Obama Pronounces: Obama-Care Debate Is Over

From National Review:

Obama Takes Victory Lap at Obamacare Presser, Says ‘Debate Is Over’

By Josh Encinias | April 1, 2014

President Obama said Obamacare has made the American health-care system “a lot better” and even, though it has been “messy at times, it is progress.”

Really? Even though we were promised it would insure the 47 million who are uninsured and it hasn’t? Even though we were promised it would lower the price of premiums, and they have gone up, along with deductibles and co-pays?

Even though we were promised it wouldn’t add ‘one thin dime to the deficit,’ and it will add billions? And, even though we were promised if we liked our plan we would be able to keep it? That is progress?

The White House said 7.1 million people have signed up for the Obamacare exchanges as of today.

How amazing. Obama can come up with such a precise number over night, but he can’t he come up with the numbers on young and healthy versus old and sick. Or the number of people who are going to get a taxpayer subsidy.

Or the number of people who have made their first payment. Or the number of many of the sign-ups were previously uninsured.

In his press conference The president told reporters that there will be days when the federal exchange, HealthCare.gov, doesn’t work, ”I guarantee it,” but that it isn’t news anymore.

The website is pretty impressive if it can process 2.1 million signups in about two weeks. (It’s been about two weeks since we were told there were only 5 million enrollees.) Especially, since we were told it had nowhere near that capacity.

“The debate over repealing this law is over. The Affordable Care Act is here to stay,” Obama said.

That’s what they said about slavery. And prohibition. And, come to think of it, even our immigration laws.

President Obama chastised conservative politicians ”who based their career on repealing this law.” He said he doesn’t understand why conservatives are “working so hard for people not to have health insurance.”

So sayeth a man who single-handedly threw at least six million people off of their old insurance plans.

The White House spent $52 million in the last three months to urge people to enroll in Obamacare, but “we didn’t have billions of dollars in commercials like some critics did,” the president said.

Obama and his team get their media for free. From the news media and Hollywood and everywhere else.

“Many of the tall tales” about the law, he said, were debunked along the way. “There are still no death panels. . . . Instead this law is helping millions of Americans.”

And all the stories to the contrary are lies made up by Halliburton the Koch Brothers.

He had a warning for opponents of the law: ”History is not kind to those who would deny Americans their basic economic security.”

Gee, that sounds remarkably like his threat from a couple of years ago: “The future must not belong to those who would slander the Prophet of Islam.” Is he going to throw anyone who criticizes Obama-Care into jail?
