Obama Still Campaigning On Taxpayer $

From, of all places, the Associated Press:

AP IMPACT: Obama’s travels carry a touch of blue

By Philip Elliott, Associated Press Writer

PITTSBURGH – For President Barack Obama, it’s almost as if the election campaign never ended. Just look at his travel schedule.

The same states that Obama targeted to win the White House are seeing an awful lot of the president, Vice President Joe Biden and top Cabinet officials. Only this year, the taxpayers are footing the multimillion-dollar tab for the trips, and Obama officials are delivering wheelbarrows of economic stimulus money — also compliments of taxpayers.

An Associated Press review of administration travel records shows that three of every four official trips Obama and his key lieutenants made in his first seven months in office were to the 28 states Obama won. Add trips to Missouri and Montana — both of which Obama narrowly lost — and almost 80 percent of the administration’s official domestic travel has been concentrated in states likely to be key to Obama’s re-election effort in 2012

Though insisting that the stimulus legislation include no such "earmarked" congressional projects, Obama, Biden and the Cabinet spent months traveling the country to announce billions of dollars in new federal job-creating money that was going for bridge construction and green-energy projects, and for extended unemployment benefits.

Biden in particular has been the bearer of stimulus good news, making nearly two dozen trips to 14 states to tout the legislation and its impact on local communities.

The vice president has made five stimulus trips just to Pennsylvania, a must-win state in 2008 that never faded from Obama’s political planning meetings. All told, administration officials have been to the Keystone state more than three dozen times since January

The White House defended the travel as necessary to promote the administration’s agenda for the country.

"President Obama and key members of his team have traveled to communities large and small … to discuss the encouraging impact of the Recovery Act and to reinforce this president’s commitment to creating the kind of jobs that will lay a new foundation for America’s long-term economic strength," deputy press secretary Josh Earnest said in a statement…

Part of this is undoubtedly to shore up the Democrat base for 2010 and 2012.

But another factor has to be that it is a lot more fun for Mr. Obama to campaign than to govern.

We suspect that Mr. Obama has become addicted to the adulation.

After all, he has gotten it for most of his life.

(We’re still wondering — for what.)

This is exactly what FDR and his band of communists (er, I mean, his administration) did with the New Deal money. Most of those fabulous public works funded by the New Deal (think Hoover Dam and the like) were located in the West because that was the part of the country FDR needed to sway in the next (3) elections. The South, where there were just as many people jobless and starving, didn’t get nearly as many projects because the South was a lock for the Dems at the time. I point this out not because I think O-blah-blah and his henchpersons learned from history but because the rest of the country damn well better start learning from history. All of this has happened before.

This is all he knows how to do. He has no experience in even running something as big as a tiny village in the middle of nowhere let alone a country with 300 million people.

If the absolute worst happens and this butt monkey gets re-elected in 2012 what will he do for his last four years in office since unless he gets the 22nd amendment repealed that will be it for him? He might actually have to do his job. Man, that would sure suck for him wouldn’t it?

Can anyone guess where the stimulus money is going and to which states? Ah, lets see?? Oh yeah, BLUE is the main color.

  4. Reality Bytes says:

Hey Tater! Maybe if we all sing “Blue Moon”, the Moron will refund NASA so he can go there & campaign-I MEAN – Promote His Administration’s Agenda!

  5. proreason says:

“The vice president has made five stimulus trips just to Pennsylvania”

    That says it all.

But there is an eentsy tiny bit of good news creeping in here and there. The simple fact that the AP filed this report indicates there is at least one “journalist” who is sayin to himself “WTF?”. And that’s one more than yesterday.

Plus travelling and speaking only to blue state audiences really drastically reduces the chance of a South Carolina crowd yelling “You Lie!” in unison. Something like that wouldn’t fit with the image of the beloved Dear Leader that we got from the DNC convention or the Hyde Park celebration, or the worldwide apology tour for that matter.

    Is this legal?
