Obama Now Fighting Abuse Pix Release

From a peeved Associated Press:

Obama seeks to block release of abuse photos

By Jennifer Loven, AP White House Correspondent

WASHINGTON – In a reversal, President Barack Obama is fighting the release of dozens of new photos showing U.S. personnel allegedly abusing prisoners in Iraq and Afghanistan, a White House official said Wednesday.

Obama’s decision came after the top military commanders in Iraq and Afghanistan told the president they feared the release of the photos could endanger their troops.

Obama decided he did not feel comfortable with the release and last week instructed his legal team to challenge it in court, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the president’s decision had not yet been made public.

Obama has instructed administration lawyers to make the case that the national security implications of such a release have not been fully presented to the court, the official said.

The president informed Gen. Ray Odierno, commander of U.S. troops in Iraq, of his decision during a White House meeting on Tuesday.

Gen. David Petraeus, the senior commander for both wars, had also weighed in, as had Gen. David McKiernan, the top general in Afghanistan. Defense Secretary Robert Gates fired McKiernan on Monday for unrelated reasons…

Federal appeals judges have ruled the photos should be released

The American Civil Liberties Union, which is suing the government for the release, criticized the decision.

"The decision to suppress the photos is profoundly inconsistent with the promise of transparency that President Obama has made time after time," ACLU lawyer Jameel Jaffer said

Of course this does not mean the photos will not be released.

After all, there is a judge involved. Probably a judge who is very much beholding to the ACLU.

But Mr. Obama has managed to get on the record as being against it, so that any soldiers deaths will not be on his head.

Barry is such a child, and is obviously so ill-equiped at leading real men that he is fumbling around this issue, in hopes of emerging as steely-eyed Commander-In-Chief, somehow. By suddenly reversing his “show-them-everything” mentality, he is motivated by one, if not all, of these resaons:

    1) he hopes to appear as concerned for our troops’ safety for once;
    2) the pictures show nothing the average frat boy hasn’t experienced;
    3) he needs to calm the waters in the intelligence community, and by “standing up for them”, he may forestall any further disclosure of CIA eit (waterboarding, etc) briefings Pelosi and other high-ranking Democrats were given.

    SG –

Fox just had an ACLU lawyer on giving his take of the situation. He clearly stated “Obama is not living up to the promises he made to us”, of which Martha asked the follow up Q: “What type of promises were made to you?” He blathered about “America’s safety and the so called transparency Obama talks about.

It’s scary times folks, very, very scary. Not only ACLU’s input, but the fact Bambi started this charade for political purposes, realized it was not welcomed by Americans through ad nauseum polls, then turned a 180 for political reasons.

American and military safety play 5th fiddle to Bambi’s handlers.

Spot on, Steve. It’s The Moron getting on the record being on both sides of the fence at the same time.

Was there ever a time when we had a political leader who placed the welfare and security of the country above his own political well-being?

Oh yeh, that was 113 days ago.

    Doesn’t time fly by?

Yes it does and he knows what happened last time the slimes put pictures out. Now, he’s talking about this very subject. Wow, “Closed investigations of alleged abuse”. I don’t condone Abu Grahib but I didn’t find the pictures “painful” as he obviously did. Now, he’s passing on the buck to Bush again saying that this process has been completed and appropriate action has been taken. Hmmh, I think he got the big message that men and women in the sandbox would die and that would be on his head. Now he’s yapping about the Army Field Manual, such a genius. I very seriously doubt he cares that much about the safety of the troops, he just doesn’t want the blood of those who serve on his hands at this time.

BULL….he just wants everyone to stop asking for the AF1 manifest list!!

Where’s that list of names, “BoBo”?

I too smell smoke and see mirrors, the pic’s will surface and the fence-rider will wash his hands. The only thing that’s transparent is a major lack of leadership. Shameless.

  5. MinnesotaRush says:

Do ya s’pose o-blah-blah can play tennis with himself, too???

He seems very capable of being on both sides of the “court” quickly.

    Just askin’ ya know.

Wirenut, my first thoughts exactly, as there has been a consistant pattern of smokescreens. Expect, the opposite. What amazes me in thumbing through Obomies writings on political propaganda tactics, he uses them. Rumors and beliefs the economy is bad, leads fear and people become beggars and to “a new standard of need and want” – Dreams 380-381.

The Blame game… In 97 the “Democrats would shout and holler and fulminate,…

“Over time, an implacable anger spread throughthe Democratic Caucus and my colleagues would carefully record every slight and abuse meted out by the GOP. Six years later, Democrats took control,..”
Republicans failed and failed, any comeback try the Democrats “selected them as targets, flooding their districts with mail accusing them of malfeasance, corruption, incompetence, and moral trupitude.” Obama said he was active in this; “I understood politics as a full-contact sport,…” Abonimation of Hope prologue.

I don’t for one minute believe that Obalmy is being “honest” here. There is a game plan behind the scenes. He doesn’t do anything that will benefit this country.

After doing everything possible to dismantle our capitalistic society, seems mighty odd that all of a sudden he would do something that would protect our military. Especially after doing all he can to gut the military budget etc.

I smell something rotten in Denmark as they say.

I don’t know what it is yet he is pulling here, but it will come out in the near future. I think some of the thoughts here today are very interesting and very possible.

But one thing IS clear…whatever his game plan, it will benefit him and his agenda…and nothing else! Time will tell.

  8. wirenut says:

IMHO. This man-cub’s agenda is as easy to read as a stop sign. Fool all of the people all of the time. It’s just that simple, and he’s not that smart .

  9. canary says:

He’s lying or covering for his own. More evidence Pelosi lied? Evidence the photo’s are tame, compared to the torture tactics we do to our own soldiers in preparing them if they are captured and interrogated? Maybe his new Top General that oversaw the torturing in Iraq, trained the interrogators, or convinced Obama the black gangs in Chicago do worse to each other.
