Obama Releases Bush Anti-Terror Memos

From an outraged (at any attempt to protect our nation) Associated Press:

Secret anti-terror Bush memos made public by Obama

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Justice Department on Monday released a long-secret legal document from 2001 in which the Bush administration claimed the military could search and seize terror suspects in the United States without warrants.

The legal memo was written about a month after the Sept. 11 terror attacks. It says constitutional protections against unlawful search and seizure would not apply to terror suspects in the U.S., as long as the president or another high official authorized the action…

The memo was one of nine released Monday by the Obama administration.

Another memo showed that, within two weeks of Sept. 11, the administration was contemplating ways to use wiretaps without getting warrants…

In a speech Monday, Obama’s attorney general, Eric Holder said that too often in the past decade the fight against terrorism has been put in opposition to "our tradition of civil liberties."

That "has done us more harm than good," he declared. "I’ve often said that the test of a great nation is whether it will adhere to its core values not only when it is easy but when it is hard."

Mr. Obama and his comrades are doing all they can to undermine our national security.

They better hope their lickspittle media minions can protect them from an outraged citizenry should we suffer another attack.

(Thanks to BillK for the heads up.)

    From a thrilled AP:

Obama releases secret Bush anti-terror memos

By Devlin Barrett and Matt Apuzzo

WASHINGTON — The Obama administration threw open the curtain on years of Bush-era secrets Monday, revealing anti-terror memos that claimed exceptional search-and-seizure powers and divulging that the CIA destroyed nearly 100 videotapes of interrogations and other treatment of terror suspects…

Not content to merely destroy America economically, we must now systematically destroy national security as well.

Should a Republican someday be elected to the Presidency, I look forward to the Clinton and Obama memos that are bow fair game.

  2. Euryale says:

This will serve as a justification or foundation for prosecuting W and members of his administration.

  3. jobeth says:

I said it before and say it again.

Obama is seriously step by step planning on destroying this country.

Economically first, and now the defense.

Stay tuned…He ain’t done yet!!! None of this is “accidental”.

This man (?) needs to be impeached…and kicked OUT of office.

    • catie says:

I’m all for impeachment myself, Jobeth. I think he is absolutely trying to destroy this country. He despises the military and those who serve (unless of course they’re part of those anti-war veteran groups), capitalists (of course he’s one himself with his millions made on his ghost written by Bomb Ayers books) and try to divert us with this nonsense about Rush Limbaugh.

    • proreason says:

How can anybody view the events of the last 35 days and conclude that The Moron is doing anything other than intentionally attempting to destroy the United States?

    • wardmama4 says:

I’m with Rush – I hope Obama fails.

There I said it – take a look at history people we can take Germany pre WWII and see the economic disaster that allowed the rise of Hitler so quickly – look where that lead to.

Fast forward to the 60s and we have a National figure (Walter Cronkite) declare the War is lost – sound familiar. Then we withdrew. And after that Congress cut our promised financial aid to South Vietnam – and the killing fields bled dry. So now, let’s see Senator H. Reid declared the War lost, The One ™ has announced withdrawl – bet the cuts of funding to Iraq isn’t far behind (probably hidden in the Generational Theft Act of 2009).

How sad it is that these dangerous, out-of-control thugs call themselves progressives – there is nothing progressive, postive or moving forward on any issue, policy or legislation that they promote – it is a step backward in history. And we know how it turns out – We Read the Book!

    • DoctorRock says:

Yeah, but – do you see San Fran Nan impeaching The One? I don’t. We’ve got twenty months until the mid-term election. Perhaps our congress will start posing as moderates again in the summer of 2010, but that’s still 15 months off.
      We’re in deep stuff, kids.

    • Right of the People says:

We don’t have to wait 20 months to kick him and the rest of his posse out. We just need to take this sucker back by any means necessary, force of arms included. Lock and load, buy all the ammo you can and meet me in DC.

      Be there or be screwed.

    • shalomsweetie says:

Pelosi should be tried for treason after that stint of running off to the Middle East when she was first crowned high queen in 2006 without the president’s consent. Well, among many other things. And then Obama needs to be impeached. There seems to be no bottom to this man’s low. What is so frightening is how methodical this whole thing is and, not to quote Michelle, but “mean” and driven this is. This man is a complete mission of complete and total annihilation of this country. And for what?

  4. Odie44 says:

    A dangerous Bambi smoke screen.

They are milking the immediate “public viewing” and supported comments by Holder (considering his psat, he may want to stfu on national, legal security matters) – to beat a dead horse of “Bush was a terrorist acting as a rogue Neocon President…” AP, NYT, and the other left trollers will run with it, micro-expose every word, action, behavior and sully up anything tangible, based on anti-Rep feelings.

Yet, the AG and JD of Bambi’s admin have basically upheld the existing Bush laws, namely in Habeus Corpus, wiretapping, search and seizure, etc. Add it Gitmo becoming just peachy overnight.

So we are left with another mindless “point the finger, while we do the same thing” Dem playbook, supported by the media. And our national security and ability to defeat enemies is hindered by making the process a scene out of Night Court.

Obstructionist, idiot, Marxist, radical black ideologue.
    Meet your President America.

PS – Considering this memo is from Nov 2001, 1 month after 9/11 – wasn’t even Ted Kennedy a war hawk??? Didn’t every House and Senate member together create “unity spots” than ran on TV to support our country?? I swore even some hippie vegans down the road were crafting sharp spears then…

  5. BigBad says:

I think this is crap he released this stuff but…..

I have always thought the Patriot Act went too far. I never thought it to be constitutional to allow the president to declare a terrorist and imprison him without charges. People may have felt it was ok when Bush is in power because he seemed “trust worthy.” However this could be used to create dictatorships. This is where I am more libertarian than republican.

  6. Reality Bytes says:

Every time I cross the Brooklyn Bridge, waterboarding comes to mind BECAUSE IT’S STILL THERE!!!

Jerkoffs like Holder are as guilty as the terrorist who will under this administration kill thousands more innocent Americans.

  7. MinnesotaRush says:

This guy’s narcisstic personna just doesn’t allow for any prudent common sense, or well thought thru behaviors/actions. Every day there’s somthing. There’s just no substance of any reasonable quality to this phony. Yee gads!

Might anybody know what color the sky is in his world?!?!?

    And he talks about ‘distractions’!?!?!?

  8. Liberals Demise says:

While I’m taping mags end to end……..Hey OHOLE? Who killed JFK?
Imean….while they are outting secrets……why not?

  9. preparing4theworst says:

To Mr. Right of the People- the biggest problem is that the elected majority see our constitutional rights as tradable rather than sacred. From where I sit I initally missed the economic factor but have long held that first we would surrender Iraq (seems Gitmo was first..), then we will surrender Afganistan and combined with 9/11 the hardline muslims would then have at least three major victories against the US with which to use as recruitment tools. I have said for at least 20 months buy ammo (something common), buy seed, and have some good ground with water and be ready….as our weakness broadens our enemies will come…..Treason is afoot,God help us all!

    • proreason says:

“the elected majority see our constitutional rights as tradable rather than sacred”

      astute comment

  10. canary says:

oOllah’s Obama’s complaints might also be a smoke screen, so Americans think he is for American’s rights, while on the other hand he seems to be wanting to force Americans to be dependent on the the government, like the Soviet Union was.
On the bright side, this will help me deal with some tree hugging liberals who believe Bush caused 9/11. I just can’t see Obama stopping attacks. Most of the security are focusing on protecting ollah Obama who seems to like to eat out alot, and go to parties.

  11. pagar says:

IMO, this is simply a smoke screen to keep people from saying something has to be done to save our nation from the economic ruin the Obama Administration is bringing to this nation.

  12. pdsand says:

I’m sorry, maybe this memo wasn’t released to the public because it would probably be a waste of time to release a whole lot of memos to the public, but what is the big secret here, anyway? Everybody knows that Bush and everybody with a brain believed that the powers of the president to conduct a war allowed for the search and seizure as well as wiretapping of terror suspects without a warrant. That’s what the last 7 volumes of the New York Times have been about. So why is this a revelation at all? What’s next, a secret Bush memo saying that terror suspects could be held as unlawful enemy combatants at a U.S. Military installation not in sovereign U.S. territory without a trial indefinitely?
