Obama To Cut .5% From $3.6T Budget!

From an awe struck Associated Press:

Obama moves to cut $17 billion from budget

By Andrew Taylor, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama challenged Congress on Thursday to approve $17 billion in additional spending cuts in the coming budget year, a sum that amounts to less than one-half of one percent of the total federal budget. Obama acknowledged "none of this will be easy" amid the continuing, deep economic slump.

Announcing 121 proposed program eliminations and curtailments, Obama said that Americans are tightening their belts in these difficult times and want to know if Washington "is prepared to act with the same sense of responsibility."

Answering criticism that his cuts were but a drop in a $3.4 trillion spending bucket, Obama said: "Some of the cuts we’re putting forward today are more painful than others. Some are larger than others. In fact a few of the programs we eliminate will produce less than a million dollars in savings. Outside of Washington, that’s still a lot of money."

"But at this moment — at this difficult time for our nation — we cannot accept business as usual," Obama added. "We cannot accept anything less than a government ready to meet the challenges of our time."

Notice that there is no mention of where these program curtailments and eliminations are coming from. (Hint: defense and national security.)

Yes, we must all buckle down and cut our spending by less than a half percent.

How does this answer the criticism? He didn’t address the question at all.

But when Mr. Obama throws trillions at his constituents in government giveaways, then it is not a lot of money. And yet millions are, in the world of Obama mathematics.

Speaking of which, also notice how our one party media keeps whittling away at the Obama budget. They are now claiming it is a $3.4 trillion dollar budget.

Lest we forget, it was originally reported as $3.6 trillion. And nothing significant has been cut. But what’s a couple hundred billion dollars to our media masters?

Never mind that outside of Washington $17 billion is still a lot of money.

Of course this is also a “drop in the bucket” and most of it’s coming from defense. I’m not saying there isn’t room to cut there but cutting up and coming weapon systems isn’t the way to go. But the two punishments won’t be in uniform and the child of Biden’s loins is in the JAG corps which is relatively safe compared to the folks out on patrol, far away fobs, are working in the special training teams. Also, many people are wise to the ways of “outside of Washington that’s a lot of money” nonsense.

Does this mean my taxes will go down by $4.72 a month?

Verily, God Obama is good to his sheep.

The key to his propaganda – led by Axelrod is ignorance and 5th grade math.

$17B seems like a lot of money to most folks, well hell it is – unless you compare it to a few trillion, but I digress. $3.6T is so large, its equivalent to telling someone how far the sun is… 99% of people cannot fathom it, therefore it doesn’t resonate – but cutting billions is the only thing dopes hear and gush over.

It also (defying basic logic) allows Bambi and the critters to repeat the meme “Bush increased our deficit” – and comparative numbers be damned.

Liebrals are very good at relying on the stupidity of their followers and the masses of asses of Americans. It is their ethos…

As always, Obama does not speak for me. I do not want a hollow gesture on Washington’s part to show that they are prepared to act with the same sense of responsibility. Obama obviously does not have the same understanding of the term “responsibility” as me.

You said it, pd. He doesn’t speak for me, either. I just saw on the Word Network when this ass-clown travelled to Yurp, he had an entourage that would rival the king of Siam. Over 500 people and 6 speechwriters and 12 teleprompters, among other things (personal chef and his own food and water, perhaps he fears a poisoning?)

He is a classic fool. In a classic setting, with the classic ignorant minions who classically hang on his every word.

Everything he says/does is hollow and meaningless yet will result in monumental problems for us all.

Applying simple math – since last years budget was 2.98 trillion dollars – cutting 17 billion dollars should make the FY2009 budget 2.96 trillion. Since the actual budget is 3.6 trillion dollars, it appears to a simpleton like myself the federal budget is actually increasing by 20%.

Of course, I could be wrong since I do not possess the “new math” skills of our esteemed community organizer.

  6. 64dodger says:

Actually he is not cutting a dime. All the so called reductions are picked up in other programs, so in reality there are no cuts whatsoever.

    Another Obama smokescreen.
