"Congress would need to draft legislation enacting the measure and approve it."

Why?

What changed?

The Democratic Party better get their licks in real quick because in 2010 the Tea Party Express is going to roll into towns across what the liberals now call America....United Socialist States of America and vote OUT all these bums out of office. Socialized healthcare is unacceptable in the U.S.S. of A.

Well said Petronius.

It's about more than money.

It's about your life and the lives of your descendents.

The seriousness of the matter cannot be overstated.

And if you don't believe it, study history for just a few moments.

Confiscating you money and your life is THE NORM throughout history.

The land we live in has been the rare exception for 400 years.

And if you don't think freedom is worth fighting for, consider your children.

And if you don't think it is happening before your very eyes, consider the regal splendor The Moron now insists upon, while seniors are about to have the medicare budget cut by $400 billion so that people who have never paid into the system will vote for the monster.

"The day of reckoning is coming."

It already has, Petronius.
We are broke and he keeps writing checks on a busted account!

It's Barrry's handout of the week. Hopefully seniors are smart enough not to be bought off by $250.

What will be the first to melt down - the printing presses at the treasury or the currency? I'd bet what is left of my money on the currency.

Obama stops COLA increases on social security for the first time in 36 years since 1973. He's also starting a program called ASPIRE putting 500 dollars for new baby's in a govt bank account for when they reach 18. And you can add to your child's account, and hope it stays there. 37.5 billion over the next ten decades. $250 dollars for each old person, instead of spreading it out in a puny COLA increase. I think Obama is spending money like it's grown on tree. Wouldn't surprise me if he's gotten to knows a few counterfieters considering his growing up in bad company.

By the way, here's yet another reason why Republicans do <b>not</b> deserve our support, even with Democrats in charge:

<blockquote><b>Republican leaders said they, too, favor the proposal</b>, but without increasing the deficit.

Rep. John Boehner, R-Ohio, said he wanted to use unspent funds from last year's stimulus legislation to offset the cost.

Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky said he expected members of his rank and file would also want to offset the estimated $13 billion cost.</blockquote>

So really, what's the difference here between Dems and Republicans? They both just want to hand out $250 checks to seniors for <b>no reason whatsoever</b>.

Sure Republicans want to find the cash <b>elsewhere</b>, but they're still behind the "Hey, here's $250 on us!" handouts.

Boy, it feels good to play Santa with taxpayer dollars, doesn't it?

A senior who paid into Medicare for 35 years with an averge salary of 50K per year would have accrued <strike>a benefit of</strike> at least $50,000, and that assumes that payments only kept up with inflation (35*50,000*1.45%*2). If the person had the ability to invest and get a conservative return of 3% above inflation, the <strike>benefit</strike> accrued sum would be worth about $90,000.

Anybody would be a fool to give up any of that for $250.

But it's really not about money. It's about your life.

As Robert Reich admitted in the clip I posted yesterday, Obamycare is going to stop medical advances. And anybody who doesn't think there will be rationing of medical care, particularly for older people, is a damned fool.

Steve: "older people ... will be paying for Medicare for people who, unlike them, have never paid one penny into the Medicare system."

Liberal politicians now operate the Federal government as a criminal enterprise. This is clear to regular readers of S&L who have followed closely the postings of Proreason, myself, and other contributors to this web site.

Years ago the Liberals embarked on a course of enacting schemes to redistribute the wealth and property of taxpaying Americans.

Wealth was channeled to their favored constituencies. Today there are many such schemes, or government programs as they are generally called, with new ones always added every year. None of these old programs are ever discontinued; rather, they grow like a cancer, with new “entitlements” continually being bolted onto the original programs. The number of moochers also grows, to the point where today the moochers outnumber taxpayers by a safe margin. In our one-man-one-vote democracy, the tipping point between taxpayers and tax-eaters was reached years ago.

In time, Liberal politicians, having long become accustomed to being generous with our money and property, began also to become generous with our countries.

They imported a new electorate, an electorate largely dependent on the government entitlement programs. They encouraged and welcomed the great mass migrations of Islamic jihadists and poor peoples from Third World countries––poor peoples, illiterate in their own languages, coming by the millions, by the tens of millions, not to join us, but to establish isolated enclaves and colonies, and to take over and expropriate our homelands in the West for themselves. Most of our major cities and other areas of our countries in Europe, North America, Australia, and elsewhere have now been successfully redistributed to migrants and colonists.

The Liberals have now reached the point where they are also able to redistribute years of our lives. They even wish to redistribute parts of our bodies.

They already do this in the UK, Canada, and other countries with socialized medicine, through a system of rationing, under the banner of “free” healthcare. Of course there is nothing “free” about it––rather, enslavement is the general rule. Redistribution occurs by means of enslavement of medical providers and the medical industry, imposition of wage and price controls, reduced supplies and quality of medical goods and services, growth in demand through open borders and unchecked immigration –– all of which invariably results in scarcity of medical resources, cessation of medical research and innovation, rationing, waiting lists, reduced quality, and bureaucratic government decisions about which tests, treatments, drugs, medical devices, and surgeries will or will not be made available, and to whom they will be made available, and under what conditions. The end game is not only enslavement of the medical industry, but of the patients––and particularly senior citizens––as well.

In many cases medical resources are allocated first according to political priorities, rather than for medical or economic reasons. Thus resources are allocated with priority given for abortions, for migrants with young families, affirmative action goals, hospital staff interpreters, government staff, and the like, while senior citizens experience a loss of services, reduced quality of life, and a reduced life span.

None of these facts are lost on most American seniors. For most seniors it is one thing to take our wealth and property. It is another thing to make us a dispossessed people in our own homelands. But it is wholly unacceptable to take years off of our lives. Hence the appropriate degree of outrage and anger.

Yet those Americans who object to the expansion of this process into the USA are subjected by Liberals, by the likes of Democrat Congressman Jim Moran, an arch anti-Semite, to demands for identification. We are subjected to government investigation, to the compilation of email watch lists, to IRS audits. We are ridiculed, humiliated, and demonized, and targeted for destruction as unsuitable elements––as angry mobs, un-Americans, malcontents, Nazis, racists, ad nauseam.

The day of reckoning is coming.

14 billion dollars.

Surprised they didn't find a way to blame the lack of a COLA increase on Bush. Must've been a short deadline for the article.
