Obama Sends More Troops To Iraq — Number Up To 750

From the Associated Press:

More US Troops to Iraq, Raising Total to About 750

By JOSH LEDERMAN | June 30, 2014

WASHINGTON — The U.S. is sending another 300 troops to Iraq to increase security at the U.S. Embassy and elsewhere in the Baghdad area to protect U.S. citizens and property, officials said Monday. That raises the total U.S. troop presence in Iraq to approximately 750, the Pentagon said…

How is this not ‘boots on the ground’? How is it not a quagmire? And where are Code Pink and Cindy Sheehan?

Will John Kerry announce that he doesn’t want any US soldier to be the last one to die for a mistake?

Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said the Baghdad embassy "will be fully equipped to carry out" its mission…

Does that mean they won’t be armed? Or their guns will only have blanks?

Obama notified House and Senate leaders in a letter on Monday of the additional forces heading to Iraq. Officials said they bring a detachment of helicopters and drone aircraft to improve airfield and travel route security in Baghdad.

Obama has ruled out sending combat troops back into Iraq. He said the extra troops will stay in Iraq until security improves so that the reinforcements are no longer needed.

So these 750 troops are not combat troops. That’s a relief.

Still, putting all of these American military force on the ground without any air support means they will be in the same situation as those US soldiers whose dead bodies ended up being dragged through the streets of Mogadishu.

(Which, by the way, told Osama Bin Laden that the US was so weak that he should carry out his his 9/11 attacks.)

I guess if you’re flying a chopper, your boots are technically not on the ground

  3. the Baghdad embassy “will be fully equipped to carry out” its mission… So… what are they going to do? Hire some Libyans to guard the embassy? The Iraqi military might as well be the WWII French. Everything is great until they get attacked, then it’s race to see how fast they can drop their guns and surrender. 750 troops aren’t going to change that.

…the extra troops will stay in Iraq until security improves so that the reinforcements are no longer needed. And when exactly will that be? What’s the exit strategy Mr Oblameless? And how are “reinforcements” not combat troops? What are they reinforcing? I thought they were guarding the embassy? WTF is going on?

I hear Obama’s plan B is to drop the cast of “The Expendables” into Baghdad and be done with it.

Shame on AP is scrubbing 750 US Troops on the ground in Iraq under deceptive headline

“Envoy Says Iraq Can’t Wait for US Military Aid”

Shame on AP who fails to address 750 US Troops on the ground in the middle of a war.
