Obama Terror Adviser: No Smoking Gun

From an eager to forgive and forget Associated Press:

Obama adviser: No smoking gun in airline bomb plot

By Anne Gearan, AP National Security Writer

January 3, 2010

WASHINGTON – U.S. intelligence agencies did not miss a "smoking gun" that could have prevented an alleged attempt to blow up a U.S. airliner on Christmas Day, President Barack Obama’s top counterterrorism adviser said Sunday.

White House aide John Brennan cited "lapses" and errors in the sharing of intelligence and clues about the Nigerian man accused in the foiled attempt.

"There is no smoking gun," Brennan said. "There was no single piece of intelligence that said, ‘this guy is going to get on a plane.’"

Brennan is leading a White House review of the incident…

Brennan cited "a number of streams of information" — the 23-year-old suspect’s name was known to intelligence officials, his father had passed along his concern about the son’s increasing radicalization — and "little snippets" from intelligence channels. "But there was nothing that brought it all together."

"In this one instance, the system didn’t work. There were some human errors. There were some lapses. We need to strengthen it. But day in and day out, the successes are there."

"What we need to do as an intelligence community, as a government, is be able to bring those disparate bits and pieces of information together so we prevent Mr. Abdulmutallab from getting on the plane." …

How often will a father, a prominent man, come forward to warn the authorities about the extremism of his own son?

This should have been enough to land Mr. Abdulmutallab on the US’s no fly list. It was good enough for the British.

Add to that the fact that the CIA was monitoring this miscreant, and there is no way he should have been allowed on a plane to the US.

That is certainly a ‘smoking gun’ by normal (pre-Obama) standards.

By the way, the brilliant Mr. Brennan also told Fox News that the Obama administration will continue to send Guantanamo detainees to Yemen. “Guantanamo must be closed,” Brennan said. “It has served as a propaganda tool for al Qaeda.”

Which begs the questions: shouldn’t we close Hollywood, too? Also the fashion industry, and the pop music culture — since they are recruiting tools for al Qaeda, as well.

It would take a lot more than they have to give for them to admit the truth about this attack. Unless it fits the Leftist narrative, they want no part of it. This mindless drivel will get a lot of Americans killed before it’s all said and done.

    • Melly says:

You are so right. We, as a nation, are on a dangerous course. It’s one thing to have a socialist domestic agenda, but Barry is leading us to another 9/11.

No smoking gun – it’s laughable.

    • JohnMG says:

The “smoking gun” they should be looking for is the one being pulled from the ears of every one of these highly suspect nut-jobs. Alas, it’s the only “smoking gun” that would have a long-term effect on terrorism…..and the one least likely to be employed by our current crop of government crazies.

What this tool Brennan just said couldn’t be forced into my head, nor out of my mouth, by any amount of arm-twisting from the administration. Every one of these turds take an oath to uphold the Constitution and to defend this country from all enemies–foreign or domestic. This even applies to a charlatain who manages to bu11sh1t his way into the White House.

I want my country back——minus this current gaggle of fools!!!

  2. AcornsRNuts says:

Well They said it. Its true. We have always been at war with Eurasia. We have always been allied with Eastasia. I have won the victory against myself, I love BIg Barry.

  3. beautyofreason says:

Oh, I can think of several smoking guns in past two terror attacks that our nation experienced last year.

Abdul Mutallab (Christmas Day, failed bombing)

    The Suspect:

Was banned from Britain (a place with a growing cesspool of Islamic supremacists)

Has ties to a radical cleric

    Wrote online of “jihad fantasies”

Told British friends that 9/11 was a good thing, and that his biggest goal was for Shariah law to spread around the world.

His extremism was reported by his Muslim father to the United States

    Had “fun time” in Yemen

    Hasan (Fort Hood massacre)

    The suspect:

Turned a public medical lecture into a discourse on why non-Muslims should face beheading and have hot oil poured down their throats.

Wrote online that suicide bombing was an acceptable practice

Contacted a radical cleric (same one as former)

Told his colleagues that Shariah law came before the Constitution.

Gentlemen, we are dealing with children. This administration is worse than bureaucratic; it is negligent. It will say anything to cover its ass. And we have several smoking guns that point to its incompetence.

  4. proreason says:

The last 3 presidents of the Muslim student association where the panty-bomber went to university in Britain have all been tied to terrorism.

The panty-bomber was one of them.

But it’s not like he called up the Moron and told him he was going to blow a plane up. THAT might be a smoking gun. Or maybe not.

    • MinnesotaRush says:

Now, now, Pro .. be fair. It would only be a smoking gun if the bomber TOLD o-blah-blah and gang, what flight, what seat he’d be in, and what kinds of explosives he’d be using. Then .. we might have the ‘smoking gun’.

      Just maybe, tho.

  5. Liberals Demise says:

This isn’t a case of the CIA dropping the ball anymore.
It is more or less a case of CYA Obama style.
I consider this dingleBarrys “Hurricane Katrina” due to his lapse in response to the incident.

Who is that singing, “Send in the Clowns?”

  6. U NO HOO says:

No smoking gun? We had a son of a smoking peter gun.

If you know what I mean.

  7. U NO HOO says:

Smoking gun refers to after the fact, like the bloody knife in the bloody hand.

In this case the dots weren’t connected, again.

The guy had a bomb in his pants. And we knew he was a bad guy.

Maybe if Obama talks nice to the guy he won’t try it again.

  8. Rusty Shackleford says:

They’re smoking something alright. Has nothing to do with a gun. Maybe that’s what they mean.

  9. GL0120 says:

Okay, so it’s now official, there’s no smoking gun, no connection to terrorism.
So that means that you can walk into any 7-11 in the Mideast (do they have American clerks?) and pick up PETN.

  10. wirenut says:

With a smoking gun, one would smell the distinct aroma of spent powder. No, this has a much more pungent almost acrid bouquet. Like a blowtorch being applied to a scapegoat. We’re not that ignorant mr. brennan.

  11. sheehanjihad says:

uh, allahmetalbathtub IS…I repeat IS the “smoking gun”!! ah, yo Brennan….you must remember, you arent talking to the usual libtard believe everything they’re told crowd…..oh, wait. You thought you were! LOL….well, as wirenut said…we are not that ignorant. But, you are, evidently.

  12. mathews says:

what about “smoking pants”?? how can the Liberal Socialist Democrats be so delusional just boggles my mind. what about being briefed back in Oct Brennan??, what about letting Patriot Act provisions expire?? something much worse will happen soon, let’s see how they blame G.W. Bush as it’s apparent they are trying to blame this on Dick Cheney. Can not wait for Cheney’s response on Monday, blow torch time.

  13. MinnesotaRush says:

But by the grace of God, we don’t have the smoking remnants of a downed plane and its’ passengers and crew.

Somebody might wanna let o-blah-blah and the rest of his playground buddies know.

  14. joeblough says:

The smoking gun is sitting in the oval office congratulating himself on his lovely baritone voice.

As Steve comments above, there was a PLENTY of obviously damning evidence that Al-mutt-face or whatever his name is, was likely to do something nasty.

But there was one factor in the mix that nearly everyone overlooked — the jihad-sympathizer in the White House.

He sits there like a fat spider, handing out goodies to his friends and disabling America’s resistance to the jihad.

  15. canary says:

The problem is the age & generation of these idiots in charge, did not have the the “young adult” and “R” rated movies school curriculum are breeding schools starting at 4th grade. This is for Senior year, but do to increase of suicide Freshmen year, it was necessary to assign this to 14 & 15 yr olds
    English Class.

When the students have finished this lesson, they:
    2. …methods that authors use to instill fear
3… fear in a creative assignment.

Resources: Short Story, The Most Dangerous Game, by Richard Connell; and movie The Blair Witch Project, released summer 1999, or Hitchcock’s Psycho.

Tasks: 1. Ask what made The Most Dangerous Game frightening, or was it at all?
(This question allows the teacher to see if child might have sociopathic
(or I guess to see if child immune due to an abnormal upbringing such as Obama enjoyed and chose)

    4. Talk about how Connell inspires fear without obvious bloodshed/grotesqueness. Hopefully, they will come up with some of the following: isolation, setting, power/powerlessness, conflict, suspense, and control/lack of control.

    5. Ask why The Blair Witch Project (or Psycho, depending on which movie you choose to use) was scary.
    6. Draw parallels between the movie and The Most Dangerous Game.

Homework: If you were going to direct the movie how would you do it? ….
(child is to pretend they are big time hollywood producer, no budget limit, choose famous for roles.)

Pitch your idea to me on audiotape and hand it in next class.
And they when the Columbine kids did their violent video, their teachers objections were ignored. When the Virginia Tech English teacher of the immigrant student who shot up Va Tech, had previously complained of his morbid sick story’s & poem’s he wrote.

I read one of the poems that Obama’s communist mentor & and surrogate father Frank Davish Marshall wrote, was shocking and racist. Black man down the hall married white b”””), though he was married to one. Obama’s occasional poem is same easy style.

Sorry if this isn’t relevant, but the future generation will be like Obama immune to sexual deviant behavior, gore, voo-doo gangs, head-hunters.

    • canary says:

The scariest movie I think a child could make without blood, but suspense, would be Obama as President.

    • canary says:

So, all the Gitmo terrorists will be found innocent to appease al Qaeda? But, on the other hand the Obombies are defending trials in NYC as suitable to give al Qaeda a message in regards to the incident that happened 9/11.

“Guantanamo must be closed,” Brennan said. “It has served as a propaganda tool for al Qaeda.”

  16. Media_man says:

Brennan is a career CIA top official whose judgment is entirely dependent on the prevailing political winds. Is the CIA worth anything at all? They seem to be infiltrated (at least in their top management) with Democrats. Do they provide any intelligence at all, aside from how to throw elections to their Democrat patrons?

Maybe its time to scrap it and hand all intelligence over to the military. These dogs don’t hunt.

  17. lunaticcringeradio says:

“What we need to do as an intelligence community, as a government, is be able to bring those disparate bits and pieces of information together so we prevent Mr. Abdulmutallab from getting on the plane.”

that’s completely impossible to connect all these dots together because the progressive liberal policies would dictate to do so at any step along the way could be considered “racial profiling” and that is completely out. we can never look at the people with scrutiny who actually and statistically and stereotypically are the types of people who are motivated, funded, supplied, and engage in terrorism.
the only reason those people are alive today is because the moron screwed up, but if he had succeeded those people would be dead today because progressive liberal policies did on multiple occasions exactly what they were designed to do, ignore the real problems in lieu of some pseudo guilt trip that dictates the core of ignorance in our security procedures. those people are alive today because he failed, if he hadn’t they’d be dead because progressive liberal policies succeeded.
progressive liberals will say it’s impossible to prescreen or predict or connect the dots before an event has occurred, that’s is a %100 certainty, if you continue to use progressive liberal policies.

  18. jrmcdonald says:

Now the MSM will drop the story as done…

  19. Warmonger Infidel says:

Someone should lock Brennan and Napolitano in a room together so they can slobber over each other while dreaming up the next outrageous spin-doctor spew to foist on the American people.

Some people say the panty-boy terrorist bomber failed in his attempt to blow up the flight. While it is true he didn’t blow up the aircraft, he surely didn’t fail in creating terror for the American public and stupid knee-jerk reactions from TSA to increase security. He jerked our chain and we responded. That’s a perfect definition of successful terrorism, no matter what Obama or his mouthpiece minions call it. By that definition, it wasn’t an attempt either. He did it and succeeded in his quest. As someone stated, it was only dumb luck that his success wasn’t more spectacular.

So today we have more stupid TSA rules that won’t accomplish a damn thing except create a tingling in someones leg. We are now going to increase screening for anyone traveling from certain nations that either support terrorism or have been know to have terrorist withing their borders. Really? How about no one from these countries can come to the U. S.? And how long will it take for those wanting to do harm to America to just fly from a different location? Or that elephant in the room, just walk across our southern border.

I flew domestically 2 days after Christmas. The only increased security I observed was more Grannys being pulled aside from secondary screening. What morons we have in charge of protecting the public.

  20. GetBackJack says:

Quoting Del Gue, from Jeremiah Johnson …

    “…Well, it t’weren’t Mormons …”

  21. I heard Mark Steyn on the radio this morning.

He mentioned the thousands of people wrongly placed on the “No fly list”, and their frustrating attempts to get removed from that list.

There is no ‘smoking gun’ for these people, either. Does this mean the system works?

  22. GL0120 says:

I’ve finally put two and two together and have come to believe that many of these so called terrorists are actually looking for the good life here in the states.
It makes sense when you think about it; there are restrictions on their legal immigration and they can’t come through Mexico (they’ve tried but the Mexicans keep turning them in, (illegal immigration is their ball game and they don’t want the competition), so there’s only one other sure way to the good life – pretend to be a terrorist!
They board a plane and pretend they’re going to blow it up.
They get busted and sent to prison where they’re clothed, given three square, Kosher, meals a day, have access to at least television and a gym.
There’s no way on earth they could live so well in the Mideast.

  23. wirenut says:

L.D ,Haw! Terrorists, islam and muslims, Oh, My! Kosher LOL! Since when has anybody ever heard of the “revenge of the Gitmo detainment”? Or, remember the “Gitmo”, from the murder cult???? I thought not. They murder at will for no reason other than to kill. Gitmo is the perfect place for east meets west. Islam meets U.S. Military. U.S. Military has bait for deep ocean fishing. Never seen from or heard from again.
Remember: Nothing in nature is wasted.
