Obama Stresses US Military Cuts In EU Interview

From the Washington Examiner:

Obama highlights European ancestors during trip to Europe

By Charlie Spiering | March 24, 2014

President Obama highlighted his European roots in an interview with Dutch newspaper de Volkskrant, pointing out that the United States was firmly committed to the security of Europe…

Obama explained that the relationship with Europe had "evolved" since the Iron Curtain fell more than 20 years ago, encouraging European companies to share the responsibility of protecting their interests.

"As we have told our European allies many times, we want to see more European nations meeting their commitments when it comes to defense spending," he said. "In the United States, after two wars, we are moving toward a leaner military."

What a wonderful thing for Obama to stress while he is supposed to be finding ways to discourage Russia from invading Ukraine and making them leave Crimea. Obama might as well have sent Putin an engraved invitation to invade Ukraine and any of our NATO allies he would like to.

As for Europe’s defense spending, in reality, Obama could easily make the EU spend more on their defense. In fact, under the NATO treaty, they are already required to. But Obama will never not enforce those requirements because he is really quite happy with their lack of defense spending.

Meanwhile, the low information crowd are being force fed a steady stream of disinformation that is intended to make them believe that Obama really is doing things to punish Russia.

Such as this shameless piece from Reuters:

Russian economy grinding to a halt as Ukraine crisis takes heavy toll

By Darya Korsunskaya | March 24, 2014

MOSCOW (Reuters) – Russia’s economy is barely growing, inflation is rising fast, and capital is pouring out of the country, the Economy Ministry said on Monday, a sign that international tensions around Ukraine are already inflicting severe economic costs.

In February Russia’s GDP eked out growth of just 0.3 percent year-on-year, down from 0.7 percent in January, Russia’s Deputy Economy Minister Andrei Klepach said…

What a laugh. Obama has imposed ‘sanctions’ on a handful of Putin cronies. They are completely meaningless. And they certainly didn’t effect the Russian economy in February. This is nothing more than the Russians and Reuters trying to save Obama’s face.

And then there is this from the Atlantic:

After Kicking Out Russia, the G8 Is Now The G7

By Abby Ohlheiser | March 24, 2014

This year’s G8 summit won’t be in Sochi, Russia as planned. And it won’t include Russia at all, after the seven other world leaders in the group of industrialized nations decided to give Russia the boot. The seven leaders met at the behest of President Obama, and instead of Sochi, the now G7’s summer meeting will happen in Brussels.

In a statement, the G7 explained their reasoning. Surprise! It has to do with Russia’s annexation of Crimea…

And never mind that Russia has not been kicked out of the G8. (Which would be easy enough to do. And it should have been done by now.) But, once again, this headline and story is intended to make the low information crowd think Obama and Europe have done things to punish Russia, when they haven’t.

“we are moving toward a leaner military.”

Hopefully our former allies in Europe took that warning to heart.

For the dustbin of European history is littered with the bones of nations and tribes who relied on leaner, nimbler military forces.

As too are the forests of Katyn, Kurapaty, Bykivnia, and Butovo.

Not to mention the mass graves of our own heroes at Camp Douglas, Alton, Rock Island, Point Lookout, Elmira, and Fort Delaware.

    4. If you feint, make it count
    5. Feet wide apart, bounce on your toes. Flat footed = flat on the canvas.
