Obama Still Has Not ‘Plugged The Hole’

From a giddy Associated Press:

A nation mesmerized: Can BP plug the Gulf gusher?

By Ben Nuckols, Associated Press Writers

May 29, 2010

COVINGTON, La. – As the nation remained transfixed by a busted oil well spewing millions of gallons of crude into the Gulf of Mexico, BP said Saturday that its latest bid to plug the worst oil spill in U.S. history still hadn’t worked and scientists suggested any progress was incremental at best.

BP PLC chief operating officer Doug Suttles told reporters Saturday in Port Fourchon that the effort known as a "top kill" has not stopped the flow of oil, and that he doesn’t know if the risky maneuver will succeed. He said the company was already preparing its next option to cap the well.

Engineers may not know until at least Sunday if the fix is successful, and progress was difficult to measure from BP’s "spillcam" of mud, gas and oil billowing from the seafloor. Americans have been hypnotized as they watched for any sign of success…

The company, however, has cautioned that it’s difficult to gauge progress from the choppy video 5,000 feet undersea. Officials also have warned people not to read too much into any changes they might see on the live video feed, saying it also is not indicative of overall progress…

Meanwhile, President Barack Obama visited the coast Friday to see the damage as he tried to emphasize that his administration was in control of the crisis, which began April 20 when the Deepwater Horizon drilling platform blew up and killed 11 workers…

Hundreds of workers hit the beaches ahead of Obama’s visit, cleaning debris from the shoreline before they hopped on buses and left soon after the president arrived.

"This is the cleanest I’ve ever seen the beach," Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal said. "We saw a surge of activity the last couple of days. Let’s hope it continues now that he’s gone." …

A top kill has never been attempted 5,000 feet underwater, and public fascination is high.

BP, under pressure from Congress, made available a live video feed of what is going on underwater, and about 3,000 websites were showing a version of it that the PBS "Newshour" offered for free. On Thursday alone, show spokeswoman Anne Bell said, more than a million people watched it.

If only they would try plugging the hole with Mr. Obama’s massive opinion of himself, it might just work.

The wingnuts just won’t follow his commands.

His clear instruction was “plug the hole”, not “don’t plug the hole”.

    So it’s not his fault.

Time to make the oceans recede from the Louisiana coast.

Thank goodness we have a president who can do that.

It must be frustrating when you feel like you’re not being listened to, eh Barry?

  2. BigOil says:

Barry’s “plug the damn hole” rant could well be his ‘mission accomplished’ moment.

A feckless man-child stomping his feet clearly demonstrates he is in way over his ears head. Maybe the 20% of swing voters will finally come to the same conclusion we did years ago.

  3. tranquil.night says:

    Is God still a Democrat?

    Just wondering.

  4. Mithrandir says:

Boy, they have been setting this up for 6 weeks now haven’t they?

    If it’s a disaster, it’s BP’s fault.

If it is successful, Obama did it.

    All glory, no blame.

  5. ptat says:

Hey, you’re on to something there, Steve: how about plugging the hole with the abundant failures of the Obama Regime? With Obama’s broken campaign promises? With Obama’s empty verbosity? With all of the tax cheats in his regime? And finally, metaphorically speaking of course—what’s left of his brain dead followers….

  6. bobgoodson says:

Very noble of President Obama to take the blame for something he had nothing to do with.
The headline should read ” When are Halliburton and BP going to plug the hole”?

  7. bobgoodson says:

God IS an Independent in that she/he is completely above politics.

      Who is your “God,” bobgoodson?

bgs said: “God IS an Independent in that she/he is completely above politics.”

On the face of it, aside from the unnecessary application of political correctness, this is an attempt at “button-pushing” and needs to be ignored. So why am I not ignoring it? Because bobby again is rabble-rousing and needs to be shown for the community organizer that he is. An agitator, not a solution-finder but a problem-creator and troublemaker.

Keep coming back bobby; You’ll be afforded all the respect you deserve.

      bob never responds.

He only has only one tiny pea in his shooter.

No facts, no backup, no information. Just stink bombs.

      Typical libwit.

    • tranquil.night says:

I was kinda looking forward to a response too. He seemed so sure of himself with that capital IS, and that she/he PCness (with the she tastefully put first) – why, how modern intellectual! Surely there’s a whole piece to this puzzle that we’re all just too stupid to be seeing. We just don’t know all the facts, as Obama would say.

    • Steve says:

Alas, Bob has been kicked off the island.

Life is too short to waste it arguing with the deluded.

You could go back through thousands of posts on this website, and 99% of them would be clever (thank you LD, RB, JohnMG and others), hilarious (thank you ArtBoy), insightful (thanks Jobeth, TN, TZ, MR, confucious, BigOil, ROP, many others), informative (thanks BillK, canary, many others), inspirational (thank you SJ, others), or brilliant (thank you Petronius, Rusty, Retire05, misanthropicus and others). And many are a combination of all of those!

    Then there is bobgoodson.

Some people go through life with an image of themselves that is totally at odds with reality (Maxine Waters, the Moron). Usually they are rightly embarassed to play in a league that is way way over their heads.

Then there is bobgoodson. No humor. No self awareness. No insights. No intellignence. No nuthin.

    Typical liberal.

    • JohnMG says:

As great a tragedy that large quanatities of oil spilling into the gulf may be, the biggest hole that should be plugged is the one in the center of Obama’s face. His ENORMOUS pie hole. None of his inane blathering contributes to a solution. Rather, it only serves to keep the waters roiled. If only he would just shut up……..!!

Much of the world’s problems, and practically all of the problems we currently face in the US could (would) solve themselves via the ministrations of a free people functioning through the free market, under the umbrella of a free republic.

Anything that threatens that proven system should be quickly and effectively stiffled. Period!

Definitely the reason so many come to this “oasis in the desert” for normal opinions in the midst of a world gone totally insane. Speaking of sanity, here is someone unhappy about Obama’s dealing with this crisis..

The oasis in the desert indeed.

    • proreason says:

      Good clip, Gil.

It’s a microcosm of how the country feels about the Moron.

If this guy somehow remains in office, hell is going to look like a vacation spot….for a lot of reasons.

  9. proreason says:

As we contemplate the impending nationalization of the Oil Industry, have you ever wondered what would have happened to Gubamint Motors if the boy king hadn’t nationalized the auto industry.

Don’t feel bad….not a single person in the watchdog msm wondered either. They were so thrilled to see the demise of an emblem of free enterprise that they didn’t give a moment’s thought to the alternative.

Well, here is what would have happened:

    – GM and Chrysler would have filed for bankruptcy
    – Investors would have snapped up the assets (factories, vehicles, engineering plans, buildings, Intellectual property, etc.) like starving beasts. Why you ask? read on
    – The assets would have been bought at less than 50% of value, probably much less, yet they would all be 100% in operational condition. Probably 4 or 5 investment groups would have siezed the opportunity of a lifetime. Investors in those new businesses would have been near instant gazillionaires.
    – The new owners of the assets would have immediately broken the unions. But guess what? ALL of the brain people (engineers, designers, managers, etc.) would have hired on with the new owners lock, stock and barrel, for 80% or so of their old compensation, but without delux health and retirement benefits. After a short period of anger, most of the old UAW workers would have hired on at about 50% of their old compensation.
    – Overall, the cost structure of the new auto businesses would have been between 50% and 75% of the old businesses, and the long-term prospects for matching revenue to costs would have been infinitely better.
    – The current product line would have continued as is, except the prices would drop by 20-30%.
    – Sales would skyrocket.
    – Employment in the industry would jump.
    – New models would roll out faster than ever before.
    – Quality would improve dramatically.
    – There would probably be 4 or 5 competitors where there were only 2 before.
    – Cheaper cars and tens of thousands of new employees would have fueled a boom that may have triggered a nationwide job resurgance.
    – No dealerships would have been closed. New dealership would have begun springing up like mushrooms.
    – The legitimate bond-holders would have received 40% or so on their money, which they would re-invest in new businesses.
    – The rule of law would have been upheld. Investors all over the world would have had their confidence renewed in the American system.
    – The American taxpayers would have saved about $200 billion dollars, so the deficit would be sharply lower.

That’s how bankruptcy works you know.

And you can easily figure out why Obamy wouldn’t have let that happen in a milliions years.

Turns out saying it will not be plugged for a month was being conservative..

Presidential Aide Says Oil May Leak Until August
    Sunday, 30 May 2010

White House energy czar Carol Browner says oil might keep leaking into the Gulf of Mexico for months until relief wells are completed.

Browner tells NBC’s “Meet The Press” that the administration is “prepared for the worst.” That’s a scenario none of the measures under way will work, and oil leaks until relief wells are finished in August.

She says the government has ordered BP to drill two relief wells in case the first well doesn’t work.
