Obama Team Writing Love Note To Iran

From the UK’s Guardian:

A woman walks past a mural of a revolver bearing the colours of the US flag on the wall of the former US embassy in Tehran.

Revealed: the letter Obama team hope will heal Iran rift

Symbolic gesture gives assurances that US does not want to topple Islamic regime

Officials of Barack Obama’s administration have drafted a letter to Iran from the president aimed at unfreezing US-Iranian relations and opening the way for face-to-face talks, the Guardian has learned.

The US state department has been working on drafts of the letter since Obama was elected on 4 November last year. It is in reply to a lengthy letter of congratulations sent by the Iranian president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, on 6 November.

Diplomats said Obama’s letter would be a symbolic gesture to mark a change in tone from the hostile one adopted by the Bush administration, which portrayed Iran as part of an "axis of evil".

It would be intended to allay the suspicions of Iran’s leaders and pave the way for Obama to engage them directly, a break with past policy.

State department officials have composed at least three drafts of the letter, which gives assurances that Washington does not want to overthrow the Islamic regime, but merely seeks a change in its behaviour. The letter would be addressed to the Iranian people and sent directly to Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, or released as an open letter.

One draft proposal suggests that Iran should compare its relatively low standard of living with that of some of its more prosperous neighbours, and contemplate the benefits of losing its pariah status in the west. Although the tone is conciliatory, it also calls on Iran to end what the US calls state sponsorship of terrorism.

The letter is being considered by the new secretary of state, Hillary Clinton, as part of a sweeping review of US policy on Iran. A decision on sending it is not expected until the review is complete

The state department refused to comment yesterday on the draft letters…

Yes, it is vitally important that Iran understand they have nothing to fear from the United States.

We must assure them that they are free to do whatever they want without the slightest risk of consequences.

Remember, the Democrats (falsely) claimed that the first President Bush gave Saddam tacit permission to invade Kuwait when April Glaspie was too polite to the Iraqi dictator at a meeting.

But of course Mr. Obama sending a madman bouquets will only lead to sunshine and (more) unicorns for all.

Except for damn dirty Jews and other such infidels, of course.

Obama was listed as a Muslim in grade school. He says in his autobiography he studied the Koran.

More recently he claims to be a Christian. I forget what church he now is attending…

Does this conversion make him an apostate in the eyes of Islam? If so, will this apology to Iran avoid his death sentence?

    • beautyofreason says:

No, the Muslim love fest for Obama was careful to exclude him from charges of apostasy. Ingrid Mattson, President of the Islamic Society of North America (whom he considered to lead a prayer during Inauguration festivities), has suspected ties to Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood.

What did she say about claims that Obama is an apostate? Did she bravely reject Islamic law and announce that killing people who convert to another faith is wrong? No, she claimed that Obama was never a Muslim hence he cannot be considered an apostate – a.k.a. infidel targeted for termination.

She excused Obama on a technicality and not on principle. Kind of like when Afghanistan canceled the execution of an Christian man who converted from Islam over international pressure, citing “technicality.” It would as if Stalin supporters had said “we have no reason to kill the average man so long as he doesn’t criticize the government.” And the liberals cheer for the quiet man.

Note, that during the election, nobody could use BO’s middle name, which happens to be Hussein. Good for Ann Coulter and others for calling him B. Hussein Obama. Suddenly, it is real cool to use that name! What a phony that guy is. In one week he has dismantled our counterterrorism program and ruined the economy. And I thought that Jimmah Carter was a disaster.

    …..”Although the tone is conciliatory…..”

‘And just where would you like me to kiss your ass Mr. Nut Job?’, said …..”by the new secretary of state, Hillary Clinton…..”

This requires us to question all credibility–Hillary being conciliatory to anyone.

They (Obama accolytes) really DO believe we are that gullible.

  3. TickTock says:

I can hear Pat Boone crooning “Love Letters In the Sand…”

O’Bamy will attempt to pacify these Vermin, and they will say, ‘Oh, yes, we love you too’…kis, kiss…

Then another 911 will occur, perhaps nuclear… and O’Bamy will pout ‘I thought we were friends, snif.’

Wrong-headed. Has this idiot learned nothing? He is the 21st century Neville Chamberlain.

    • jobeth says:

      Hey TickTock

You better tell the lefty lurkers who ol’ Neville was…(grin)! Bet not one in a thousand could tell who he was.

      Remember they have rewritten history…!

    • Arctain says:

…”He is the 21st century Neville Chamberlain.”

As Obama said in his interview with al-Arabiya, the U.S. will extend the hand of friendship to Iran, if they unclenched their hand first. This is exactly a Chamberlain response to a threatening enemy. The same worn-out idea that dictatorships arise from popular grievances – and thus can be rehabilitated by addressing those grievances – is exactly the tact that Chamberlain mistakenly took with Hitler. Appeasement, whether it be military, economic or diplomatic, does not rehabilitate a bully.

A bully is only emboldened by appeasement – and that is exactly how Ahmadinejad responded to Obama’s weak message of “Yes, we can… all get along.” Ahmadinejad responded with demands – most of us would call them demands of extortion if they weren’t so laughable – in an attempt to humiliate the US. Since Obama appears so cowardly or so intellectually inept – or both – Iran will, of course, jump at the chance to bully the U.S. by playing the victim. And we all know how much a liberal loves a victim…

If you want a nuclear Iran, please, by all means, continue this path of appeasement. Your decisions, Mr. President, will determine the cost in future American lives when an emboldened Iran ships Hamas a nuclear weapon. Recognize your weakness, Mr. President, and resist the urge to give in, give, up, and whither. Stand up to the bully that is Iran. We can either fight them now, through strong, tough-as-nails diplomacy, or fight them later through military means. The difference will be counted in the blood and treasure our children expend on the battlefield.

“Symbolic gesture gives assurances that US does not want to topple Islamic regime”

You speak for yourself Prez O’balmy….I DO want to topple this Islamic regime…It wants to Blankity Blank KILL ME!

“The US state department has been working on drafts of the letter since Obama was elected on 4 November last year”.

Yep, Got to get that “bend over” position jusssst right. Can’t offend the regime that wants to kill every Jew in the world and have the US for dessert. If we just talk to them and appease them, they will just love us soooo much!

After all, that has worked so well for the Europeans. Since they kissed butt, they no longer have to fear subway bombings or nightclub bombings etc etc. Yeah, right!

  6. Odie44 says:

Just another example of how dumb Bambi and his people are.

A letter to our staunch enemies is going to “change” things???

If and when they send this crapola draft – I guarantee it will hit AL Jezeera, and positioned as the “capitulation of American Zionists and their yellow spines to back down form Allah”

i.e. Open game on Jews, Americans, increase in nuclear efforts and oil exports to China, etc.

The most dangerous part of these dopes – they truly believe parroting “the failed 8 years of Bush” is the precedence for them to act foolish today and in the future.

Iran is ina desperate position, with imports exceeding exports of oil, combined with $40 a barrel, declining yellow cake uranium and dwindling revenue to their state. It is the perfect storm to force Iran into a corner, for their threats are limited.

    • jobeth says:

“A letter to our staunch enemies is going to “change” things??? ”

Yep, it will, but not the kind of change you and I want.

“It is the perfect storm to force Iran into a corner, for their threats are limited.”

You’re so right. But he will find someway to batten down the hatches FOR IRAN. I don’t expect him to let that stop him from bending over and putting this country and Israel at risk.

After all he’s just helping the “poor” and”misunderstood”. (gag)

  8. proreason says:

The Moron doesn’t want peace even if he could get it.

Communist/Socialist countries also use wars and the threat of wars to control the serfs. It’s almost as handy as socialism.

Of course, in that way, they are just like other politicians.

  9. Reality Bytes says:

As Ann so eloquently said on Hannity last night, “Somewhere, deep inside Obama, Jimmy Carter is screaming to get out.” (Paraphrasing).

  10. Anonymoose says:

I always felt sorry for Glaspie being dragged through the mud by the Dems, since from everything I’ve heard she knew her stuff well. As if an ambassador meeting Saddam for the first time could know he was going to invade one week later.

  11. Reality Bytes says:

    I miss Bush/Cheney more than I thought.

  12. caligirl9 says:

Didn’t Clinton send a stern letter when the USS Cole was bombed?

Yeah, that kind of diplomacy works.

    • Rusty Shackleford says:

He was even more aggressive than that. He got with “his people” and made it against the law to do such things. He is reported to have said, “That’ll show ’em, nyuk nyuk, nyuk.”.

  13. Reality Bytes says:

“We will not allow Iran to have a nuclear weapon.” – GW Bush

“If you weren’t so mean, maybe we could be friends.” – Barack Obama

Shhheesh! And they called Bush the idiot!

  14. Reality Bytes says:

SG – My First S&L Post from 2007 when “This War Is Lost” – I thought an appropriate reminder:

Our Greatest Collective Sin: Our turning a blind eye toward the oppression of any people’s God given unalienable right of freedom, liberty & the pursuit of happiness is coming home – to your home & to mine.

Like water, power seeks its own level. Power has two poles, one is Good & the other is Evil. Love is the greatest of these and there is no limit to the height that mutual care, respect and understanding will take us. Conversely, Evil knows no lowest level of thought and effect. Its depth is as infinite in misery as great are the highlights of Goodness.

Though we are not perfect, the fruits of freedom are everywhere where those who wish better for their own and their neighbor is not always with fame & fortune, but at least with opportunity. Goodness, therefore, is naturally more powerful than the fear of evil. We only need to apply it for our own sake as well as the sake of those who cower under our enemies.

Unfortunately, by our own inaction to stand up for those who remain under the grip of threats of death and worse – from those like this demon from Hell, Ahmadinejad, we too are now living under the “outsourcing” of their terror to our shores & the land of our neighbors. Even when they wrought their murder on our own innocents, we accepted their terrorism as “collateral damage”, so long as we didn’t rock the boat for the sake of life as usual. Some among us even claim that it is our own doing. How perverted! How delusional!

Are we to hate this enemy? Like a snake that injects its poison with its bite, they are only doing what comes natural to them. Is it even a sin? Aren’t they somehow justified? Some may argue about this. Even still then, the Greatest Evil is doing nothing to stop them. The decision, however, to stop Evil need not be out of hate, nor for vengeance but for Goodness Sake.

We cannot change the past that is filled with holocausts that were, like massacres of today, the result of “minding our own business” while others suffered. Those days are past. But they are back & more sinister and deadly than ever.

If this appeasement of evil continues, it will be our values & the thriving culture they bore that will slip into history, not the evils of these viper terrorists. And, perhaps the saddest part of all is that that history will be written by the likes of President Ahmadinejad.

This failure of freedom will not be the fault of our own Presidents & Prime Ministers. It will not be the fault of our military leaders, men & women. Rather, it will lie at the feet of us, the civilians, the rank & file who failed to support them in their sworn duty to protect us from all powers, foreign and domestic who wish us harm.

If Goodness is truly greater than Evil then the final resolution of peace is inevitable. But how long will the torture, the terror and the loss of loved ones be allowed before the final outcome is realized? This is The Question for Our Time & The Time is Now. Who Will Go First? May God be with those who will go & God help those of us who won’t.

  15. GuppyNblue says:

Iran has called for the annihilation of Israel, sponsors terrorism around the globe and has been developing nuclear material to a weapon’s grade. If this isn’t enough to convince Obama that they’re not the kind of nation we can trust in a diplomatic relationship, then nothing will. We won’t admit their treachery until an evil deed is already done.

Nations like Israel and Taiwan should consider this closely. They can’t rely on the United States to prevent their destruction. Obama might write up an aid package to bury their dead afterwards, but they’re on their own otherwise. They should also ask a question that our media won’t – is Barack Hussein Obama just gullible or is it that he might sympathize with Iran’s goals?

  16. 12 Gauge Rage says:

What world does our new president live in? Most of us have known from going to school that while there are those who will leave you alone if you do the same to them, there are also those who look upon your quiet demeanor as a sign of weakness and bully you to no end. Until you stand up to them. From the time of Ayatollah Khomeini, Iran has never sought the path of peace but rather the way of extreme violence. And although they may not believe it, the time will come when these violent thugs who live by the sword will die by the sword.

I just read this at Breitbart via gatewaypundit .

Iran says Obama’s offer to talk shows US failure
“This request means Western ideology has become passive, that capitalist thought and the system of domination have failed,” Gholam Hossein Elham was quoted as saying by the Mehr news agency.”

Of course we all saw this coming. The only thing terrorist nations respect is the strength to stop them. They didn’t become what they are through trust and compassion.
