"It opened the possibility of oil and gas leases . . . with almost no consultation from states, industry or community input . . . ."

Silly Americans. You have no input.

Why is there so much opposition to more drilling? A few months ago the mere mention of opening up these areas for operation made gas prices begin to drop significantly. It wouldn't surprise me if the militant environmentalist were behind all this. Ken Salazar is an idiot. Others of his kind have no vision of how great this opportunity can be. Instead they focus on the worst case what if? scenarios it might bring. Like jobs, money, and less dependence from them.

I thought California was in DESPERATE need of money and jobs. This would give them some of both, guess we will just have to bail them out too. So much for energy independence...but hey, we have unlimited amounts of paper and ink, lets just print some more money!

As long as were bailing out everyone and everything possible...here's someone just as worthy and the banks and auto industry, and wse can bail them out for a mere 6k http://www.jessicaneedsanewnose.com/

In twenty years, we'll all look back on this year & laugh saying, "Allah be praised. We were so foolish then. Praise God for our great leader, Iman Barack Hussein.

We all saw this coming, so it's not even mildly surprising.

From the San Francisco Chronicle:

White House puts coastal drilling plans on hold

By Zachary Coile

President Obama is shelving a plan announced in the final days of the Bush presidency to open much of the U.S. coast to oil and gas drilling, including 130 million acres off California's shores from Mendocino to San Diego...

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2009/02/11/MNB015R7TQ.DTL

Because, you know, who needs that silly oil stuff.

Wind, solar and geothermal will be the answer to everything, if only…

Birds didn't keep getting killed by windmills.

We'd need to cover most of the West Coast with solar cells to generate the same power as a singe coal-fired power plant.

Geothermal? Why, that requires drilling. Oooh, can't have that, either.

But you've got to love Salazar's guts in stating:

In my view, it was a headlong rush of the worst kind.

In view of what his boss is trying to foist upon the American public.
