Panetta and Joint Chiefs Chair: Obama Talked to Them Only Once on Night of Benghazi Attack

By Terence P. Jeffrey | February 7, 2013

(CNSNews.com) — Under questioning by Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R.-N.H.) and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R.-S.C.) in the Senate Armed Services Committee today, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta and Gen. Martin Dempsey, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, testified that they spoke to President Barack Obama only once on the evening of Sept. 11, 2012, when the U.S. facilities in Benghazi, Libya were under attack by terrorists.

Panetta and Dempsey had a pre-scheduled meeting with Obama at 5:00 p.m. Washington, D.C. time on Sept. 11. The meeting lasted about thirty minutes. After it was over, they did not hear from Obama again or anybody else at the White House.

You even have to wonder if they hadn’t already been meeting with Obama on a different subject, would they have ever talked to Obama about the Benghazi attack?

"Did you have any further communications with him that night?" Ayotte asked Panetta.

"No," said Panetta.

"Did you have any other further communications? Did he ever call you that night to say how are things going, what’s going on, where’s the consulate?" asked Ayotte.

"No," said Panetta. "But we were aware as we were getting information about what was taking place there, particularly when we got information that the ambassador, his life had been lost, we were aware that that information went to the White House."

"Did you communicate with anyone else at the White House that night?" asked Ayotte.

"No," said Panetta.

"No one else called you to say: How are things going?" asked Ayotte.

"No," said Panetta.

Again, as we have previously noted, David Axelrod claimed on national TV right before the election that "[W]hen word of the attack came, the President was meeting with his top national security folks. He was talking to them well into the night. He was in touch with them during the day, as – during the next day as well. So, there is no question about the fact that he was focused on this.”

Axelrod also claimed that "[E]verything was put in motion that he could put in motion. Everything – every conversation that needed to be had was being had between him and his top national security officials.”

For the record, the attack on Benghazi continued for more than six hours after Obama was told about it. But he somehow had the foresight to put everything into motion that could be put in motion before most of it happened.

Also, for the record, not much seems to have been put in motion. Since there was no timely rescue attempt. And, in fact, the only rescuers had been told to ‘stand down.’

A Defense Department timeline says that Panetta and Dempsey had been informed of the terrorist attack in Benghazi at 4:32 p.m–28 minutes before they went into their meeting with Obama. At today’s hearing, Panetta said he informed Obama of the attack when they entered their 5:00 p.m. meeting. That was one hour and 18 minutes after the attack started and while it was ongoing.

Gen. Dempsey told Sen. Graham that the 5:00 p.m. meeting with Obama lasted about a half hour

How come all of these Benghazi timelines have been so full of errors? These kind of details should be the easiest things in the world to get right, given all the logs involved in top White House meetings.

According to a CIA timeline provided by a senior intelligence official, as well as to the account of the events of Sept. 11, 2012 reported in the State Department Accountability Review Board report, there were two phases to the terrorist attacks on U.S. personnel in Benghazi.

The initial phase ran from 3:42 p.m. Washington, D.C., when the terrorists first stormed the State Department’s Benghazi compound, time until 7:00 p.m. Washington, D.C. time. There was a break in the attacks that lasted for four about four hours and fifteen minutes, until approximately 11:15 p.m. Washington, D.C., time. Then the terrorists launched another attack that lasted about 11 minutes, until 11:26 p.m. Washington, D.C. time–or until about six hours and 26 minutes after Panetta had informed the president the attacks under way and he and Gen. Dempsey had their one conversation with the president about them

Six hours. And nothing was done.

Even though, according to Axelrod, thanks to Obama, "[E]verything was put in motion that he could put in motion. Everything – every conversation that needed to be had was being had between him and his top national security officials.”

In any case, this news is being completely ignored by our news media watchdogs. Probably because it makes a total lie out of what the administration and Axelrod were saying after the attack. And it also makes a lie out of Hillary’s testimony.

Especially her claim that they were ‘so busy doing everything they could to save lives,’ they didn’t have time to figure out that the video wasn’t to blame for the attack. But ‘what difference does it make?’

Obama did tell America to blame him for Benghazi.

If anyone knew the dangers in Africa it was Obama who kept consistent correspondence with his father and relatives in Africa’s violence aside their visits between the two countries. This began at an early age and continued before and at the time of his marriage, as Senator, and being elected President.

Problem is very often when really bad things happen the top leaders do not want to know what is going down or serious problems. It’s much easier to say no one told him.

One of Clinton’s intelligence leaders was on a talk show joking that small plane that hit the white house was him trying to get Clinton’s attention. He said Clinton avoided intelligence and of course with the Monica scandal, Clinton did not talk to anyone, except starting a war to take attention off him.

  3. Benghazi………….please submit any information you have have that we need to expose so we can get the truth. The Obama regime is with holding information and it has been six months now:

I’d say the Obama administration pre-election did not want America knowing they’d lied for 4 years that specifically Al-Qaeda was defeated, when in fact Al-Qaeda expanded.

I see no difference between Al-Qaeda and “Islamic extremists” and saw a news anchor reading the news who was giving an update on “Islamic extremists” correct her self and change it to “Islamists” so I think the new easier trend a new name for the “militants” instead of long politically correct names.

Insane to see in America stores label items “imported from international middle-east” or “imported from middle-east” when the products boxes are labeled “made in China”

Uh. oh. I now wonder if ‘China is importing products from the middle-east’ and then sending them to the US with untruthful labels “made in China”. I think I’ll write the store chain and ask them. I thought maybe the store was trying to appeal to middle-easterners. This same store often puts up labels this product is illegal in California.

Anymore Leather cowboy boots brands are putting labels that it has ingredient illegal in California. They joke on their web sites they do it to be safe and as long as you don’t eat your boots shouldn’t worry.

So, I looked up the law in California and the ingredients if one of 900 ingredients that drinking water in California must have low levels of.

And just because the last time a product was made or imported from one country doesn’t mean the next time or batch comes from another country.

This especially a pain when it comes to food.

Planters Nuts is now growing their cashew nuts in Africa to help them financially, but you won’t find where any nuts are grown on packaging. Consider the water in Africa and Mexico in your food. China just may be safer.
