Obama ‘Clears’ Self, Staff In Blago Case

From the hard-hitting Los Angeles Times:

Obama clears himself and staff in Blagojevich case

The president-elect says an internal review shows there were no inappropriate conversations with the Illinois governor about who would fill the vacant Senate seat.

Reporting from Washington and Chicago — Barack Obama said Monday that an internal investigation had found his staff had no inappropriate conversations with Illinois Gov. Rod R. Blagojevich over who would succeed the president-elect in the Senate.

But Obama said the review of his staff’s contacts would not be made public until next week at the request of federal prosecutors, who are investigating whether Blagojevich put Obama’s Senate seat up for sale.

“I had no contact with the governor’s office, and I had no contact with anybody in the governor’s office,” Obama said at a news conference called to introduce his energy and environment team. He said the review showed the Blagojevich scandal “had nothing to do with my office.” …

The scandal has become a distraction for Obama during what had been a smooth transition

Obama’s transition office said in a statement Monday that the internal review had “affirmed” the president-elect’s comments that he had not talked directly with Blagojevich or his office and that Obama’s staff “was not involved in inappropriate discussions with the governor or his staff.”

Obama has promised to release the review. But he said it would not be made public until next week at the request of U.S. Atty. Patrick J. Fitzgerald, who is leading the Blagojevich investigation.

“Those facts will be forthcoming to all of you in due course,” Obama said at the news conference. “We just want to make sure we’re not interfering with an ongoing and active investigation.”

Fitzgerald released a statement backing up Obama’s account that a delay had been requested.

“After the president-elect announced an internal transition team investigation, the United States attorney’s office requested a brief delay of the release of a report of that investigation to conduct certain interviews,” Fitzgerald said in the statement…

Political strategists said the delay would be helpful to Obama, moving the release of new information into a week when people will be more focused on Christmas

The appalling thing is not that Mr. Obama would have the chutzpah to pronounce him and his staff as innocent as the driven snow. (If that is not a racist simile.)

No, the appalling thing is that our watchdog media will let him get away with it.

In fact, they will do everything in their power to give him cover.

I love how Mr Innocent is releasing the records pertaining to this case ‘sometime next week’. In other words, during Christmas Week. It’s not like he’s trying to dump it out when it’s unlikely anyone will notice it now, is it?

Obama embracing yet another Clinton tactic…

“Obama’s staff “was not involved in inappropriate discussions with the governor or his staff” ”

It all depends on what the definition of inappropriate is.

Even the Left is beginning to get uncomfortable with all this. On the MSNBC show Morning Joe (which offered an almost endless stream of pundits and pols who were completely in the tank for Obama in the last five months), the uncomfortable squirming is positively entertaining. It’s blindingly obvious that there is a corrupt double standard: the army of reporters sent to Wasilla, Alaska, scrutinizing Sara Palin and paying cash for dirt; and the veritable blackout in “Chicagoland”, as Joe Scarborough put it.

The more the ReichsMedia indulges in this, the worse it will be for them over time.

Things were going great for 6 weeks until we discovered Obama and his whole cabinet are crooks. It’s very distracting.

Has anyone ever known a politician who investigated their self or their staff and found any wrong-doing? I didn’t think so….

Anyway, I think that this has been the best thing to ever happen to the Orifice of President Elect. I mean, at least he’s not running around acting like he’s the president anymore.

The problem in America is and has been: The masses are asses.

The fact this useless Charlatan even got elected lets us know the results of a liberal driven educational system: apathy.

To think Bambi is a month away from being innaugurated – and is already dealing with fraud, ethics and a huge scandal lets us know how damaging the ’08 election will be. Affirmative action and entitlement policy has never worked in America, yet we are playing Russian roulette with the highest office in the country.

Sort of like electing, I mean blackmailing, Mugabae as President of Zimbabwae… EPIC FAILURE.

Gee, what’s next week? Oh that’s right Christmas. Hmm, somehow I don’t think that this is a coincidence.

Yep. The same US Attorney whose investigation findings were leaked to the press just before the trap could be sprung. Can you say “damage control”, boys and girls? Collusion, anyone?

    Nah! Certainly not.

Move along, folks. Nothing to see here, move along!

  13. GuppyNblue says:

Illinois Democrats decided to pass on stripping Blago of his senate appointment. Fearing that they could lose the seat to the GOP in a special election they decided to leave it up to Blago instead. With Democrats its all about the party at the expense of everything else.

Well if John McCain was smart he would announce to the Federal Election Committee that he has just audited himself
and there is no more need to audit his Presidential Campaign anymore. Then sit back and watch the media reaction.
    Wouldn’t it be delicious?!?

    • JohnMG says:

Indeed, it would be delicious, but, alas, Johnny Mac hasn’t the heart to poke his finger into the eye of the beast that chewed him up and spit him out.
