Obama To Cut Gas Prices With Higher Taxes

From the economic illiterates at the New York Times:

Obama Seeks to End Subsidies for Oil and Gas Companies

March 1, 2012

NASHUA, N.H. — With his re-election fate increasingly tied to the price Americans are paying at the gas pump, President Obama asked Congress on Thursday to end $4 billion in subsidies for oil and gas companies and vowed to tackle the country’s long-term energy issues while shunning “phony election-year promises about lower gas prices.”

As we have pointed out before, there are no oil and gas subsidies. They pay the same tax rate that every manufacturer pays when their product is depleted by producing it.

In reality, Mr. Obama is calling for a $4 billion dollar tax increase on oil and gas, which we will have to pay at the pump and in every purchase we make since everything gets transported by oil burning vehicles.

(Also, notice how all roads lead to re-electing Obama for the New York Times.)

Mr. Obama, in an appearance at Nashua Community College here, took a page out of his jobs strategy of last year, calling on Americans to contact their Congressional representatives and demand a vote on the oil subsidies in the next few weeks.

It is always more amusing when you can get the peasants themselves to beg to have their throats cut.

“You can either stand up for the oil companies, or you can stand up for the American people,” Mr. Obama said

This phraseology sounds strangely familiar. Apparently, Mr. Obama is trying to liken the oil companies to the terrorists who attacked us on 9/11. But that can’t be. He would never be so divisive.

Apparently, he has finally come up with a plan to drive down the price of gasoline: blame the producers and raise their taxes to punish them. Which, come to think of it, is how he tries to solve every problem facing the nation.

President Obama’s Jimmy Carter trap

Not since the era of roller disco, Ford Pintos and “Welcome Back, Kotter” has a Democratic president faced the political fallout of soaring gasoline prices.

On the surface, at least, President Barack Obama seems to be doing all he can to avoid following the cardigan-clad example of Jimmy Carter.

Obama hasn’t gone on television with a Mr. Rogers sweater, telling everyone to turn down their thermostats in winter. But he has gone on the populist attack — denouncing oil industry tax breaks and lampooning Republicans’ “bumper sticker” solutions while raising their ire by borrowing their “all of the above” energy mantra.

On substance, though, the two presidents’ approaches bear many similarities: Both embrace conservation — including, in Obama’s case, a drive for energy-efficient buildings and higher vehicle fuel efficiency standards. Both talk up wind and solar power. And both lean heavily on the Energy Department — an agency Carter created and on which Obama has relied to promote the green technologies that he says will bring future jobs and prosperity

The Politico’s tease for this item read: "Obama avoids Carter’s ghost on energy — Obama seems to be doing all he can to avoid following the cardigan-clad example of Jimmy Carter." But in the actual article they never come up with a single way in which the two men differ.

Mr. Obama might not be wearing a cardigan, but instead of telling us to turn down our thermostats he is telling us to go buy a $40,000 Chevy Volt. And, unlike Carter, Obama is trying to raise the price of gas even further by increasing the taxes on it.

Is that supposed to be an improvement?

    Well good.

Now I can get plenty of exercise walking the five miles down to the main road where I can hitch a ride on a mule drawn wagon into town so I can pay my taxes.

    Back to the future, folks.

I heard little Barry talking about this yesterday. “… They (big oil) make money every time you fill up your tank.” Mindless oblivious applause and cheering. “Do you want to give them another $4B”. Mindless oblivious cheering and yelling “No!”.

Interestingly Obama never mentions that the government makes more per gallon on gasoline than the oil companies themselves :

Let’s correct Barry for accuracy. “They (big government) make money every time you fill up your tank.” Mindless applause. Do you want to give them another $4B?” “NO! Stop the government theft”. Let the oil companies keep their money. They searched. They found. They drilled. They refined. They transported. They store and sell to you. (Think of all the jobs within that process) Then the government walks in, stands between you and the pump and says “Pay us first… then you can pay evil big oil… then you can have your gas. Now who deserves to make more for the gas in your car, “evil” big oil, or the government?

The spin of “subsidies” to big oil is simply another lie. How would you feel if the government did this to you in your business? Oh, never mind. It’s already in the works. If you haven’t felt it already… soon sparky. Soon…

He doesn’t have avoid the Carter comparison trap. He skirted past that checkpoint some time ago in one of his little tax payer subsidized putt-putt mobiles.

Obama doesn’t stop there. He’s said he will tax auto owners of those big SUV’s and Pickups.

I love the photo Steve picked for this spot. Obama staring at a motor. Not only is is very reminiscent of the deceased leader of NorK’s “Looking at things”, it’s a graphic representation that Captain Socialism has no idea what he’s looking at, how it works or the basic principles involved in the reciprocating gasoline or diesel engine. And, that the “car guys” who are talking to him are probably infinitely more intelligent than him and could take that truck apart and put it back together blindfolded while he was still trying to figure out what a socket wrench is.

His removal from day-to-day tasks was complete by age seven. His mommy probably dressed him well into his teens and the male influences in his life never once got their hands dirty with hard, challenging work.

Whenever I see this clown I want to be sick.
