Obama Tells GOP To Help With Economy

From an irony oblivious Reuters:

Obama urges Republicans to help him revive economy

January 4, 2011

ABOARD AIR FORCE ONE (Reuters) – President Barack Obama appealed to Republican congressional leaders on Tuesday to put politics aside and work to revive the U.S. economy.

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on his way back to Washington from a vacation in Hawaii, Obama said "we’ve started to make good progress" on the economy, adding: "I expect to build on that progress when I get back."

And what progress. Mr. Obama and the Democrats got the Republicans to pass huge spending and deficit increases. He got the Republicans to pass a bill forcing openly homosexual soldiers on our fighting men. He got the Republicans to agree to the START treaty which is designed to weaken US security.

And he did all of this and a lot more after a resounding repudiation by the American voters in the November elections. That’s what he calls "progress." That’s what he wants to build on.

In Washington, newly empowered Republicans in Congress were preparing challenges to Obama…

A senior Republican aide said on Monday the House planned to vote on January 12 on Republican legislation to repeal the president’s healthcare law approved last year, and predicted it would pass in the House…

Even if the repeal fails, Republicans will hold considerable sway over the government purse strings and try to use that power to deny the Obama administration’s requests on financing to implement the healthcare law.

How obstreperous of them. Was this what the American people voted for? (Actually, come to think of it, it was.)

Republicans in Congress could put the budget squeeze on two powerful agencies, the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, to slow Obama’s Wall Street reforms passed last year.

Gosh those Republicans hate "reforms." What is wrong with them? Don’t they want to revive the economy?

"You know, I think that there’s going to be politics. That’s what happens in Washington — that they (Republicans) are going to play to their base for a certain period of time," Obama said aboard Air Force One.

Whereas Mr. Obama plays to his base all the time. And we all know that his base is just crazy about reviving the economy come hell or high water. (Aka ‘global warming.’)

"But I’m pretty confident that they’re going to recognize that our job is to govern and make sure that we are delivering jobs for the American people and that we’re creating a competitive economy for the 21st century, not just for this generation but for the next one."

Yes, when are those damn obstructionist Republicans going to recognize that? When are they going to finally buckle down and get serious about governing and creating jobs — and growing the ‘green economy’ that is so clearly necessary to the next generation?

Obama appealed to the two top Republicans in Congress, incoming House Speaker John Boehner and Mitch McConnell, the Senate Republican leader. McConnell has said his main objective is to deny Obama a second term as president.

"And so my expectation, my hope is that John Boehner and Mitch McConnell will realize that there will be plenty of time to campaign for 2012 in 2012, and that our job this year is to make sure that we build on the recovery," Obama added.

When will the GOP leadership finally stop grandstanding for their base and their lapdog news media? Why can’t they be non-partisan like Mr. Obama.

Goodness know the elections in 2012 are the farthest thing from his mind.

By the way, Mr. Obama’s senior adviser David Axelrod plans to head to Chicago this month to head Obama’s re-election campaign. And more of Obama’s staff are planning to follow Mr. Axelrod to Chicago, according to news reports.

It’s not the RINO’s so much as it is the HIPPO-crites. (From the Dept. of Redundancy Dept.)

It’s always soda-through-the-nose funny when I read the crapola that Barry the wonder-boy says in an effort to sound legit. He’s a flaming turd of a president and he knows it and I simply want the republicans to say no for the next two years and let government come to a standstill. It would be the best thing, ever.

“I simply want the republicans to say no for the next two years and let government come to a standstill. It would be the best thing, ever.”

      Right on.

The country is full of local charities, such as Lions clubs, that will take care of those in need.

And city cops and state police will keep the peace.

Best thing that could happen to the government. The essential agencies like Defense, Justice, Treasury and DHS would still be operational but the rest of the money wasting crap like HUD, HHS and all the other alphabet agencies would be shut down and not able to waste money. Just like when Slick Willy wouldn’t bend to the Republican’s will back in the ’90s. That was the most efficient the government has ever run, at least since before the Great Depression.

Now that I have left the employ of my Uncle Sammy and I’m working for a private company I feel I once again have the right to criticize the feds. I left only two years short of retirement but with what that bitch Janet the Ignorant has done to the DHS I couldn’t stomach working for her anymore. Once things change I may go back and get my final two years but if I never do, at least I know can live with myself which is far more important than money.

A gov’t that does NOTHING is a blessing! But liberals can’t stand to see their baby not cranking out more laws and regulations by the day. So….Republicans cave and bed-wet at the first negative media reports calling them “heartless” and “cruel.”

Republicans have a tendency to NOT BE TONE-DEAF when they need to be. They always peer over their shoulder to see if liberals are angry with them or not, then cave when the media won’t let up.

If Republicans can’t reverse anything, the 2nd best choice is to DO NOTHING!

“If Republicans can’t reverse anything, the 2nd best choice is to DO NOTHING!”

The Repubs won’t reverse anything except perhaps Obamacare. I was reminded over the weekend that Bill Bennett was Secretary of Education and, guess what, the dept of educartion still exists. If you can’t disassemble a dept when you have charge of it then when where how will it disappear?

  3. Papa Louie says:

The best thing for the economy is to stop diverting money from the private sector to the public sector. An ever shrinking private sector cannot continue to support an ever growing public sector. That would be like expecting a starving person to recover his health without doing anything about the growing tape worm inside him. So, yes, the Republicans can help Obama revive the economy by getting rid of their “go along to get along” attitude and truly becoming the Party of No.

  4. hushpuppy says:

King Obama is certainly helping the economy. Remember all those expensive vacations? Here are the numbers according to a report in a Hawaiian newspaper. Too much to quote so you’ll have to read the article.

Have y’all got your migraine and blood pressure meds handy?

  5. TerryAnne says:

I’m so sick of Obama’s I and me crap that if I started screaming, it would be a long time before I could quiet down. I cannot believe that his arrogance and narcissism has yet to show a dent from the “shellacking” he’s been getting as of late. Ugh!

  6. Liberals Demise says:

Anybody want an Obama snow cone?

    Looks nice…….tastes like ___!

  7. Mae says:

The little dictator doesn’t like having to think about the economy, other than his input into the snow cone kitty, while he’s away. “I expect to build on that progress when I get back.” I see–so he took a vacation from being President when he closed up the Hawaiian beach for his relax time. Just wait until he runs into the new Conservative roadblock House and Jim DeMint’s integrity. We’ll give him something to think about all right. Defund. Defund. Defund Obamacare as a starter; then the EPA and the FCC and HUD, DOE, DUH and DUMB! Can hardly wait for the booing and/or silent hands at the State of the Union address. “You lie!!”

  8. Mithrandir says:

Once you all finally realize that politicans care ONLY about power, and will take up a cause that will get votes to keep them there, frighten their base and the other side’s base to keep the money flowing in for election cycles. . .

THEN YOU WILL REALIZE what an evil manipulative system this really is. They don’t care about you, but you think they do. Just sit back and think of all the screwed up things that need to be reversed, and all the good things that need to be enacted, then you will realize the hopelessness of it all. – – None of that will be fixed in 100 lifetimes.

    • AcornsRNutz says:

Depends on your idea of fixed. This system can’t stay afloat unchanged for more than one more lifetime.

  9. wardmama4 says:

Sorry Mithrandir – THAT ATTITUDE is why our gov & society is in the trouble it is. NOTHING in DC is permanent – it can be undone And We The People must believe that and hold strong to it – and DEMAND that our elected ‘representatives’ (definition, not office) do what we want.

I will hold my breath until the first let down – then I will work to promote the next Tea Party Candidate in my area. But I will push my ‘representatives’ to do just that – listen and represent the people who elected them.

Think about this – if they continue to destroy and/or take over industries – which put more and more people onto ‘gov dole’ – whose going to be feeding the machine? There is a tipping point – where their damage actually begins to damage them more than us. I AM AN AMERICAN, I can eat, dress, and survive without Uncle Obama holding my hand or appointing someone to tell me how to do it. Can the crapweasels in DC get along without my tax dollars?
