Obama Promises 600K+ Stimulus Jobs

From the still trying hard to have faith Associated Press:

Obama promises more than 600,000 stimulus jobs

By Brett Blackledge, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama promised Monday to deliver more than 600,000 jobs through his $787 billion stimulus plan this summer, with federal agencies pumping billions into public works projects, schools and summer youth programs.

Obama is ramping up his stimulus program this week even as his advisers are ramping down expectations about when the spending plan will affect a continuing rise in the nation’s unemployment.

Many of the stimulus plans that Obama announced Monday already were in the works, including hundreds of maintenance projects at military bases, about 1,600 state road and airport improvements, and federal money states budgeted for 135,000 teachers, principals and school support staff.

The administration had always viewed the summer as a peak for stimulus spending, as better weather permitted more public works construction and federal agencies had processed requests from states and others.

But Obama now promises an accelerated pace of federal spending over the next few months to boost the economy and produce jobs.

"We have a long way to go on our road to recovery but we are going the right way," Obama said in a written statement prepared for his public announcement of the additional summer stimulus activity. "Our measure of progress is the progress the American people see in their own lives. And until that progress is steady and solid, we’re going to keep moving forward. We will not grow complacent or rest. Surely and steadily, we will turn this economy around," the statement said…

Just how much of an impact Obama’s recovery program had on the pace of job losses is up for debate. Obama has claimed as many as 150,000 jobs saved or created by his stimulus plan so far, even as government reports have shown the economy has lost more than 1.6 million jobs since Congress approved funding for the program in February…

Obama initially offered his stimulus plan as a way to put people back to work, a promise that 3.5 million jobs would be saved or created. The administration’s predictions that unemployment would rise no higher than 8 percent already have been shattered, leaving Obama’s advisers to caution that job growth takes time, even as recovery spending intensifies.

Federal agencies will release billions of stimulus dollars to states in the coming months.

Health and Human Services will provide funding for 1,129 health centers to provide expanded service for 300,000 patients; Interior will begin improvements on 107 national parks; Veterans Affairs will start work on 90 medical centers in 38 states; the Justice Department will fund 5,000 law enforcement jobs; the Agriculture Department will begin 200 new rural waste and water system projects; and the Environmental Protection Agency will begin or accelerate the cleanup of 20 Superfund sites.

At the same time federal money for these projects is released, the nation’s unemployment rate likely will continue to increase, said Austan Goolsbee, a member of the White House Council of Economic Advisers…

According to our calculator spending $787,000,000,000 for 600,000 jobs figures out to a cost of $131,166 per job.

And, mind you, we are talking about “summer youth programs.”

Meanwhile, it’s a sad testimony to Mr. Obama’s efforts that even his most diehard acolytes are questioning his miracles:

Just how much of an impact Obama’s recovery program had on the pace of job losses is up for debate. Obama has claimed as many as 150,000 jobs saved or created by his stimulus plan so far, even as government reports have shown the economy has lost more than 1.6 million jobs since Congress approved funding for the program in February.

And even his words:

The administration’s predictions that unemployment would rise no higher than 8 percent already have been shattered, leaving Obama’s advisers to caution that job growth takes time, even as recovery spending intensifies.

Funny how this prediction has never been mentioned before.

But whatever happened to the formerly promised 3,500,000 jobs he was promising?

Even if these 600,000 are somehow created, Mr. Obama will still fall 2,900,000 jobs short of his original assurances.

Bambi is the master of the “peanut under the shell game”. Everything is based on future “results”, disguised by rhetoric. Everything “is going to happen”, with emphasis on “going to” not “has”.

Results and reality be damned – by continuing to promise everything under the sun, with MSM holding the bag – he can continue this charade, while using the oh so effective “I inhereted this mess” for awhile.

But the tipping points are evident: 10%+ unemployment, flat market, no new job creation (Yahoo – please stop running “top jobs/sectors that are hiring!!! every day), low demand for treasuries, inflation, foreign distaste and nuclear proliferation will ffinally wake the masses up – but at what cost?

“Even if these 600,000 are somehow created, Mr. Obama will still fall 2,900,000 jobs short of his original assurances”

Those 2,900,00 jobs will be coming….IF he gets his way about everything he wants…and IF he gets another four years….and IF you count the 4,000,000 MORE jobs that will be lost due to his dismantling of our capitalist system and IF you stick your head up your backside and IF you don’t questions of him and IF……IF…..IF….

Reminds me of the “success propaganda” during the communist rule in Poland. Everything was cool and dandy, a bed of roses crossed with paradise on earth according to the party officials. The country was swimming in milk and honey (Polish saying for being very prosperous) and all the economic indicators were going through the roof in the communist bloc.

Of course it was all lie. As is anything Mob-ama says.

We all knew 100 days ago that the “crisis” mentality and verbiage was there for effect and that this new “crisis” is the same, only worse. And, as O-blame-a plays the “not my fault” game, even the media is starting to notice the groove getting worn into this one track.

But, of course, he won’t be happy until the nation is so broke that in order to get anything, we will ALL have to have a chit from the government. His plan may be all along to bankrupt this nation, all under the “I’m lovin’ it” agenda and then high-tail it someplace else if he’s not re-elected.

For, if, as pdsand says, that Blammo has a vested interest in getting a second term then the elected foreigner is not really taking a lesson from history, which is normal for him, since he learned it from Wright, et al.

While the nation plummets further into economic ruin, and he tries to plug up the holes in the boat that he made while shooting at a mouse, the realization will never hit him that, well….he may have inherited a few brushfires but putting them out with a flamethrower is not the best plan.

How does Obama expect to create 600,000 new stimulus jobs when private sector jobs are required to pay for each new government job?

    • RightWinger says:

Lil Barry has moved past the chilrden and grand children and onwards to great-great grandchildren to pay for those 600,000 “youth” jobs.

Incidently, the cost of $131,166 per job sounds about right. That breaks down to a summer job that will pay the youth about $1,166 and the other $130,000 will go into the coffers of Demorat politicians who will be helping to sponsor these jobs in their districts.

  7. proreason says:

Obama plans to create 600K gubamint jobs. For 2009, the average gubamint annual wage is projected to be $75,419. None of those people can possibly ever be fired. Few, other than those involved in National Security, produce anything. They merely count things and enforce useless regulations.
    http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2009/01/prez-elect-make.html
    http://www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2009/05/12/business/econwatch/entry5007862.shtml

With gold-plated gubamint benefits, including inflation adjusted pensions for life, the true annual cost of each job will be about $150K. But let’s be highly conservative, and say each job only costs $100,000 (that’s a benefit load much lower than private-sector jobs, so it’s laugably conservative)

The average annual wage in the US is $40,405
    http://www.ssa.gov/OACT/COLA/AWI.html

In 2006, Americans paid federal taxes, on average, of 20.6% of their income http://economix.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/04/08/how-much-americans-actually-pay-in-taxes/

Therefore, IT TAKES A MINIMUM OF 12 REAL JOBS TO SUPPORT EACH MAKE-WORK GUBAMINT JOB.

“The number of unemployed persons increased by 787,000 to 14.5 million in May, and the unemployment rate rose to 9.4 percent.” 14,500,000 / .094 means that full employment is 154 million. (Note that more than twice as many jobs were lost in May as the msm reported. What they reported is something called “nonfarm employment” which is a much smaller number).
    http://www.bls.gov/news.release/empsit.nr0.htm

If The Moron succeeds in creating these 600,000 gubamint jobs, it will take 72 million NEW real jobs to support them. That’s AFTER the 7 million lost jobs have been recovered

In other words, to support The Moron’s useless make-work new gubamint jobs, real employment will need to increase by 54% from today.

    Incredible, isn’t it?

See how easy it is to be POTUS when you have never done a lick of work in your life. You can wiggle you fingers an persuade people you a creating prosperity when in fact you are putting the country in a hole it can NEVER EVER DIG OUT OF.

    • badcrow says:

This is the wasteful creation of no work positions. Merely a smokescreen to hide the billions of stimulus money being siphoned of the top by the Dems and their liberal buddies. Local attempts to find out about the availability of stimulus funds or new “gubment” jobs are proving difficult around here. No such jobs to be found, no one knows anything about them. Stimulus funds? Infrastructure industries around here are closing left and right, and whenever I inquire about rumors of available funds, I’m met with misdirection and lies as all of the money is getting used up by “consultants,” “studies,” and other various Democrat scams to skim wealth off of our backs. There is no accountability as no one knows where the money is going! No one will say, ’cause thay are stealing it.

    On another note;

    Health and Human Services will provide funding for 1,129 health centers to provide expanded service for 300,000 patients;

Borrowing SG’s calculator again, that’s 265 patients per center and figuring the “centers” are only open M to F minus holidays, that’s less that a patient per day. Not much bang for our buck there but since which cold day in h*ll has anything the Democrats undertaken been cost effective.
BTW and FWIW, I’ve read quotes from the AMA and other health care authorities that the average private practice MD treats about 250 patients per month.

TCO’s administration continues to baffle the unwashed masses with outright lies and propaganda, helped along of course, by their co-conspirators in the MSM.

I blogged about this a week or so ago. I worked on a publication that was the transcript of a “sustainable transportation” contest for junior high-school aged kids that was held the end of March. It’s traditional to have the secretary of transportation or one of his minions speak. In the past, Norm Mineta or his rep kept political remarks to a minimum and did not take questions from the kids, at least of a political nature.

This year, the new secretary of transportation offered a pretty juvenile opening remark and then asked the children (participating via videoconference) if they had any questions. Go to my blog to get the entire exchange, but here’s a bit of his propaganda for kids.

“Our economy is very bad right now. There are a lot of people out of work and at DOT, we’re trying to help people get back to work in good-paying jobs and the president is also working with the banks. He’s also working with the real-estate people to try and get both of those industries back into a position where they can really be strong again and the combination of what the president’s doing with the banking industry, with the real-estate industry, what we’re doing at DOT with the money that Congress has given us, you’re going to see an enormous number of people working in good-paying jobs and hopefully getting our economy back to where it once was, where we don’t have so much unemployment and people are working.”

Was this said to teach the kids anything, or an opportunity at spewing the message? And am I being oversensitive?

Where are these jobs coming from, CCC, WPA? Is our beloved leader (sic) going to bring back all of FDR’s wonderful SOCIALIST programs? Inquiring minds want to know.

  12. badcrow says:

Well, here’s how it will work…
Most of the so-called 600,000 jobs will be low wage, “little work” positions. Picking up trash on the streets, neighborhood beautification, inner city neighborhood watch, etc.,etc. These will be part time, no benefit, temporary jobs which will require the State governments to fund them when the Federal dollars run out.
Some of the 600,000 jobs will be positions with ACORN and other “Community” organizations. Where they will be used to promote the policies and agendas of the Obammy administration. These will also be low wage, temporary jobs.
ALL of these jobs will be preferentially given to various minority groups.
The majority of the funds used in this boondogle will go to Obammy supporters who will be hired as managers and administrators of these programs and payed exorbitant salaries under the guise of “non-profit” status. These admins and managers will in turn funnel most of the funding to other non-profits run by their friends where the funds will be skimmed and kickbacks re-routed through other “non-profits” and distributed among the party faithful. More of our tax money will disappear in “consulting fees” and “contracts” for individuals and businesses friendly to the Party. Numerous studies and surveys and white papers will be generously funded for projects that will mysteriously “run out” of “funding” after the “studies are done. These projects and programs will then quietly die out, never to begin as they are merely “shell-games” used as an excuse to gobble up funds.
This is how it will go.
Don’t believe me? Just go to your local community government and ask them about job programs and stimulous money…You’ll get the King Hell runaround from those crooks. You’ll be swimming in lies! Try it, you’ll see.

  13. 12 Gauge Rage says:

A lot of these jobs will probably be in the retail sector. Which to me doesn’t count for much due to the high turnaround. And since most retail is entry level in pay it doesn’t amount to a whole lot. But I guess for the government number crunchers a job is a job regardless of whether the job affords you upward mobility to a higher quality of life.

    • badcrow says:

Mmm, retail. The bread and butter of the “Service Economy.” Are you kidding me? Nobody is buying anything and there are no retail jobs. (With the exception of Wal-Mart, and you don’t have one of those on every corner-so the numbers are limited.)
Malls are closing down-turning into “ghost-mall” shells of our once robust commerce. A short ride up the local highway (until the election and resultant stimulus, a thriving economic corridor) reveals vacant strip malls and retail centers, closed car lots, empty restaurants and the borderline homeless, holding liquidation sale signs along the ramps, dressed as Uncle Sam! No my friend, no hope will be found in retail. Not for a very long time. As less people buy things, more folks lose their jobs which leads to less people buying things which leads to…well you get the picture now. Also, extensions on unemployment are running out so even more folks will be dumped into the job hunt (which will be sort of like finding an elk in downtown Philly.) Also remember that the actual unemployment numbers are far higher than the “G” reports–their numbers don’t include people who have stopped looking, and are drastically inflated by part-time, minumum wage, no bennies jobs that folks are fighting over right now. add to this the current and very “hush-hush” collapse of the Commercial real estate market and you have a recipe for out right chaos. The Socialist/Statist Cabal that orchestrated this collapse was very thorough, as they have destroyed the World’s strongest economy in less than six months. It’s going to get a lot worse than this my friend. A lot of folks who spend their free time posting on these sites will probably end up armed and on the run or in a “mental” (re-education) facility. It’s happening right now bro. Look around you.

  14. 12 Gauge Rage says:

Where exactly in the country do you live? Just curious. Because where I live people are still out shopping and the restaurants, even the expensive ones are still packed. I know there’s a recession going on but I don’t see too much evidence of it here. And this isn’t a rich city I live in either. But it is a military city. And a red state. Yes, people are armed but they were in that state of condition long before George W. even considered running for the White House. Next to Friday night football, Texans love their guns.

    • badcrow says:

Central PA., near our commonwealth’s “Great” Capital. I live in a relatively affluent neighborhood so there are still folks buying some things, and we are a “Military” area. Naval Support is here. But folks I know at DOD are taking substantial pay cuts to save their jobs. 20% in one case for a high level tech worker. I don’t exagerrate about the empty malls and stores and the closing businesses are a matter of record. Harley in nearby York is leaving. A large and storied Carlisle company that supplied GM for 70 plus years, gone….Hershey sent most of their chocolate making to Mexico–those jobs, gone. A local trucking giant shut it’s doors recently. Barnes and Noble, a few weeks from completing a new giant store that was to be a flagship of a growing Mall, stopped construction and backed out, leaving an almost finished store and a huge vacancy that can’t be filled. The Market where I run my business is experiencing a huge drop off in consumer traffic, as are others in the area. Local retailer and restaurateurs are offering multiple coupons and discounts to get people in the door–and it’s not really working. Real estate here is flagging, houses have been on the market 2 or more years, many sellers giving up and offering their homes for rent only to have them still sit empty.
People are on fire here man. A daily 3pm talk show takes callers EVERY DAY that scream into the phone about being over taxed, over governed and fed up to the point that callers regularly say things like, “It’s time for a revolution, you tell me where to show up I’ll fight.” and “TEA Parties accomplish nothing until they become GUN Parties!” I’ve never heard anything like it. Ever. And I’ve been to your great Republic! Talk in the local bars is equally disturbing. Oh, the downtown Gubment crooks tow the line of Our Dear Leader, but outside the city, there is open subversive talk. Some would say crazy, except for the fact that these are your neighbors, they go to your church, shop at your business–these are not crackpots-they are us! Last week my salt of the earth, docile older neighbor ran off a census worker who was trying to get a GPS reading on his address. He was screaming at the guy, waving a shovel in the air and shouting that the Constitution only allows a count, no questions or GPS “Missle coordinates”, as he called them.
Things are bad and getting worse, you’re fortunate to be in the Great Republic of Texas, and we’re both fortunate that we’re not in Baltimore or Detroit. I only hope that nobody sets a major city on fire this summer and gives Chairman Obammy an excuse to impose martial law.

    • proreason says:

It’s only a matter of time until the populace grows tired of the Obammy’s “Let them eat cake” attitude and pulls a Robspierre! I for one would like to see a return of the American Revolutionary standby of the “Tar and Feathers.” Not as lethal as the French version of comeuppance , but just as good for making a point. I’ve got to say though, I’m growing uneasy. I’ve got friends in the military and the rumors they speak of are unerving to say the least.

    • proreason says:

badcrow, I’ve been pointing out the actual unemployment figures for a long time. Earlier in the responses to this article, I had this:

“The number of unemployed persons increased by 787,000 to 14.5 million in May, and the unemployment rate rose to 9.4 percent.” 14,500,000 / .094 means that full employment is 154 million. (Note that more than twice as many jobs were lost in May as the msm reported. What they reported is something called “nonfarm employment” which is a much smaller number).
      http://www.bls.gov/news.release/empsit.nr0.htm

The quote is from the government’s own bls data. But even that data does not count the “discouraged workers” that your article discusses. That gets the unemployment rate up to 16.x%.

But I suspect unemployment is probably even higher than 16%. The census bureau tells us there are 304 million Americans and that 63% are between the ages of 18 and 65, which means there are 191 million Americans of working age.

      http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/00000.html

bls data says there are 140 million currently with jobs (many of whom may be younger than 18 or older than 65, and some of those jobs are probably held by legal and illegal immigrants who aren’t counted in the 304 million Americans). That means at least 26% of working age Americans do not have jobs. Now, some of those are students, some are unable to work, some don’t have to work, and some are retired. Discovering all that data would be a huge task, but somehow, in the current economic climate, I think the true unemployment rate is probably closer to 26% than it is to 16%.

And even that doesn’t count the underemployed…people who have taken part-time jobs or jobs that don’t utilize their skills out of desperation, because they have to have some money to live. And even that may not count some people who have multiple jobs (which may be counted as 2 people employed in the employment figures).

But luckily for his supplicants, the president has already “saved” 150,000 jobs and has plans to “save” 600,000 more.

How can Americans be so stupid?

    • badcrow says:

A great point about the actual numbers Pro! Where’s journalism on this one or on anything anymore? Non-check and No-balance. The desertion of the Fourth Estate
You say “how can Americans be so stupid?” Well that’s complicated. It’s a combination of actual stupidity, which no doubt does exist to some extent, and careful planning. There’s no doubt that the “G” uses well researched and highly refined psychological techniques against the people in the name of misdirection and manipulation. They’ve gained control over Media and apply these techniques 24/7. It’s no coincidence that they’re now dismantling the Newspaper Industry. TV and Internet is much more effective in reducing attention spans and discouraging thought. There is also the infiltration of education, from “Headstart” on through University. Any coincidence that violent radicals like Ayers now “teach” other “teachers?” My suspicions are that a World Socialist Cabal is in effect–logic dictates it. Curious and dubious policy decisions by recent administrations reveal underlying motives that cannot be explained by incompetence. I’m not promoting a far-out conspiracy theory here, merely collusion and common financial interest among the architects. Reason compels this explanation. So all of this goes on while Americans concern themselves with the everyday challenges of dealing with the constant manipulation and the business of “life” while they numb themselves with 300 channels of cable, violent video, vapid pop culture and anti-depressant “soma.” Just what will it take to awaken a new generation of “Founders?” How much misery will we swallow, how much liberty will we toss away? How far will this go before average Americans decide they’ve had enough?

    • artpa says:

can i get some of that “soma” for the next 4 years?

    • proreason says:

“My suspicions are that a World Socialist Cabal is in effect–logic dictates it. ”

badcrow, you are fairly new here.

I’ve been advocating a very similar position for about a year, and write about it frequently at S&L. My view is that communists made a deliberate strategic decision in the 40’s and 50’s to attack the US through the education system and media, since they knew they could not win a military confrontation. The strategists are long-gone, but Ayers and the like are the second generation, and 95% of the news media is the 3rd generation. They don’t even know it. Direct ties to the old architects are broken. It was never documented. Now the universities and media are filled with people raised on the mother’s milk of radical socialism.

I also believe that the Moron is a creation of the 2nd generation radicals. He is the 3rd step in the strategy….the demagogue. He was carefully selected, trained and protected for decades. There were probably dozens like him. He just happened to be the one who emerged. All of this has been carefully mapped out in a decades-long process. Every word that comes out of Obama’s mouth is scripted by the puppet-master. He’s the front-man. Nothing else.

Steve (the site host) frequently publishes articles that show how closely the Moron’s agenda aligns with that of the Communist Party of the US. Something like 47 out of 50 agenda points have been accomplished, and only 1 (Afghanistan) is in direct opposition.

I’m also interested in discussing strategies to disrupt these efforts, as I believe that many free men working together in even the smallest of ways can be effective in thwarting this coup. Above all, humans crave Liberty-a condition of God’s grace- and will defend it if their eyes be opened.
