Obama Still Considering ‘Torture’ Probe

From the reprehensible Newsweek:

Independent’s Day

Obama doesn’t want to look back, but Attorney General Eric Holder may probe Bush-era torture anyway.

Daniel Klaidman
From the magazine issue dated Jul 20, 2009

It’s the morning after Independence Day, and Eric Holder Jr. is feeling the weight of history

Holder is reflecting on his own role. He doesn’t dwell on the fact that he’s the country’s first black attorney general. He is focused instead on the tension that the best of his predecessors have confronted: how does one faithfully serve both the law and the president?

Alone among cabinet officers, attorneys general are partisan appointees expected to rise above partisanship. All struggle to find a happy medium between loyalty and independence. Few succeed. At one extreme looms Alberto Gonzales, who allowed the Justice Department to be run like Tammany Hall. At the other is Janet Reno, whose righteousness and folksy eccentricities marginalized her within the Clinton administration. Lean too far one way and you corrupt the office, too far the other way and you render yourself impotent. Mindful of history, Holder is trying to get the balance right. "You have the responsibility of enforcing the nation’s laws, and you have to be seen as neutral, detached, and nonpartisan in that effort," Holder says. "But the reality of being A.G. is that I’m also part of the president’s team. I want the president to succeed; I campaigned for him. I share his world view and values."

These are not just the philosophical musings of a new attorney general. Holder, 58, may be on the verge of asserting his independence in a profound way. Four knowledgeable sources tell NEWSWEEK that he is now leaning toward appointing a prosecutor to investigate the Bush administration’s brutal interrogation practices, something the president has been reluctant to do.

While no final decision has been made, an announcement could come in a matter of weeks, say these sources, who decline to be identified discussing a sensitive law-enforcement matter. Such a decision would roil the country, would likely plunge Washington into a new round of partisan warfare, and could even imperil Obama’s domestic priorities, including health care and energy reform. Holder knows all this, and he has been wrestling with the question for months. "I hope that whatever decision I make would not have a negative impact on the president’s agenda," he says. "But that can’t be a part of my decision." …

What a preposterous (and ridiculously verbose) article about a truly Orwellian situation.

Of course, as with any Newsweek article, one has to wade through reams of the most risible propaganda and revisionism, such as this:

Alone among cabinet officers, attorneys general are partisan appointees expected to rise above partisanship. All struggle to find a happy medium between loyalty and independence. Few succeed. At one extreme looms Alberto Gonzales, who allowed the Justice Department to be run like Tammany Hall. At the other is Janet Reno, whose righteousness and folksy eccentricities marginalized her within the Clinton administration.

Never mind that Mr. Gonzales did not fire nearly as many Attorneys General as did Janet Reno – who fired them all in her “righteousness.”

Nor did Mr. Gonzales burn down a compound, killing innocent women and children. But, according to Newsweek, that was just one of Ms. Reno’s endearing “folksy eccentricities.”

But to pretend that Mr. Holder is ‘independent’ of Mr. Obama and acting on his own is an outrageous lie even by the standards of the full-time professional liars at Newsweek.

The White House is simply using Mr. Holder for cover. Though, of course, he is a more than willing tool.

Indeed, Mr. Holder’s law firm even did pro bono legal defense work for the detainees in Guantanamo. So, like Mr. Obama, Mr. Holder has more ‘empathy’ for terrorists than he does for the citizens of this country that he and his boss are supposed to defend.

Instead, Newsweek tries to portray Mr. Holder as some Solon who is torn between serving the law and his President:

"You have the responsibility of enforcing the nation’s laws, and you have to be seen as neutral, detached, and nonpartisan in that effort," Holder says. "

You see, Mr. Holder will only be “enforcing the nation’s laws” when he starts his show trials. Never mind that no one has yet to enunciate a single law that was ever broken by these interrogations.

Not a one.

But that won’t stop the highly principled Mr. Holder, Mr. Obama, the Democrat Party, and our ‘watchdog media” from lying about it. For it is now an established fact that laws were broken. Our media has seen to that.

Furthermore, any criticism Mr. Holder’s actions will automatically be described as “partisan warfare”:

Such a decision would roil the country, would likely plunge Washington into a new round of partisan warfare, and could even imperil Obama’s domestic priorities, including health care and energy reform.

And it will be deemed a ‘distraction’ from Mr. Obama’s noble mission of forcing socialized medicine upon the nation and crippling our industry with an energy tax that will be the biggest tax increase in the history of the nation.

So everyone better just shut up and accept Mr. Holder’s witch hunt without demurral.

Well, he professes his love to communist countries and terrorist countries that abuse and kill their people, but America is bad. He passes a law it’s okay to torture, mutilate, and kill innocent ful-term baby’s to include his decision to force doctor’s to do them.

It was okay for Obama to aid former felonists and sex offenders, and hang around gangbangers, militant blacks, and a Bill Ayers that bombed and killed policemen. It’s okay to let terrorists go, yemen and pirates that torture and kill people on the seas. The lack of Christianity, has left Obama full of revenge, and not tolerate of white people. What goes around comes around. He will reap what he sows. Obama is trying to interfere with Bush writing his memoirs. Bush has been far too kind to Obama, and this is how Obama repays him. Shame on Obama.

Barry the Bungler is going to go after W. no matter what. He is a master at deception and a two faced FlimFlam man. It is just another attempt to undermine our nation at all cost!!

Hearings provide opportunities that go both ways. Holder might open Pandora’s Box.

    • canary says:

yes, I think they should dig back to the Clinton days who did nothing about the growing muslim terrorists, and refused to meet with FBI and CIA, because he was to bogged down in trouble with his sex addiction and Hillary gate.
Figure out why so many security and agents that were around Clinton died.

It certainly wasn’t healthy to be a friend of Bill or Hitlery during their hillbilly hi jinx. Now where did I put that cigar?

  4. proreason says:

I hope they have their show trials.

We’ll have ours after they criminals are thrown in jail for destroying the wealth of the country and paving the way for enemies to kill thousands of us.

Speaking of Messrs Obama and Holder, here are some great reminders of their sense of justice from Andy McCarthy, via National Review:

    Justice, Obama/Holder Style

    Andy McCarthy

    Sunday July 12, 2009

Binyam Mohammed: jihadist plotting mass-murders against American cities — released outright.

Laith Qazali: abduction/murder of 5 U.S. soldiers in Karbala — released outright.

Irbil 5: Iranian IRGC operatives (i.e., the same guys who murdered 19 of our air force at Khobar Towers in ’96) coordinating Iraqi terrorist operations that have killed HUNDREDS of U.S. forces in Iraq since 2003 — released outright.

New Black Panther Party operatives on videotape intimidating anti-Obama voters — charges dropped after DOJ had already won the case.

CIA Interrogators who obtained information that saved countless American lives — under investigation.

Bush officials who deliberated over national-security policies that prevented another 9/11 (many of which the Holder/Obama DOJ have defended in court and, however inadvertently, in Congress) — under investigation.

Yes, NOBODY expects the Spanish Inquisition! And this time there’ll be no soft cushions. No Comfy Chair.

It will be the Scooter Libby treatment––special prosecutors, grand jury indictments, show trials in the Washington DC Federal criminal court system, and the same predictable results from all-black DC juries. Perhaps with Congressional Democrats running Truth and Reconciliation Commissions as well.

There seems to be a clear pattern emerging. This is one of several steps in a deliberate program to criminalize, outlaw, and marginalize conservatives and Republicans.

Other, similar measures in the works are DHS targeting veterans, Ron Paul supporters, et al.; fairness doctrine (or one of its variants); demonization of wealthy Americans; civil and criminal litigation against wealthy Americans with overseas assets; hate crimes legislation; and threats against bankers, bondholders, AIG executives, and hedge fund managers.

This shock and awe approach to governance, this no-opposition-will-be-tolerated and in-your-face-conqueror aspect of Nerobama’s Administration, signals America’s slide into tyranny. It is difficult to imagine a program that would be more destructive to civil society and freedom. But I’m sure they will think of something.

no doubt….but the immediate purpose is probably to distract attention from the Obamy economy, and the massive taxes they are trying to sneak through before the public catches the drift. That’s the shell with the pea at the moment.

    Title should read:

“Obama Can’t Wait for ‘Torture’ Probe: Patsy Holder is More Than Willing to do His Crazed and Obsessed Bosses Bidding”

Just tryin’ to help with a little more truth & transparency in gov’t, ya’ know.

  9. Howard Roark says:

At the other is Janet Reno, whose righteousness and folksy eccentricities marginalized her within the Clinton administration

Reno wasn’t marginalized so much that her skirt was out of reach for little boy Bill to hide behind during and after Waco. She has more testosterone than Clinton.

This administration is turning out to be Man From Hope redux. Barry will hide behind his AG as they turn our own weapons on us.

  10. canary says:

Is this not reversal racism. I mean the two keep lettting brown terrorists go, but are trying to destroy a white man. Since Obama wrote whites we’ll soon be a minority, making sure of this with a rapid pace of immigrants coming into America, refusing to follow Bush’s bill to build the wall, I think Bush should be the leader to fight for anti-discrimination laws against white people. If Obama can write brown people, so can I. I think his obcession and hatred against white people, is in black and white, and hard indisputable evidence of his racial hatred. When you write an entire book against white people, and worship Malcom X and other militant blacks, who hate white people. I mean we are talking about extreme racism he has against white people.

  11. catie says:

Brutal Interrogation Policies? Well I would venture a guess if holder’s brats and the two punishments were harmed by extremist we’d see the One inflict way worse than just brutal interrogation policies.
Unfortunately we have to reap what these clowns sow.

Will this be the catylist for violent protests against the govorment?
