Obama To Issue ‘Mythbuster Challenge’

Obama to issue mythbuster challenge at White House Science Fair

By: CNN Wire Staff

WASHINGTON (CNN) – President Barack Obama has a myth that may need busting.

Obama will announce Monday that he has a walk-on role on Discovery Channel’s "Mythbusters" program in December to challenge the ancient myth that Greek scientist Archimedes set fire to an invading Roman fleet using sunlight reflected by mirrors.

The announcement will come during a White House Science Fair to celebrate the winners of competitions across the country involving science, technology, engineering and math projects…

We seem to recall the Mythbusters people doing a program on the ‘Archimedes death ray’ back in January 2006. Oh, well.

In any case, Mr. Obama is an odd choice for myth busting. His ‘reality check’ website, Fight The Smears, perpetuated and continues to perpetuate several myths and lies, including this one:

Indeed, this lie was the first charge ever posted on Mr. Obama’s "Fight The Smears" website. It has subsequently been artfully re-worded to read as follows:

The Truth About a Non-Existent Michelle Tape

On May 30th, Rush Limbaugh gave specific details about a video tape supposedly showing Michelle Obama using a tasteless racial slur, something an accomplished professional and loving mother like Michelle would never say. Proven sleazemeister Roger Stone went on Fox News two days later to make a similar claim.

What did Michelle actually say on that video? Nothing — there is no video. The entire thing was completely fabricated by people like Limbaugh and Stone who want to take Michelle and Barack down. In fact, neither Michelle nor Barack has ever said anything remotely like the stuff Limbaugh, Stone, and the rest made up for their fantasy tape.

This is the worst, most hateful kind of smear there is. Make sure your friends and family know who is behind it.

Mind you, this is still up on that site.

Here is the transcription of Rush Limbaugh’s May 30, 2008 comments on the subject, via his website:

Rumor: A Michelle Obama Video

May 30, 2008

And, of course, there are these rumors circulating, and I don’t know if this is true, but there are a number of people suggesting — and I first heard this, by the way, when I was gone Monday and Tuesday of last week — that there’s a video and that the Republican Party supposedly has it now of Michelle Obama speaking from the pulpit in this church talking about "whitey."  I don’t care if it’s unacceptable, Snerdley. I’m just reporting what’s out there.  I’m reporting on a rumor that is out there.  No, I cannot mention… (interruption)

Okay, forget I said "Michelle (My Belle) Obama." I’ll just say "his wife."  Obama’s wife is out there. There’s a rumor that there’s a tape — the Republicans have it, and we’re waiting to use it in October — of Michelle going nuts in the church, too, talking about whitey this and whitey that…

As we have noted often before, this "whitey tape’ rumor came from none other than Larry Johnson. The same bravo who invented and promoted the ‘birther’ controversy.

Lest we forget, Mr. Johnson is a Democrat and erstwhile Democrat spokesman. And yet to this day Mr. Obama is still trying to claim that Mr. Limbaugh was behind this "smear."

Of course Mr. Obama and the truth have always been strangers.

I can’t wait till Obie does a guest spot on on a show that is totally unexpected. Like a news program. Or a press conference where the press actually participates? Or maybe an address to the people where he actually speaks the truth. I know, that would be silly.

So I have to ask – why is Mythbusters sinking to redo a myth and include this ‘Cult of Personality’ President? And isn’t this a real sign of how vapid and shallow that The Won really is – could he not use the abundance of czars he has to come up with a new myth to present? Is Mythbusters really attempting to destroy their ratings or do they stupidly think it will up them – can’t they read polls at all – even Dems are running away from The Won in record numbers and by Dec – the death gripe will be complete. Is there no show what-so-ever that Obama won’t go on? [Yeah I know – Fox is taboo and any of the religious channels are to be avoided at all costs too] Well at least I’m reading again – since I have deleted so many damn channels from our guide – that it is almost (except for Center Ice) not worth paying for cable any more. Between The Won and the green enviro wacko bs – I don’t watch much tv anymore.

As for Hillary Clinton?!!!! I found these gems:

Yeah, the one about Ghandi running a gas station was a riot. Who’s wrote that one for you? Paula Poundstone?

RB, my fav was when she said that’ “Chelsey and herself had to run for cover after a harrowing spiral descent on the plane they were riding, because a sniper was dinging at them.”

  6. BannedbytheTaliban says:

Obama has busted many myths already:

    1. That government spending can stimulate the economy.
    2. That government can create private sector jobs.
    3. That a person skin color and gender does not matter when applying for a job, especially to SCOTUS.
    4. A bunch of academics who never had a real job can get stuff done.
    5. That the laws of this nation apply to everybody.
    6. That we have an effective checks and balances system.

That should be enough for at least two whole shows.
