Obama: Race Key Component In Tea Party

From US News and World Report:

Obama Says Race a Key Component in Tea Party Protests

In a new book, President Obama talks candidly about race and the presidency

By Kenneth T. Walsh
Posted: March 2, 2011

African-Americans have been an integral part of the White House since it was built in part by slaves. In Family of Freedom: Presidents and African Americans in the White House, veteran U.S. News White House reporter Kenneth T. Walsh traces this sometimes fraught history from its roots all the way to the Barack Obama presidency.

… Obama was in a reflective mood. He began the interview by saying he had been "fully briefed" on my topic and was ready for me to "dive in." He proceeded to methodically defend his effort to build a race-neutral administration. "Americans, since the victories of the civil rights movement, I think, have broadly come to accept the notion that everybody has to be treated equally; everybody has to be treated fairly," the president told me. "And I think that the whole debate about how do you make up for past history creates a complicated wrinkle in that principle of equality."

Calmly, candidly, and with typical intellectual precision, Obama gave one of his most extensive analyses of the country’s racial situation and his goals for improving it. He made clear that he was president of all Americans, not just of African-Americans…

I asked him if he was very conscious of his own race as he conducted the business of the presidency, and his answer was insightful. "You just don’t think about it, you really don’t," he replied. "You’ve got too many other things to worry about."

And yet Mr. Obama seldom seems to think about anything else. Indeed, he took time out from his golfing and basketball to chat with an author for yet another book about racism.

I asked him how much he felt an obligation or responsibility as the first African-American president to advance racial justice and make up for some of the past disparities between blacks and whites. He replied, "Well, I think that every president should feel an obligation to deal with not only issues of discrimination, but also the legacy of slavery and segregation that has been such a profound part of our history. You know, obviously it’s hard for me to engage in a mind experiment and say, well, if I weren’t African-American, would I feel less strongly about it or more strongly about it—and I know I feel strongly about it. I do come to this issue with personal experiences that are unlike any previous presidents‘.

So the answer is yes, Mr. Obama does indeed believe in reparations to blacks for "past disparities between blacks and whites." Not that we needed him to tell us that, after all of the reparations he has given blacks. (See the $1.5 billion dollar Pigford payout to ‘black farmers,’ for starters.)

"But I also think that anybody in this office who cares deeply about the future of the country would be looking and saying to themselves, the population is changing; the future workforce is going to have a lot more African-American and Latino and Asian workers. And if those populations don’t feel fully assimilated into the culture, aren’t performing at high levels educationally, are caught in cycles of poverty—that that’s not good for America’s future. And that’s certainly how I feel—and I would like to think that any president would feel that way." …

So Mr. Obama is going to put an end welfare dependency, which has trapped generations of people in "cycles of poverty"?

But Obama, in his most candid moments, acknowledged that race was still a problem. In May 2010, he told guests at a private White House dinner that race was probably a key component in the rising opposition to his presidency from conservatives, especially right-wing activists in the anti-incumbent "Tea Party" movement that was then surging across the country. Many middle-class and working-class whites felt aggrieved and resentful that the federal government was helping other groups, including bankers, automakers, irresponsible people who had defaulted on their mortgages, and the poor, but wasn’t helping them nearly enough, he said.

We are supposed to believe that Tea Party members oppose Mr. Obama because they don’t think he is has given them "nearly enough"? Is this Mr. Obama’s ignorance speaking, or the book author’s?

Tea Party supporters don’t want to be given anything by the government. They just want to be left alone.

A guest suggested that when Tea Party activists said they wanted to "take back" their country, their real motivation was to stir up anger and anxiety at having a black president, and Obama didn’t dispute the idea. He agreed that there was a "subterranean agenda" in the anti-Obama movement—a racially biased one—that was unfortunate. But he sadly conceded that there was little he could do about it

Mr. Obama claims the never thinks about race. And yet he can’t even imagine anyone disagreeing with his policies for any legitimate reasons. He thinks it can only be because they are racists.

It would seem that Mr. Obama is not only race obsessed, but he is dangerously deluded as well.

This is America’s final test as a nation, and we’re failing. Obama’s approval ratings should be in the teens, but they’re not. Our fellow citizens are too stupid to see WHAT’S HAPPENING RIGHT IN FRONT OF THEIR EYES. Sadly, they’re dragging us all down with them.

Obama and his malevolent crew must be impeached on three legal grounds:

    1) Reckless Engangerment. Clearly, their policies are a disaster almost across the board.

    2) Implied Malice. Such reckless behavior, and the words from his own mouth, dis[play obvious malice.

    3) Depraved Indifference. They don’t care how much suffering results. Their ends justify any means.

Those who can’t – or won’t – see this deserve their ruin The rest of us must suffer through it all.

    • Rusty Shackleford says:

“Obama’s approval ratings should be in the teens, but they’re not.”

I’m not entirely certain that the poll numbers aren’t intentionally false. I find that most polls lack absolute objectivity and ask questions in a manner that favor the pollster’s expected results. In other words, they just plain lie. I think his rating is truly in the toilet, except with that demographic of our population that is black and thinks it’s “better for a black man be messin’ it all up than whitey”. To them, that a black man is “in chawge” is all that matters. They go blind, deaf and dumb when the obvious mistakes are made and he further enslaves them, making them ever more beholden to the government. Gone is the almost regular concept that “the man” “always be gettin’ his first”. The seas have parted and obama is gonna lead them to the promised land. So, I say, “OK, hitch your wagon to a criminal and have a nice trip y’all.”.

  2. BigOil says:

What a shock. Another lecture on race by the lecturer in chief in the White House.

Why shouldn’t we hang on Barry’s every word concerning racial matters. A man with a communist white mother and a communist African father. Schooled in one of the most exclusive prep schools in the country. Sounds to me like a man that has endured the life long oppression that is the African-American experience. A man truly ‘down for the struggle’.

Of course, the communists Democrats that spent a lifetime indoctrinating Barry – preparing him for his ascendency – knew his skin color was the trump card to beat back opposition to his radical ideology.

  3. Chuckk says:

If you are against Marxism, the degradation of the dollar, borrowing money that can never be repaid (except by inflation) and making commitments that are clearly unsustainable, you are clearly a racist.

    • BannedbytheTaliban says:

I hate all communists/marxist and their pink-o friends the socialist/progressives. If that makes me racists, then I’m a racists.

So, we’re back to barack the intellectual, omniscient genius, are we? Great. As to the second line, he said that I think during is immaculation. And it’s directly out of “sales 101”. He has to make sure his sales pitch makes the customer want to buy. I’m not interested and I’m not buying. In my 50 years I have never witnessed a single, categorical racist event. That includes all my years in the military, where you might think it would most likely happen. Oh, I’ve heard them say it happened but further investigation would always reveal that the heart of the matter was the the result of some inadequacy or failure on the part of the “accused”.

We entered into very dangerous territory when a large number of whites bought into the black=good/white=bad methodology.

    • proreason says:

All of the racist events nowadays involve the Cuddly statistmarxists.

The hasn’t been so much racism since the Jim Crow days.

Just the other day, the pitiful Attorney General decried having the DOJ investigate its own racism, calling such a request an affont to “my people”, which of course, he meant not as “my people, all Americans”, but as “my people, people with African ancestors”.

There hasn’t been such a racist statement by a federal official in at least half a century.

    • tranquil.night says:

“There hasn’t been such a racist statement by a federa official in at least half a century.”

Wow, what a fantastically relevant point.

I mean what the hell, let’s embrace this debate to its rational conclusion.

We know race is a key component in Obama’s DoJ. No “intellectual precision” in our speculative analysis necessary! Holder’s words and actions speak loudly enough.

  5. GetBackJack says:

Isn’t it racist to take note of Race?

And when the apostles asked Jesus what signs of the end and His return would be … Mark 13:8 Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against …

The root of Nation is ethnos. And ethnos shall rise against ethnos.

    Further deponent sayeth not.

  6. untrainable says:

the first African-American president to advance racial justice. Yes he is. I wonder why. Because there is no racial justice. There is no social justice. There is only justice. Funny that the “equal protection” clause of the 14th amendment has no mention of race or social class. This guy is absolutely focused on race. Even to the exclusion of rational thought. It is his default setting and his fallback position when he has nothing rational to say.

Using phrases like typical intellectual precision when referring to the boy king is laughable. Obama has never been intellectually precise about anything in his life. In fact it is the nebulous nature of his words that are responsible for his success. He constantly says things so vaguely that his followers can fill in whatever they want his meaning to be. He says nothing and they hear whatever they want to hear.

He made clear that he was president of all Americans, not just of African-Americans… Wonderful. Then perhaps Obama should have a few words with Eric “The Hold-Up” Holder. Apparently he’s only the attorney general for “his people”.

Many middle-class and working-class whites felt aggrieved and resentful that the federal government was helping other groups, including bankers, automakers, irresponsible people who had defaulted on their mortgages, and the poor, but wasn’t helping them nearly enough, he said.

Does this mean that Mr Obama thinks that bankers, automakers, irresponsible people, and the poor are races? The way that “illegal” has become a word referring to race rather than legal status? When did bankers become a race? When did autoworkers become a race? Did I miss the memo?

Speaking as evil working class white guy, what we resent has nothing to do with the president’s race. It is that irresponsible people, whatever their race, are getting totally off the hook for their legal/financial obligations at the expense of the rest of us. We’re not mad that we aren’t “getting ours” from the stash. We’re mad that we’re being financially raped to pay for the irresponsibility of others. Not the least of which is Obama himself. And the costs of HIS irresponsibility are going to cost us for decades to come. Not just evil white people, but EVERYONE.

    • Liberals Demise says:

      Point of question, untrainable.
If dingleBarrys’ mother is white and his deadbeat daddy is black, does that
not make said dingleBarry a “Half-rican American”?

    • untrainable says:

LD, The answer would be yes, except that Obama has written off every part of his white heritage. He threw his own grandmother under the bus as a racist during his campaign. Remember “Typical white people…”?

  7. tranquil.night says:

Why what we have here is the same class of expert on the Tea Party as Sheriff Dipstick of the Pima County Civility Police.

They’ll always tell you what and who they fear the most by the impulse to focus on them, typically the impulse to lie and trash them. Obviously we’ve been, shall we say, under the Bamster’s skin for quite a while now.

But what’s interesting is how we always find out about it later from the most extraordinary number of insider tell-all books to ever come out of a still active administration. Every one basically presenting an image of a petulant manchild that madly idolizes himself.

  8. JohnMG says:

…..” I have never witnessed a single, categorical racist event……”

Wish I could say the same, Rusty. But forty-three years ago in VietNam I saw it in the 1st Marine Division. And in every instance it was black-on-white racism. Seems like we haven’t ‘come a long way, baby’.

    • Rusty Shackleford says:

Well, the conversation about race invariably means for the blacks, “We want to whine” and being as most conservative Americans, black or white or Asian or what-have-you, are busy working and feeding their families, they just don’t have the time, nor the inclination to hear that someone’s “misery” is worse than anyone else’s. Just like there’s always room for Jell-O, there is always something to bitch about. But for some reason, certain blacks think that every single indiscretion in society is the result of racism. Since they have also incorporated “covert” racism into their line of thinking, there is now no escaping it.

When I get a ticket, it’s because I was speeding.

When a black guy gets a ticket, it’s because he’s black.

      When I get a notice of a turn-down for a loan, it’s because I didn’t qualify.

When a black guy gets a notice of a turn-down for a loan…it’s because they are black, even if the lending agency had no idea what race they are.

I’ve had it up to my boo-boo with the whining. I’ve had my own share of being called on the carpet for alleged racist remarks, only to have it be that the listener had a limited vocabulary. Or, as he put it, “vo-cabby-airy”. I have no desire to try to fix stupidity. I also do not bend over and kiss black people’s asses, nor anyone else’s for that matter. That makes me FAIR.

By demanding special consideration, they also admit to being helpless without it.

    • Liberals Demise says:

JMG, I wasn’t gonna comment but I have to flow with your statement.
I too served in I Corp with 1/7 but a mere 39 yrs. ago (old man).
As I was in demand being a commrat (small man with a huge radio
(PRC-47 w/crypto) for reconnaissance (recon). I witnessed racism in
the chow lineand at the showers with brother Marines doing the “DAP”
and the “P”ower hand slapping that only they could do allowing other blacks to cut line.
But outside the wire we were “Mother Green” and her fightin’ machine.
Hopefully you and I will hook up fer a beer or two, confab, chew, eat, gobble and verily ride our Harley-Davidsons to points unknown.

      We Marines who served in the ‘Nam had a saying;
“We have done so much with so little for so long……
……we can now do anything with nothing!”

For those who don’t know, the Marines got handme downs from the
Army and Navy. THAT is why “WE” are who we are and “DAMN” proud
      of it.

    • preparing4theworst says:

Hey LD, yopu forget the first half of that? The whole thing seems pretty appropriate ie:
We the unwilling, led by the unknowing,
are doing the impossible for the ungrateful.
We have done so much, for so long, with so little,
we are now qualified to do anything with nothing…
puts a little more context up huh?

In a twisted way, he is right.
The true racists out there are the most anti-Tea Party.
Therefore, because the lack of racism is a major component of the movement that means race IS involved (just not like he wants us to believe).

  12. canary says:

More proof Obama priority is spending his entire Presidency focusing on himself. 2nd priority is getting even. It’s never enough for Obama.
Obama has his own racism against black people he is trying to make up for too.
That is why Obama can not possibly believe that any white person is not a racism. His own racism against whites and blacks was difficult to grow up with.

Steve (See the $1.5 billion dollar Pigford payout to ‘black farmers,’ for starters.)

May I add Obama feels as president he can change stringent Federal Court laws, on appeals and deadlines as to be timely, and say “presdo” I’m opening the lawsuit to all blacks.
Any Obama commericals with government 800 numbers to call saying you may be entitled…”

Well, as Obama wrote in 2006 whites will soon be a minority. Obama has his own history of racism towards white and blacks.

Our president grew up pretending to be a Muslim, an Indian, letting tourists believe he was of native royalty from Hawaii, and a “bronzed Egyptian” Oh! Oh the irony.

Dreams From My Father by Barack Obama 1994

pg 63) “Over lunch. I explained to a group of boys that my father was a prince, tribe, you know…like the Indians. So that makes my father a prince. He’ll take over when my grandfather dies.”
What about about after that?” one of my friends asked as we emptied our trays into the trash bin. “I mean, will you go back and be prince?”
“Well…if I want to, I could. It’s sort of complicated, see, ‘ cause the tribe is full of warriors . Like Obama…that means ‘Burning Spear.’ The men in our tribe all want to be chief, so my father has to settle these feuds before I can come.”
As the words tumbled out of my mouth, and I felt the boys readjust to me, more curious and familiar as we bumped into each other in the line back to class. a part of me really began to believe the story. But
another part of me knew that what I was telling them was a lie, something I’d constructed from the scraps of information I’d picked up from my mother. After a week of my father in the flesh, I had decided that I
preferred his more distant image, an image I could alter on a whim — or ignore when convenient. If my father hadn’t exactly disappointed me, he remained something unknown, something volatile and vaguely
    threatening. …..

pg 64) This seemed promising; Gramps still kept a painting he had once done, a replica of lean bronze
Egyptians on a golden chariot drawn by alabaster steeds. I had visions of ancient Egypt, the great kingdoms I had read about, pyramids and Pharohs. Nefertiti and Cleopatra….”

pg 69) “By the way, I forgot to tell you that Miss Hefty has invited father to come to school on Thursday.
She wants him to speak to the class.”
I couldn’t imagine worse news. I spent that night and all of the next day trying to suppress thoughts of the
inevitable: the faces of my classmates when they heard about mud huts, all my lies exposed, the painful jokes afterward. Each time I remembered, my body squirmed as if it had received a jolt to the nerves…
….The ruddy-faced boy who had asked about cannibalism said, “Your dad is pretty cool”
And off to one side, I saw Coretta watch my father say good-by to some of the children. She seemed too intent to smle; her face showed only a look of simple satisfaction….”

[note Maybe poor little Coretta the only African American in the class isolated after Obama assaulted her so the other children would accept him more, was at least satisfied to know, that there was nothing wrong about her. She was just a victim of racism by a racist hypocrite !

Obama goes on from there telling of how he and his black friend made a game of using the race card. How he even referred to “whites” as “white folks”, and that he felt when a white person said they liked Stevie Wonder, or famous black basketball player…..
Obama felt they were hiding their true racist feelings. He felt they were trying to trick him, and he wondered what the trick was they were pulling. I mean how could a white person like a black person. (I’d say Obama felt this way because he was a racist and believed everyone else deep down inside was a racist like his self).
    Obama was very paranoid.
If a white teacher smiled out of admiration, Obama could mind read and knew that really the teacher was laughing at him. Just patronizing him. After all, if Mr. Perfect Obama was a racist, then everyone else must have some lower form.

FYI I left out the racist profanity Obama uses in his writing such as laughing about getting over some white “b” teacher, to get a late paper in. At least he didn’t get straight A’s.
And good thing his mother chewed him out for his grades dropping when he hung around with such as his drug dealing friend that went to jail. That Indonesia citizen register paper came in handy, until he wanted to become a muslim.

  13. TerryAnne says:

He made clear that he was president of all Americans, not just of African-Americans…

Because every white guy to run for office has always said, “I’m down for whitey only!”

Seems to me that this sentence is far more racist than anything any of our previous presidents have said. Especially when he goes on to say:

You know, obviously it’s hard for me to engage in a mind experiment and say, well, if I weren’t African-American, would I feel less strongly about it or more strongly about it—and I know I feel strongly about it. I do come to this issue with personal experiences that are unlike any previous presidents‘

Uh…? So does this mean you weren’t for race before you were for it?

Anyone else notice that just about every sentence of Zero’s has “I think” in it? Not exactly an Einstein statement. And it’s one that he says A LOT!

My personal favorite is this mash up:

Obama gave one of his most extensive analyses of the country’s racial situation . . . “You just don’t think about it, you really don’t,” he replied. “You’ve got too many other things to worry about.”

God, how I wish this was true.

Just for my own entertainment, why don’t YOU explain what’s going on in government so the rest of us can have access to your monumental intelligence and insight. (That was sarcasm btw. I thought I should tell you that because people with low IQs “typically” do not understand sarcasm) And to be safe, just in case you don’t know what sarcasm is…

Sarcasm – mocking, contemptuous, or ironic language intended to convey scorn or insult.

I am however impressed that it only took you 6 days to come up with this retort. With your intelligence it should have taken much longer. Should we talk about Charlie Sheen now so that you can comment on something you’re more familiar with?

Thanks for coming over, but maybe you should go back to the Huffington Post where all the other clueless morons post. You might even be able to get a job. They need useful idiots willing to lie on a daily basis.
