a fresh start in relations between our two countries."

The proposed arms deal would go beyond the 2002 Strategic Offensive Reductions Treaty (SORT), which committed both sides to cutting arsenals to between 1,700 and 2,200 warheads by 2012…

Moscow wants to link the successor treaty to the proposed U.S. missile shield plan, which it strongly opposes.

The two leaders agreed to work together on Afghanistan, urged Iran to restore confidence in the peaceful nature of its atomic program, and expressed concern about an upcoming North Korean rocket launch.

Funny how Reuters has even picked up the Obama/Hillary “reset” lingo on this.

(Which would indicate it wasn’t translated from the Russian.)

But can anyone recall a single agreement that the Soviet Union Russia has actually honored?

We can’t either.

Still, isn’t it fascinating that both men are in their 40s?

Though Reuters failed to mention that Mr. Putin is 56 and Mr. Soros is 78.

Too good not to post here. From American Thinker:

“We know that Obama has a very conventional mind. I have not heard a single novel or even interesting idea from the man over all the months that I’ve listened to him. He clearly has no understanding of classical economics. He doesn’t understand, as Bill Clinton did, the real harm and suffering that welfare dependency has inflicted on black people after LBJ’s War on Poverty. He does not understand the elementary difference between productive and non-productive investment of scarce resources. He has no conception of the damage inflicted by inflation on the poor, more than even on the rest of the country. He has no real understanding of the dizzying complexities of foreign policy — nor does his Secretary of State, who was hardly picked for her competence in foreign affairs.

These are not just rank amateurs, they are willfully ignorant amateurs, who also happen to be grandiose narcissists, and who now have free reign over the levers of power in the United States. We are all watching the Titanic steaming full speed ahead right before that diamond-hard iceberg tears off all the steel rivets from her skin. If you’re not aghast, you’re just not paying attention. ”

    To summarize…..he’s a Moron.

I’m not so sure Mr. Clinton understand this either.

The Republican Congress forced Welfare reform on Clinton.

(And it should be “free rein.”)

But I still agree with the piece’s general sentiments.

    So he’s Jimmy Carter now.

    Shell game of the 80’s?

Well, at least the Reaganites could play such a game…and win.

This captain of the ship of fools thinks, I’m sure, that the Mevedev cocktail is pure and that he actually believes he has impressed him. Rookie written in big-bold letters that glow in the dark.

I’m sure TCO and his entourage are congratulating themselves but I doubt that they realize that Putin, who really runs Russia, thinks that TCO is a fool.
TCO is so far out of his league that it’s ridiculous.
Putin is ex KGB; when he wants power he doesn’t have his cronies dig up dirt on the opposition, he buries them!
This agreement has less staying power than an announcement from TCO himself.
TCO is simply using this as a means to legitimize the neutering of American nuclear deterrence.

First of all Reuters and the rest of the so called press are pathetic. Secondly the O hole is a deluded idiot.

  7. MinnesotaRush says:

The thought bubble atop o-blah-blah likely reads, “Gawd! I can’t believe this crap is so easy! Man, am I good, or what! Wait till I tell shell how easy this was! Gawd am I good!”.

Medvedev’s says, “Putin will crush this kid. Him and his silly reset button. This is just too easy”.

  8. Warmonger Infidel says:

I once had a man tell me he would rather have a lazy smart guy working for him than a hard working dummy. The hard working dummy will always get you in trouble. The lazy smart guy will always figure out a way to do it right.
    That being said……

President Bush did a lot of things right, but he was dead wrong when he thought he could trust Putin. As much as Obama wants to distance himself from Bush’s policies, you would think he’d be smart enough to know that Putin’s butt boy Medvedev is not negotiating from a position of honesty. This man we call President isn’t smart or even half-bright. He only thinks he is. And that makes him the most dangerous man in the world at the moment.

“So he’s Jimmy Carter now…” I wish! He’s more like Mussolini: “Everything within the state, nothing outside the state, nothing against the state” or “Fascism conceives of the State as an absolute, in comparison with which all individuals or groups are relative, only to be conceived in their relation to the State”…and looking forward: “This is the epitaph I want on my tomb: ‘Here lies one of the most intelligent animals who ever appeared on the face of the Earth'”.

Maybe the Russians are planning to buy up our debt and reallllly get the ball rolling on their agenda…

$4Trillion doesn’t grow on trees and China has a minimum rate of return expectation, of which the US T$’s will fall below.

    Greetings, slaves!

It is I, Medvedev, current President of Russia and future Master of World – I am talking now to you!

I am now talking because I am sending important message!

Listen, doomed pigs – some world leaders come to you with outstretched hand of peace, some come with happy smiles on face, some come bearing flowers and gifts.

I am not such person! I am strong man! I am coming to you with angry face of anger and with clenched fist of fightingness. I have no words to say except these: Do not mess with Russia!

Russia is mighty land! Russia is more than just country of peoples with diminished life expectancy, criminal oligarchs and prostituted women – nyet!

Thanks to oil and natural gas contracts with shortsighted Western countries, Russia is joke country no more!

Russia use your money to rebuild mighty armies! Soon we are having subs that not catch on fire or sink self with own torpedo, soon we are having aeroplanes that not need good shove to get off ground, having soldiers who can fight other soldiers, not just disarmed womens and childrens, soon sky is full of mighty Sputniks to rain death on enemies of Motherland!

Russia is country on the grow (get pun? Ha ha! Is funny), so you keep out of our way, Western dogs. You do as told and you not get hurt – at least not for now, hokay?

Good. I glad we are having this little talk.

    Your friend
