Obama Promises More Nuclear Weapons Cuts

From the Agence France-Presse:

Obama pledges nuclear cuts, warns N. Korea and Iran

President Barack Obama said Monday the United States would further cut its own nuclear stockpiles, as he warned North Korea and Iran to back down over their atomic plans.

That will show them! He should also cut the Pentagon’s budget by another trillion dollars, if he really wants them to sit up and listen.

Obama delivered a hard-hitting address in Seoul before a nuclear security summit opened, seeking to build global momentum in the drive to eliminate or safeguard material that could be used to make thousands of bombs.

He said major progress had been made since the initiative was launched two years ago, citing a number of countries that had removed their stockpiles and forecasting more commitments from other nations during the two-day summit

The US is getting rid of even more of their weapons. Meanwhile, the Russians and Chinese are helping their allies, the Iranians and the North Koreans, make more weapons.

This is "major progress," and it bodes well for the future peace of the world.

He said that, with more than 1,500 deployed nuclear weapons and 5,000 warheads, the United States had "more nuclear weapons than we need"

Everyone always has more weapons than they need, until they need them.

This would seem to be confirmation of the article that we noted back in February, that claimed Obama wants to strip our deployed nuclear weapons to 300. Which would be an 80 percent reduction.

Obama again told North Korea on Monday to abandon its nuclear ambitions, warning its erratic and provocative behaviour would not be rewarded.

"By now it should be clear, your provocations and pursuit of nuclear weapons have not achieved the security you seek, they have undermined it," he said, in what he called a direct address to the North’s new leadership.

"And know this — there will be no more rewards for provocations. Those days are over. This is the choice before you. This is the decision you must make."

Aren’t we giving them billions in aid and getting rid of our nuclear weapons as fast as we can? Aren’t those rewards?

Obama also warned Iran in his speech that time was running out to resolve the standoff over its nuclear programme through diplomacy.

"There is time to solve this diplomatically… but time is short. Iran must act with the seriousness and sense of urgency that this moment demands," he said…

At which the Iranians laughed.

Obama met separately with Chinese President Hu Jintao and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev ahead of the start of the summit Monday evening

Obama said the United States would also seek talks with Russia on a new step — reducing not only strategic nuclear warheads, but also tactical weapons meant for use on the battlefield and warheads in reserve.

He said he would discuss the issue with Russia’s incoming President Vladimir Putin when they meet in May.

Actually, Obama promised Putin that he would be a lot more ‘flexible’ after he is re-elected.

Then he will be able to give away the store completely.

Future News: The EPA today announced that
    continued concerns of environmentalists have
convinced them to ban the use of wood to make
more arrows and spears. Pentagon analysts are
concerned that this will impair the United States’
ability to defend its remaining territory along the
East Coast. Decisions on wood use in the past
have led to the demise of our “Wooden Walls”
and left the Navy with little to do, thereby justifying
the budget cuts of that Department. Meanwhile,
beyond the Allegheny forts, our former territory
is said to be enjoying unprecidented prosperity
under the enlightened rule of the Tex-Mex-Canada
Empire. Of course, this cannot be independently
verified, as US meda are banned from setting
foot there under pain of tarring and feathering.
